2002
From Scratchpad
2002 was a turning point in the festival's history. The headliners this year were The Strokes, Foo Fighters and The Prodigy, co-headlined by Pulp, Muse and The Offspring. The year was made famous by the riots at Leeds, which resulted in the moving of the site to Bramham Park. Other major events included the comeback of Guns N' Roses and Muse playing what some dispute to be the best festival appearence ever. Notably, the logo changed from the yellow text on red background to yellow text on black background, with a red outline.
[edit] Notable Events
- Guns N' Roses played, but Leeds only. There is speculation as to why this was. Some believe it was because they wanted to popularize Leeds, others say it was because Axl Rose had some engagements. It has even been said that they didn't play Reading because Axl Rose wanted to fly directly into Reading, where there isn't an airport! (Nearest Airport is Heathrow, on the outskirts of London).
- 2002 saw the final year that the Leeds Festival was held at Temple Newsam, due to the infamous rioting that marred the final night. Ever since 2003, the festival has been held at Bramham Park.
