[edit] 2007 Taney Tourney Cup
We should set high but realistic targets, and have a backup plan in case nothing works out. For instance, I want to give everyone at the event a commemorative piece, and something special for the winning team. But if we can't find a sponsor or enough funding, we should just have a victory party at a bar and split the cost of a small buffet among partygoers, with the winners getting a discount or free admission. The goal is to be revenue-neutral. I'd rather not to spend any pickup money on this.
[edit] Time & Location
Sunday, June 24th - Same place and starting time as regular pickup.
[edit] Agenda
6:45 pm - Sign-in begins no later than this
7 - All players must have arrived on the field. Late stragglers will not be guaranteed a playing spot.
7:15 - Kickoff of first game.
8:45 - Final whistle of final game.
[edit] Expected turnout
20-40, but consider that some may leave before the end.
[edit] Tournament Format
Players are randomly placed into teams. Everyone should wear white and one team puts on blue pinnies.
Option 1: Round-robin, "league" format. More suitable for small number of teams (3-4). 3 points for a win, 1 for draw, 0 for loss.
Option 2: Single-round knock-outs. Losing teams should be given games, too, eg. a third-place play-off with four teams. But what if there are more?
Fouls should be tracked and the top two "fair play" teams earn 1-2 extra points. (can't do this w/ KO format)
[edit] Rules
No slide-tackling. No substitutions (except for injuries). Depending on turnout, 15-20 minutes per game. 1/2 to 3/4 field, with small goals, no goalie.
[edit] Prizes
Everyone should get a commemorative piece if possible (like what?). Winners receive free "tickets" to the victory party, maybe at a bar.
How do we pay for all that? Sponsors. A local bar, pizza place, or shop may be willing to sponsor the tournament. We can try to put their name on every commemorative piece, or at least on the website, or have a handout at the game. A sponsor that is a bar/restaurant could also be the place where we will have the victory party.
It will be a lot of work so someone needs to take on marketing asap. They'll deserve a prize just for this.
