From Scratchpad
The Carling Weekend 2004 happened between the 27th and 29th of August, once again on the August Bank Holiday Weekend. The headliners were The Darkness, The White Stripes and Green Day, and the co-headliners were The Offspring, Morrissey and 50 Cent. The line-up was criticised as one of the weaker ones, and loyal festival-goers felt disillusioned that acts such as The Darkness and 50 Cent were placed so high up. However, the year saw Green Day's comeback, promoting their American Idiot album, although their set was mainly comprised of greatest hits. The White Stripes also headlined, after pulling out last year due to Jack White fracturing his finger in a car accident.

- 50 Cent was infamously bottled off stage after 25 minutes into his Reading set, becoming one of the most famous incidents to occur at the festival. When he first came on stage at Leeds, he suffered the inogimy there as well, although he eventually on the crowd over. Earlier in the day at Reading, The Rasmus received rubbish being thrown at them as well, and after a bottle hit their bassist in the eye they chose to evacuate the stage. The Streets almost got bottled off too, arguably due to the growing disdain towards Chav culture, though Mike Skinner won the crowd over in an emotional singalong to their hit single Dry Your Eyes.
- Super Furry Animals headlined the Radio 1 Stage on the Friday at Reading, with Graham Coxon below them on the bill. At Leeds the following day, Graham Coxon headlined, with Super Furry Animals below him.
- New Found Glory pulled out.
- The Smirnoff Dance Arena was simply renamed the Dance Arena.
