War to us had arrived that any summer any of them could remember. And the little engines did their best to make sure everyone caught their train and was happy. But not everyone was having.
  • Duncan: Oh great, another goods train! Why can't have I pulled passengers and enjoyed of my fun?
  • Duncan's Driver: It's your turn. Every summer one of the engine's help with the repair worker on the line. This year, it's your turn.
  • Duncan: Ohh, a lucky me.
  • Duncan's Driver: Just be lucky that there is enough work that Rusty is helping you, or you really have a resine to complane.
  • Narrator: Duncan liked Rusty, but in the mode he was in, he didn't like anyone who didn't do his work for him. That evening, the Narrow Gauge Controller, Mr. Percival call the engines in the shed to adreset them about the rail.
  • Mr. Pecival: I owe know you have been working very hard and I'm pleased with all of you. But do to the hard winter, there has been more floody than expected. And that is caused more damaged to the line than expected. Because of this, Sir Handel and Peter Sam will be moved to the repair work.
  • Peter Sam: But sir, what about the passengers?
  • Mr. Percival: That is already been taking care of you. Another engine will be brought to the railway to help with the passengers.
  • Skarloey Engines: A new engine? What's he like?
  • Mr. Pecival: Wait and see. Edward will be delivering him tomorrow on his good trains. Now get some rest, you'll all have a busy day tomarrow.
  • Narrator: But try as they might, they were too excidit to sleep and taled about the new engine late until night. The next day, Edward picked up the new engine.
  • Edward: Hurry please, this engine is needed.
  • Workmen: Right away.
  • Narrator: As soon as the workmen had the new engine secuered and his flatbed coupled, Edward pulled away.
  • Edward: I hope you like working the other engines, they really need your help. This summer is busy for everyone.
  • Smudger: What's that?
  • Edward: Oh, we'll be there very soon, I just need to drop up this train for Thomas.
  • Narrator: Thomas was busy shunting in Welsworth Yard. He has now to take a rest when Edward pulled in.
  • Edward: Hello, Thomas, looks like you got the cars in line. Could you please hurry and take care of my train so I can get the new engine to delivered?
  • Thomas: No problem.
  • Narrator: And he puffed away to take care of Edward's train. To following Thomas's leave, Edward puffed away to deliverd the new engine.
  • Edward: Well, now we're on our way. It's a bit of a trip, but it's a lovely contry. You'll see a lot of beautiful sights on the line, you'll be working on.
  • Smudger: I just hope you keep out of your work.
  • Narrator: And they headed towards Gordon's Hill. The little engines had together at the sheds to meet the new engine. James had pushed the breakedown train in to unload the new engine and they were now waiting for Edward to arrived. To everyone waiting as seem like forever but Edward finaily arrived. The new engine was Smudger, the engine that Duke had work with before Smudger was turning into a generator. He was unloaded and rolled up by Peter Sam and Sir Handel.
  • Smudger: Hello, I'm Smudger.
  • Peter Sam: Smudger? Did you else work with Duke?
  • Smudger: Yes I did. And if I would have listen to him, I never would have made into a generator.
  • Duncan: A generator?! What did you do of that happend to you?
  • Smudger: I rolled to rough and came off the rails too much. The manager told me he finaily made me useful. And the next thing I knew, I was a generator.
  • Rheneas: See, Duncan? You really can be cut down desizes if you keep riding rough.
  • Duncan: That's not funny!
  • Smudger: You're both right, you can be cut down desizes if you don't behave and it's not funny. I had a lot of time to think when I was a generator, and now I know better than to acted like I did in the past.
  • Sir Handel: But you're an engine again! How that had happend?
  • Smudger: When the people came to the Mid Sodor, some other people came and bought me. They cut me as a generator untill they relise they could make more money buy turning me back into an engine and renting me out of selling me. They finally got me fixed up and Mr. Percival needed an engine, so here I am. So, where's Duke?
  • Rusty: He had away train. He should be here soon. Here he is now.
  • Duke: What are you doing here?! Last time I saw you, you are a generator! And you shouldn't stay in that way!
  • Smudger: I'm a sprit engine. And I know I made mistakes in the past. But I'm a diffrent engine now and I...
  • Duke: I don't want to hear it! Just stay out of my way and do your work! Goodbye!
  • Narrator: And with that, Duke puffed away. The next day, Smudger was getting ready to pick up his train. Rusty was also at the sheds. He was waiting for some workmen to be droped off so he can take them to a damage part of the line. Just then, Diesel had arrived. He had brought the workman.
  • Rusty: What are you doing here?
  • Diesel: Delivering these workmen, so you can repaier the line.
  • Narrator: Diesel looked over at Smudger.
  • Diesel: Who is that?
  • Rusty: That's Smudger. He's the sprit engine brought in to help the summer.
  • Diesel: Oh great, as just when this place leaves, another steam engine.
  • Rusty: And what's wrong with steam engines?
  • Diesel: What is it wrong with them? They're slow all and out of the date. Soon they'll all be scraped and we diesels will be running on everything. Now I must be off, I have a important work to do. And if I was you, I wouldn't get it anymore, chummy with the steam engines. It was make it hard on you when they're scraped. Ta-ta!
  • Narrator: Smudger, who heard of everying Diesel had said was now very sad and worried.
  • Smudger: Is what he said true?
  • Rusty: What Diesel said? Of corse not. Nothing Diesel says it's true, no one hears listens to him. It'll be you're in best intrest to do this same. Well, it looks like the workmen are ready, I must be going now. Goodbye.
  • Narrator: Just as Rusty left, Duke arrived at the shed.
  • Duke: What are you still doing here?! Don't you have a train to catch?!
  • Smudger: I do. I was just leaving now.
  • Narrator: Smudger who said nothing and replied puffed sadly away. Smudger had collect his coaches and was waiting at the station when Emily arrived.
  • Emily: Hello, you're new here, aren't you?
  • Smudger: Yes I am. My name is Smudger. I'm the sprit engine brought here to help over the summer. You're beautiful, aren't you?
  • Emily: I sure am. It's nice to meet you, Smudger. I'm Emily. I hope you're enjoying your time here.
  • Smudger: I am very much.
  • Emily: Sorry I can't stay in ched, but I must be off. Goodbye.
  • Narrator: Shortly after, the conductor's whistle for Smudger blew, and Smudger was off for his first run of the line. Smudger enjoyed his run. The people were all very kind and friendly and he thought the senrey was lovely. When Smudger had finished his jouney, he returned to the shed for rest before his next train. He notised Duck is shunting.
  • Duck: Hello. My name is Duck, and I am a Great Westren. What's your name and did you enjoy your run?
  • Smudger: My name is Smudger and yes I did. It's such a lovely place here, but it's always nice to have a rest. How about you wish one you could have one? You've seen very busy.
  • Duck: I am. I've been shunting, and now, I'm getting the train ready for Diesel to take to the other railway.
  • Smudger: Ohh, him. I don't like him.
  • Duck: Me ether. When he first came here, he caused me all kinds of problems.
  • Smudger: I overheard him telling Rusty that all steam engines will be scrapped and replace with diesels.
  • Duck: He's been saying that since he survied. At first we believed him. When after constently the improved wrong, we just start leaving him and started laughing at him. And speaking him. I better get this train when he get find them and get to my other jobs. Goodbye.
  • Smudger's Driver: Alright, time to get our next train.
  • Narrator: Shortly after, Diesel arrived to collect his train. He found the train hard to move. The cars enjoyed played tricks on him. At last, he finally got his train moving, and he left the yard. Later that day, Duke pulled in to the yard after the long journay. He notised Smudger in the shed. He was oringenly mad at him for his behaver on their old line. But the fact and he was turned him back into an engine made Duke see look furious. He didn't want to see him let alone a share of the shed with him. So he disided to rest and watched the cars. Meanwhile, Diesel was still having trouble with his train. The cars just don't want to go. Diesel pulled and pulled with every ounce of stright he had something had something had to give. And it did, the coupling snapped and Diesel shot foward. Diesel was cross. Diesel reversed quickly slammed into his train. The impacet was so great that the cars stared rolled towards the yard. Duke who was resting was unawhere in the runaway train. Suddenly, a warning alarm sounded and started Duke awake just in time to see the cars racing into the yard! The cars slamed into the fuel takers causing the explotion and the fire onto the shed! Duke's driver had home for rest leaving Duke stranded.
  • Duke: Help! Help! Please, someone, help!
  • Narrator: Smudger would also been start at the week, pulled out of the shed. He can now hear Duke calling for help but without thinking twise, Smudger raced off to save him, and carfully bach down to Duke was coupled up and pulling as hard as he could. Finally, brought Duke to safety. Later that night, all the engines had return to shed. The fire had been put out but not before the damge. Murdoch had brought the breakedown train in and help to clean up the mess. Cruse walkin' over to Duke to make sure he was alright.
  • Duke: Thank you for saving me. But why did you do it after I was so mean to you?
  • Smudger: Like I told you, all that time as a generator gave me time to think. I'm a diffrent engine now. Plus, it was right thing to do.
  • Duke: I guess I got my sentence in my ways. You really are a diffrent engine then a Smudger I knew years ago. Can you forgive an old folish engine?
  • Smudger: Of coruse I can.
  • Narrator: Just then, Mr. Percival arrived. He spook with the engines.
  • Mr. Percival: How are you feeling, Duke?
  • Duke: Fine, sir, a little shake enough, but fine other in that.
  • Mr. Percival: Very good, and I hear that you're a hero, Smudger. If you would like, I would like put you to be come up a perament member of my railway. Would you like too?
  • Smudger: Yes please, sir, thank you!
  • Mr. Percival: Very good. Here you shall stay, I will make the aremangesment.
  • Skarloey Engines: Horray! Horray!
  • Narrator: As soon as they stopped whistle, Mr. Percival begin speaking to them.
  • Mr. Percival: Now all of this left to do beside you repaired the building is to find out who is respdispsephove for this fire.
  • Narrator: Just then, Duck and Percy arrived with Diesel.
  • Mr. Percival: What's going on here?
  • Duck: We found Diesel stucking the line, sir, we also find out that was Diesel slamming into his train cause into rolled back into the yard that cause the fire.
  • Mr. Percival: So, it was you! You've caused problems no matter what you do! I don't know what to do with you!
  • Smudger: Excuse me, sir, I know the last time I had to deal with an engine like that. What faced him was turning him into a generator.
  • Narrator: Diesel was horrfied at this idea.
  • Mr. Percival: A generator, eh? That's an inturesting idea, but knowing Diesel as an engine, he propble be just as much trouble as a generator. Take him away until I can deside what to do with him.
  • Duck and Percy: Yes, sir!
  • Narrator: And they puffed away. Duke and Smudger are now good friends. The shed was rebult with a plack that read, "In Honor of Smudger" for his braver.
