2014 Atlantic hurricane season was a very active hurricane season with 17 named storms, 9 hurricanes and 5 major hurricanes. The strongest and most noticeable storm of the season was Hurricane Gonzales which had maximum sustained winds of 180 miles per hour (891 mb) which did catastrophic damage, nearly a billion USD dollars in damage to the South/North Carolina coastline where it made landfall as a category 4 storm but significant damage spread as far South as Florida and as far North as Delaware. Another storm of note was late-season Tropical Storm Rene which, although just a tropical storm, was a very slow mover and caused numerous mudslides to Belize, Mexico and Nicaragua spawned by torrential steady downpours and was blamed for 31 deaths and $38,000,000 USD dollars in damage.
