  • George Carlin: Trevor the Traction Engine enjoys living in the Vicarage Orchard. Edward came to see him every day, but sometimes Trevor didn't have enough work to do.
  • Trevor: I do like to keep busy all the time.
  • George Carlin: He sighed one day.
  • Trevor: And I do like company. Especially, children's company.
  • Edward: Cheer up.
  • George Carlin: Smiled Edward.
  • Edward: Sir Topham Hatt has worked for you at his new harbor. I'm to take you to meet Thomas today.
  • Trevor: Oh.
  • George Carlin: Exclaimed Trevor happily.
  • Trevor: The harbor, the seaside, children. That would be lovely.
  • George Carlin: Thomas was on his way to the harbour with a trainload of metal pilings. They were needed to make the harbour wharf firm and safe.
  • Edward: Hello, Thomas.
  • George Carlin: Said Edward.
  • Edward: This is Trevor a friend of mine. He's a traction engine.
  • George Carlin: Thomas eyed the newcomer doubtfully.
  • Thomas: A what engine?
  • Trevor: A traction engine.
  • George Carlin: Explained Trevor.
  • Trevor: I run on roads instead of rails. Can you take me to the harbour, please? Sir Topham Hatt has a job for me.
  • Thomas: Yes, of course.
  • George Carlin: Replied Thomas. But he was still puzzled. Workmen coupled Trevor's car to Thomas' train and soon they were ready to start their journey.
  • Trevor: I'm glad Sir Topham Hatt needs me.
  • George Carlin: Called Trevor.
  • Trevor: I don't have enough to do sometime you know. Although I can work anywhere. In orchards, on farms, in scrapyards even at harbours.
  • Thomas: But you don't run on rails.
  • George Carlin: Puffed Thomas.
  • Trevor: I'm a traction engine. I don't need rails to be useful.
  • George Carlin: Replied Trevor.
  • Trevor: You wait and see.
  • George Carlin: When they reached the harbour, they found everything in confusion. Cars had been derailed, blocking the line and stone slabs lay everywhere.
  • Driver: We must get this pilings past.
  • George Carlin: Said Thomas' Driver.
  • Driver: They are escential. Trevor, we need you to drag them round this mess.
  • Trevor: Just the sort of job i like.
  • George Carlin: Replied Trevor.
  • Trevor: Now you'll see, Thomas. I'll soon show you what traction engines can do.
  • George Carlin: Trevor was as good as his work. He dragged the pilings clear with chains and towed them into position.
  • Trevor: Who needs rails?
  • George Carlin: He muttered cheerfully to himself. Later, Thomas brought Annie and Clarabel to visit him. Thomas was most impressed.
  • Thomas: Now I understand how useful a traction engine can be.
  • George Carlin: The coaches were full of children. Trevor gave them rides to all the harbour. He liked this best of all.
  • Annie: He's very kind.
  • George Carlin: Said Annie.
  • Clarabel: He reminds me of Thomas.
  • George Carlin: Added Clarabel. Everyone was sorry when it was time for Trevor to go. Thomas pulled him to the junction. A small tear came into Trevor's eye. Thomas pretended not to see. He whistled gaily to make Trevor happy.
  • Thomas: I'll come and see you if I can.
  • George Carlin: He promised.
  • Thomas: The Vicar will look after you and there's plenty of work for you now at the orchard. But we may meet you again at the harbour someday.
  • Trevor: That would be wonderful.
  • George Carlin: Said Trevor. That evening, Trevor stood remembering his new friend Thomas, the harbour, and most of all, the children. Then he went happily to sleep in the shed at the bottom of the orchard.
  • (A nameplate sequence occurs and we begin The Runaway)
  • George Carlin: Thomas the Tank Engine was ill. Workmen had been trying to make him better, but it was no use.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Edward must take you to the works.
  • George Carlin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • (Edward's whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: Thomas felt very miserable. Then, Sir Topham Hatt spoke to Duck.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I want you to help Percy and Toby while Thomas is away.
  • George Carlin: Duck was delighted. He already knew Percy and soon made friends with Toby and Bertie. Terence the Tractor gave him a big welcome too.
  • Terence: Take care of Thomas' coaches.
  • George Carlin: He advised.
  • Terence: He's sure to miss them while he's away.
  • (Duck's whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: Duck was very gentle with the coaches. Annie and Clarabel were impressed.
  • Annie and Clarabel: Such nice manners.
  • George Carlin: They told each other.
  • Annie and Clarabel: It really is a pleasure to go out with him.
  • (Duck's whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: When Thomas came back, Annie and Clarabel told him how well duck had managed. Thomas was so pleased to be home that he soon forgot to be jealous.
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: The works have left Thomas' handbrake very stiff. It made his brakes seen they were on, when in fact they were not. As a result, he and his coaches often overran the platform. Thomas found this most embarrasing. Gradually, his driver and fireman learned to be extra careful. But one day, Thomas' fireman was ill and a relief man took his place.
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: The fireman had fastened the coupling and joined the driver and stationmaster on the platform to wait for Henry's passengers. The fireman had forgot all about Thomas' handbrake. Thomas simmered happily.
  • Thomas: Not long now.
  • George Carlin: He tought. As he saw Henry slowly approaching. But Thomas' brakes were not on and suddenly he felt his wheels begin to move. He tried to stop, but he couldn't without his driver and fireman. He tried to whistle a warning, but he couldn't do that either. The Conductor, driver, fireman and passengers were all stranded on the platform.
  • Annie and Clarabel: Stop! Stop!
  • George Carlin: Shrieked Annie and Clarabel. But Thomas, with plenty of steam, kept on going. The alarm went down the line.
  • Signalman: Stop the runaway!
  • George Carlin: There ready for action was Harold the Helicopter. The inspector had made a plan and together they took off into the sky. At last Thomas was tiring.
  • Thomas: I need to stop, i need to stop.
  • George Carlin: He panted weirdly. As they neared the next station Thomas saw Harold land. They entered the platform slowly enough for the inspector to act. Judging his moments the inspector scrambled into the cab and screwed the brakes on.
  • (The inspector brakes with all his strength)
  • George Carlin: At last Thomas stopped. Both he and the inspector were very relieved. Then they thanked Harold.
  • Harold: Think nothing of it. Glad to be at service anytime.
  • Inspector: Thomas.
  • George Carlin: Remarked The inspector.
  • Inspector: You must never let this happen again.
  • George Carlin: Weirdly, Thomas agreed with him.
  • (A nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Wrong Road)
  • George Carlin: Thomas' branch line is important and so is Edward. But their tracks and bridges are not so strong as those on the main line. Sir Topham Hatt does not allow the heavier main line engines like Gordon to run on them. But one day, the way Gordon was talking, he would have tought Sir Topham Hatt had given this order for quite another reason.
  • Gordon: It's not fair!
  • George Carlin: Grumbled Gordon.
  • Edward: What isn't fair?
  • George Carlin: Asked Edward.
  • Gordon: Letting branch line diesels pull main line trains.
  • Edward: Never mind, Gordon. I'm sure BoCo will let you pull his freight cars sometimes.
  • George Carlin: Gordon spluttered.
  • Gordon: I wont pull BoCo's dirty cars. I wont run on branch lines.
  • Edward: Why not it will be a nice change.
  • Gordon: Sir Topham Hatt would never approve.
  • George Carlin: Huffed Gordon.
  • Gordon: Branch lines are vulgar.
  • George Carlin: Gordon puffed away. Edward chuckled and followed him to the station. Every evening the two engines pulled two fast trains from the station. Gordon always leaves first with an express for the main line. Edward follows five minutes later with his train for the branch line. Usually everything runs like clockwork. But tonight there was trouble. A Lady in a green floppy hat was saying goodbye to a friend. It was nearly time for Gordon to start. The fireman looked back towards the conductor's van and saw something green waving.
  • Gordon's Fireman: Right away, mate!
  • George Carlin: He thought the conductor had waved his flag. Gordon started. Leaving luggage, his passengers and the conductor all standing on the platform. Everyone was very surprised and cross. To make matters worse, by the time Gordon had been stopped and brought back, Edward was already late with his train.
  • (Edward's whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: So now, he set off first. But the signalman at the junction wasn't told about the change. By mistake, he sent Edward along the main line. Gordon was sent along the branch and arrived cold and cross on one of the sidings near the harbour. Next morning, Bill and Ben peeped into the yard. There were no cars for them but they didn't mind that. Teasing Gordon will be much better fun.
  • Bill: What's that?
  • George Carlin: Asked Bill?
  • Ben: Sheesh!
  • George Carlin: Whispered Ben.
  • Ben: It's Gordon.
  • Bill: It looks like Gordon but it can't be. Gordon never comes on the branch lines. He thinks they're vulgar.
  • George Carlin: Gordon pretended he hadn't heard.
  • Ben: If it isn't Gordon.
  • George Carlin: Said Ben.
  • Ben: It's just a pile of Old Iron.
  • Bill: Which we better take it to the scrapyard.
  • Ben: No Bill, this blocks used for scrap we'll take it to the harbour and dump it in the sea.
  • (Gordon's Whistle toots)
  • George Carlin: Gordon was alarmed.
  • Gordon: I am Gordon. Stop, stop!
  • George Carlin: When BoCo suddenly arrived, Gordon thought him the most beautiful sight he had ever been.
  • Gordon: BoCo, my dear engine, save me.
  • George Carlin: BoCo quickly sized up the situation and threathened to take away the cars he brought for Bill and Ben. This made the twin behave at once. Gordon tought BoCo was wonderful.
  • Gordon: Those little demons. How do you do it?
  • BoCo: Ah well.
  • George Carlin: Said BoCo.
  • BoCo: It's just a knack.
  • George Carlin: Gordon still believed that BoCo saved his life. But he knows the twins were only teasing. Don't we?
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Gordon and The Famous Visitor)
  • George Carlin: It was an important day in the yard. Everyone was excited, making notes and taking photographs. A special visitor had arrived, and was now the center of attention.
  • Thomas: Who's that?
  • George Carlin: Whispered Thomas to Duck.
  • Duck: That...
  • George Carlin: Said Duck proudly.
  • Duck: ...is a celebrity.
  • Percy: A what?
  • George Carlin: Asked Percy.
  • Duck: A celebrity is a very famous engine.
  • George Carlin: Replied Duck.
  • Duck: Driver says we can talk to him soon.
  • Thomas: Oh.
  • George Carlin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: He's probably too famous to even notice us.
  • George Carlin: Just then, Gordon arrived.
  • Gordon: Pah!
  • George Carlin: Said Gordon.
  • Gordon: Who cares? A lot of fuss about nothing, if you ask me.
  • George Carlin: And he steamed away. Later that night, the engines found that the visitor wasn't concieted at all. He enjoyed talking the engines, till' long after the stars came out. He left early next morning. Gordon was still complaining.
  • Gordon: Good riddance.
  • George Carlin: He grumbled.
  • Gordon: Chattering all night. Who is he, anyway?
  • Thomas: Duck told you.
  • George Carlin: Replied Thomas.
  • Thomas: He's famous.
  • Gordon: As famous as me? Nonsense.
  • Thomas: He's famouser than you. He went 100 miles an hour before you were thought of.
  • Gordon: Huh. So he says.
  • George Carlin: Huffed Gordon.
  • Gordon: But I didn't like his looks. He's got no armor. Never trust domeless engines. They're not respectable. I never boast, but I'd say that 100 miles an hour would be easy for me. Goodbye.
  • George Carlin: Duck took some freight cars to Edward's station.
  • Edward: Hello.
  • George Carlin: Called Edward.
  • Edward: That famous engine came through this morning. He whistled to me. Wasn't he kind?
  • Duck: He's the finest engine in the world.
  • George Carlin: Replied Duck, then he told Edward what Gordon had said.
  • Edward: Take no notice.
  • George Carlin: Soothed Edward.
  • Edward: He's just jealous. He thinks no engine should be famous but him. Look, he's coming now.
  • George Carlin: Gordon was running very fast. His wheels pounded the rails.
  • Gordon: He did it, I'll do it. He did it, I'll do it!
  • George Carlin: Gordon's train rocketed past, and was gone.
  • Duck: He'll knock himself to bits!
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Duck. Gordon's driver eased him off.
  • Gordon's Driver: Steady, Gordon. We aren't running a race.
  • Gordon: We are, then.
  • George Carlin: Said Gordon, but he said it to himself. Suddenly, Gordon began to feel a little strange.
  • Gordon: The top of my boiler seems funny.
  • George Carlin: He thought.
  • Gordon: It feels as if something is loose! I'd better go slower.
  • George Carlin: But it was too late. On the viaduct, they met the wind. It was a teasing wind that blew suddenly at hard puffs. Gordon thought it wanted to push him off the bridge.
  • Gordon: No, you don't!
  • George Carlin: He said firmly. But the wind had other ideas. It curled round his boiler, crept under his loose dome, and lifted off and away into the valley below.
  • (The dome falls into the water)
  • George Carlin: Gordon was most uncomfortable. The cold wind was whistling through his hole where his dome should be and he felt silly without it. At the big station, the Freight Cars laughed at him.
  • (Freight Cars laugh)
  • George Carlin: Gordon tried to wheesh them away.
  • (Freight Cars continue laughing)
  • George Carlin: But they crowded round', no matter what he did. On the way back home, he wanted his driver to stop and fetch his dome.
  • Gordon's Driver: We'll never find it now.
  • George Carlin: Said his driver.
  • Gordon's Driver: You'll have to go to the works for a new one.
  • George Carlin: Gordon was very cross.
  • Gordon: I hope the shed is empty tonight.
  • George Carlin: He huffed to himself. But all the engines were there waiting.
  • A Voice: Never trust domeless engines.
  • George Carlin: Said a voice from somewhere behind him.
  • A Voice: They aren't respectable.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Percy Runs Away)
  • George Carlin: Henry, James and Gordon were miserable. They had been shut up for several days for being naughty, and long to be let out again. At last, Sir Topham Hatt arrived.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I hope you are sorry.
  • George Carlin: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: And that you understand that every job on the railway is important. We have a new tank engine called Percy who helps pull coaches and Thomas and Edward had worked the main line nicely, but I will let you now if you promise to work hard.
  • Gordon: Yes sir.
  • George Carlin: Said the three engines.
  • James: We will.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: That's good, but please remember that this no shunting nonsense must stop.
  • George Carlin: Sir Topham Hatt then told Percy, Edward and Thomas that they can go and play on a branch line for a few days, and they ran off happily to find Annie and Clarabel at the junction. The two coaches were very pleased to see Thomas again. Edward and Percy played with the freight cars.
  • Cars: Stop, stop, stop!
  • George Carlin: Screamed the cars as they pushed them to their proper sidings. But the two engines laughed and went on shunting till the cars were tightling arranged. Next, Edward took some empty cars from the quarry. Percy was left alone. He didn't mind that a bit. He like watching trains and being cheeky to the other engines.
  • Percy: Hurry, hurry, hurry!
  • George Carlin: He would call, and they got very cross. After a great deal of shunting, Percy was waiting for the signalman to set the switch so that he can go back to the yard. Percy was being rather careless and not paying attention. Edward had warned Percy.
  • Edward: Be careful on the main line. Whistle to the signalman that you are there.
  • George Carlin: But Percy didn't remember to whistle, and so the busy signalman forgot him. Percy waited and waited. The switch were still against him so he couldn't move. Then, he looked along the main line.
  • Percy: Peep, peep!
  • George Carlin: He whistled in horror, for rushing straight towards him was Gordon with the express.
  • Gordon: Oh!
  • George Carlin: Groaned Gordon.
  • Gordon: Get out of my way!
  • (Gordon approaches Percy, who then shuts his eyes and the big engine comes to a frightening halt)
  • George Carlin: Percy opened his eyes. Gordon had stopped with Percy's buffers just a few inches from his own. But Percy had began to move.
  • Percy: I won't stay here, I'll run away!
  • George Carlin: He puffed. He ran straight through Edward's station, and was so frighetend that he ran right up Gordon's hill without stopping. After that, he was tired, but he couldn't stop. He had no driver to shut off steam and applied his brakes.
  • Percy: I want to stop! I want to stop!
  • George Carlin: He puffed. The man in the signalbox saw Percy was in trouble, so he kindly set the switch. Percy puffed wearly onto a nice empty siding, ending in a big bank of earth. He was too tired now to care where he went.
  • Percy: I want to stop, I want to stop! I have stopped!
  • George Carlin: He puffed thankfully.
  • Workmen: Never mind, Percy.
  • George Carlin: Said the workmen as they dug him out.
  • Workmen: You shall have some drink and some coal and then you feel better.
  • George Carlin: Presently, Gordon arrived.
  • Gordon: Well done, Percy. You started so quickly that you stopped the nasty accident.
  • Percy: I'm sorry I was cheeky.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy.
  • Percy: You were clever to stop.
  • George Carlin: Replied Gordon. Then Gordon helped pull Percy out from the bank. The two engines are now good friends, but Percy was always most careful that he goes out on the main line.
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Donald and Douglas)
  • George Carlin: Donald and Douglas are twins and had arrived from Scotland to help Sir Topham Hatt, but only one engine had been expected. The twins meant well, but did cause confusion. Sir Topham Hatt had given them numbers, Donald 9 and Douglas 10, but he was still planning to send one engine home. There was a break van in the yard that had taken a dislike to Douglas. Things always went wrong when he had to take it out. His trains were late and he was blamed. Douglas began to worry. Donald, his twin, was angry.
  • Donald: You're a muckle nuisance!
  • George Carlin: Said Donald.
  • Donald: It's to leave you behind I'd be wanting.
  • Break Van: You can't!
  • George Carlin: Said the break van.
  • Break Van: I'm essential!
  • Donald: Och are you?
  • George Carlin: Donald burst out.
  • Donald: You're nothing but a screeching and a noise when all set is done. Spite Douggie, would ya? Take that!
  • Break Van: Ow! Ooh!
  • George Carlin: Cried the van.
  • Donald: There's more coming should you misbehave.
  • George Carlin: The van behave better after that. Until one day, Donald had an accident. The rails were slippery. He couldn't stop in time. Donald wasn't hurt, but Sir Topham Hatt was most annyoed.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I am disappointed, Donald. I didn't expect such, er, clumsiness from you. I had decided to send Douglas back and keep you.
  • Donald: I'm sorry, sir.
  • George Carlin: Said Donald.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I should think so, too. You have upset my arrangements. Now James will have to help you with the goods work, while you have your tender mended. James won't like that.
  • George Carlin: Sir Topham Hatt was right. James grumbled dreadfully about extra work.
  • Douglas: Anyone would think.
  • George Carlin: Said Douglas.
  • Douglas: That Donald had had his accident on purpose. I heard tell about an engine and some tar wagons.
  • James: Shut up!
  • George Carlin: Said James.
  • James: It's not funny.
  • George Carlin: He didn't like to be remind about his own accident.
  • Donald: Well, well, well! Surely, James, it wasn't you. You didn't say.
  • George Carlin: James didn't say. He slouched sulkily away.
  • Break Van: James is cross!
  • George Carlin: Sniggered the spiteful break van.
  • Break Van: We'll try to make him crosser still!
  • Cars: Hold back!
  • George Carlin: Giggled the freight cars to each other. James did his best, but he was exhausted when they reached Edward's station. Luckily, Douglas was there.
  • James: Help me up the hill, please!
  • George Carlin: Panted James.
  • James: These freight cars are playing tricks.
  • Douglas: We'll show them.
  • George Carlin: Said Douglas. Slowly but surely, the snorting engines forced the freight cars up the hill. But James was losing steam.
  • James: I can't do it, I can't do it!
  • Douglas: Leave it to me!
  • George Carlin: Shouted Douglas. The conductor was anxious.
  • Conductor: Go steady! The van's breaking!
  • George Carlin: The van was in pieces. No one had been hurt, and soon Edward came to clear the mess. Sir Topham Hatt was board.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I might have known it would be Douglas.
  • George Carlin: He said.
  • Edward: Douglas was grand, sir.
  • George Carlin: Said Edward.
  • Edward: James had no steam left, but Douglas worked hard enough for three. I heard him from my yard.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Two would have been enough.
  • George Carlin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I want to be fair, Douglas, but I don't know. I really don't know.
  • George Carlin: Sir Topham Hatt was making up his mind about which engine to send away, but that's another story.
  • (A nameplate sequence occurs and we begin The Deputation)
  • George Carlin: Snow came early to the Island of Sodor. It was heavier than usual. Most engines hate snow. Donald and Douglas were used to it. Couple back to back with the van between their tenders and the snowplough in their fronts, they set to work. They puffed backwards and forward patrolling the line. Generally, the snow slipped away fiercely, but sometimes they found deeper drifts. Presently, they came to a drift which was larger than most. They charged it, and were just backing for another try when...
  • Henry: Help, help!
  • Douglas: Losh shakes, Donald! It's Henry!
  • Donald: Don't worry yourself, Henry! Wait a while! We'll help you out!
  • George Carlin: Henry was very grateful. He saw all was not well. The twins were looking glum. They told him Sir Topham Hatt was making a decision.
  • Donald: He'll send us away for sure.
  • Percy: It's a shame.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy.
  • Gordon: A lot of nonsense about a broken signalbox.
  • George Carlin: Grumbled Gordon.
  • James: That spiteful break van too.
  • George Carlin: Put in James.
  • James: Good riddance. That's what I say.
  • Henry: The twins were splendid in the snow.
  • George Carlin: Added Henry.
  • Henry: It isn't fair.
  • George Carlin: They all agreed that something must be done, but none knew what. Percy decided to talk to Edward about it.
  • Edward: What you need...
  • George Carlin: Said Edward.
  • Edward: ...is a deputation.
  • George Carlin: He explained what that was. Percy ran back quickly.
  • Percy: Edward says we need a depostation.
  • Gordon: Of course.
  • George Carlin: Said Gordon.
  • Gordon: The question is...
  • Henry: What is a desperation?
  • George Carlin: Asked Henry.
  • Percy: It's when engines tell Sir Topham Hatt something's wrong.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy.
  • Duck: Did you say tell Sir Topham Hatt?
  • George Carlin: Asked Duck thoughtfully. There was a long silence.
  • Gordon: I purpose.
  • George Carlin: Said Gordon.
  • Gordon: That Percy be our...um...disputation.
  • Percy: Me?!
  • George Carlin: Squeaked Percy.
  • Percy: I can't!
  • Henry: Rubbish, Percy.
  • George Carlin: Said Henry.
  • Henry: It's easy.
  • Gordon: That's settled then.
  • George Carlin: Said Gordon. Poor Percy wished it wasn't.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Hello, Percy. It's nice to be back.
  • George Carlin: Percy jumped.
  • Percy: Uh, yes sir, please sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You look nervous, Percy. What's the matter?
  • Percy: Please, sir, they made me a desperation, sir, to speak to you sir. I don't like it, sir.
  • George Carlin: Sir Topham Hatt pondered.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Do you mean a deputation, Percy?
  • Percy: Yes sir, please sir. It's Donald and Douglas. They say, sir, that if you send them away, sir, well, they'll be turned to scrap, sir. That would be dreadful, sir. Please, sir, don't send them away.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Thank you, Percy. That will do.
  • George Carlin: Later, Sir Topham Hatt spoke to the engines.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I had a deputation. I understand your feelings and I give a lot of thought to the matter.
  • George Carlin: He paused impressively.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Donald and Douglas, I hear that your work in the snow was good. You shall have a new coat of paint.
  • George Carlin: The twins were surprised.
  • Donald: Thank you, sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: But your names will be painted on you. We'll have no more mistakes.
  • Douglas: Thank you, sir. Uh, does this mean that the both of us?
  • George Carlin: Sir Topham Hatt smiled.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: It means...
  • George Carlin: But the rest of his speech was drowned in a delighted chorus of cheers and whistles. The twins were here to stay.
  • (Engines whistling)
  • (Another nameplate sequence occurs and we begin Bye George!)
  • Alec Baldwin: One day, George the Steam Roller waiting for Percy to take him to a new workplace. George was being rude to Rheneas and Skarloey.
  • George: You're just worn out wheels on worn out rails!
  • Skarloey: You need rocks for your roads.
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied Skarloey.
  • Skarloey: And we're helping you.
  • George: I need to flatten little engines in the scrapyard.
  • Alec Baldwin: Retorted George. Then Percy arrived to take George away. He was still rebelling.
  • George: Railways are no good! Turn them into roads!
  • Alec Baldwin: The little engines were pleased to see him go. George grumbled all the way to the old branch line. He was going to turn it into a road. When they arrived, George was rude again.
  • George: Bumpy ride on rotten rails. I'm glad it's over.
  • Percy: So am I.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Percy.
  • George: Huh!
  • Alec Baldwin: Huffed George. Percy was still fuming when he met Thomas.
  • Thomas: What's up, Percy?
  • Percy: It's George. He makes me feel down.
  • Thomas: Just ignore him.
  • Alec Baldwin: Puffed Thomas. George was now enjoying himself.
  • George: Ripping up rails!
  • Alec Baldwin: He chortled.
  • George: What a life. What did you think of this, Thomas?
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas took no notice. George felt insulting.
  • George: You're a useless blue puffball!
  • Alec Baldwin: But Thomas didn't hear.
  • George: I'll show him who's boss?
  • Alec Baldwin: At last, the workmen reached the level crossing.
  • Workman: What shall we do here?
  • George: Tear it up, tarmacing.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said George. So they did but not properly and George knew it. Later, Thomas was travelling home on the same line. He was pulling freight cars filled with vegetables. The signalman had forgotten to warn his driver about the crossing.
  • Thomas: That's nice. We don't need to stop.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Thomas happily.
  • Thomas' Driver: Yes we do.
  • Alec Baldwin: Called his driver. But it was too late.
  • (Thomas slides off the rails, rolls down a field and crashes into a barn)
  • Alec Baldwin: Next day, Percy told Gordon all about George.
  • Gordon: Huh.
  • Alec Baldwin: Snorted Gordon.
  • Gordon: You're just a small engine. That's why he's rude to you. He wouldn't dare cause me any trouble.
  • Alec Baldwin: George had been taken to some yards to work. Duck arrived with a train of empty freight cars. George was blocking his way and a car was stuck on the main line.
  • Duck: Let me through.
  • Alec Baldwin: Demanded Duck.
  • George: You'll just have to wait.
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied George.
  • Duck: There's no time to wait. I must clear my freight cars from the main line to let Gordon through.
  • George: Then you'll had to wait too.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said George. Duck's driver went to complain to the stationmaster. But the signalman had set the signal to allow Gordon to speed through. His passengers with singing his praises and he was making express time.
  • Gordon: I'm the greatest. Just watch me fly by.
  • Alec Baldwin: He whistled long and loud as he approached the station. Suddenly, he saw a freight car on the line ahead.
  • Gordon: Get out of my way!
  • Alec Baldwin: But the freight car wouldn't move until Gordon forced it...
  • (Gordon sends a freight car flying into the air and it lands onto the ground)
  • Alec Baldwin: ...by accident. Gordon was worried that Sir Topham Hatt would be cross. He was but not with Gordon.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Whoever cause this disturbance will have me to answer to.
  • Alec Baldwin: And he did, a few days later.
  • Thomas: Look who's here.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Thomas. George had been found out by Sir Topham Hatt and punished. He looked miserable.
  • Percy: Now we'll get some peace and last.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Percy.
  • George: I wanna get rolling again. But I had to wait a whole week till I do.
  • Thomas: And then you'll be just as rude as ever. Eh, George?
  • George: I hope not. Don't you?
  • (A nameplate sequence happens and we begin Pop Goes The Diesel)
  • George Carlin: Duck is very proud of being Great Western. He talks endlessly about it. But he works hard too and makes everything ran like clockwork. It was a splendid day. The cars and coaches behave well, the passengers even stopped grumbling. But the engines didn't like having to bustle about.
  • Duck: There are two ways of doing things.
  • George Carlin: Duck told them.
  • Duck: The Great Western way, or the wrong way. I'm Great Western and...
  • Henry, Gordon and James: Don't we know it!
  • George Carlin: They groaned. The engines were glad when the visitor came. He purred smoothly towards him. Sir Topham Hatt introduce him.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Here is Diesel. I have agreed to give him a trial. He needs to learn. Please teach him, Duck.
  • Diesel: Good morning.
  • George Carlin: Purred Diesel in an oily voice.
  • Diesel: Please to meet you, Duck. Is that James and Henry and Gordon too? I am delighted to meet such famous engines.
  • George Carlin: The silly engines were flattered.
  • Engines: He has very good manners.
  • George Carlin: They murmured.
  • Engines: We're pleased to have in our yard.
  • George Carlin: Duck had his doubts.
  • Duck: Come on!
  • George Carlin: He said. Diesel purred after him.
  • Diesel: Your worth Top...
  • Duck: Sir Topham Hatt to you.
  • George Carlin: Ordered Duck. Diesel looked hurt.
  • Diesel: Your worthy Sir Topham Hatt thinks I need to learn. He is mistaken. We diesel don't need to learn. We know everything. We come to a yard and improvement. We are revolutionary.
  • Duck: Oh!
  • George Carlin: Said Duck.
  • Duck: If you are revo-thingummy, perhaps you would collect my cars while I fetch Gordon's coaches.
  • George Carlin: Diesel delighted to show off, purred away. When Duck returned, Diesel was trying to take some cars from a siding. They were old and empty. They've not been touch for a long time. Diesel found them hard to move.
  • Diesel: Pull! Push! Backwards! Forwards!
  • Cars: Oh! Oh!
  • George Carlin: The cars groaned.
  • Cars: We can't! We won't!
  • George Carlin: Duck watched with interest. Diesel lost patience.
  • Diesel: Grrr!
  • George Carlin: He roared, and gave a great heave. The cars jerked forward.
  • Cars: Ohhh!
  • George Carlin: They screamed.
  • Cars: We can't! We won't!
  • George Carlin: Some of their brakes snapped, and the gear jammed in the sleepers.
  • Diesel: Grrrr!
  • Duck: Ha, ha, ha!
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Duck. Diesel recovered and try to push the cars back, but they wouldn't move. Duck ran quietly around to collect the other cars.
  • Duck: Thank you for arranging these, Diesel. I must go now.
  • Diesel: Don't you want this lot?
  • Duck: No thank you.
  • George Carlin: Diesel gulped.
  • Diesel: And I've taken all this trouble? Why didn't you tell me?
  • Duck: You never asked me. Besides.
  • George Carlin: Said Duck.
  • Duck: You were having such fun being revo-whatever-it-was-you-said. Goodbye.
  • Diesel: Grrrr!
  • George Carlin: Diesel had to help the workmen clear the mess. He hated it. All the cars were laughing and singing at him.
  • Cars: Cars are waiting in the yard, tackling them with ease'll, show the world what I can do, gaily boasts the Diesel, in and out he creeps about, like a big black weasel, when he pulls the wrong cars out, Pop Goes The Diesel!
  • Diesel: Grrr!
  • George Carlin: Growled Diesel, and scuttled away to sulk in the shed.
  • (Another nameplate sequence happens and we begin Diesel Does It Again)
  • George Carlin: Duck and Percy enjoyed their work in the harbour, pulling and pushing freight cars full of cargo to and from the key. But one morning, the engines were exhausted. The harbour was busier than ever. Sir Topham Hatt promised that another engine would be found to help them.
  • Percy: Huh. It's about time.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy.
  • Duck: I ached so much I can hardly get my wheels to move.
  • George Carlin: Agreed Duck. They waited for the engine to arrive. It came as a shock when he did.
  • Diesel: Good morning.
  • George Carlin: Squirmed Diesel in his oily voice. The two engines had not work with Diesel for a long time.
  • Duck: What are you doing here?
  • George Carlin: Gasped Duck.
  • Diesel: Your worth Top...er, Sir Topham Hatt sent me. I hope you are please to see me again. I have to shunt some dreadful tiresome cars.
  • Percy: Shunt where?
  • George Carlin: Said Percy suspiciously.
  • Diesel: Where? Why from here to there.
  • George Carlin: Purred Diesel.
  • Diesel: And then again from there to here. Easy, isn't it?
  • George Carlin: With that, Diesel as if to make himself clear bumped some cars hard.
  • Cars: Ooh!
  • George Carlin: Screamed the cars.
  • Diesel: Grrr!
  • George Carlin: Growled Diesel. Percy and Duck were horrified. They did not trust Diesel at all. They refuse to work and did not leave their shed. Sir Topham Hatt was enjoying his tea and iced bun when the telephone rang.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: So there's trouble in the harbour yard? I'll be there right away.
  • George Carlin: Diesel was working loudly and alone. Cargo lay on the key. Ships and passengers were delayed. Everyone was complaining about Sir Topham Hatt's Railway. Percy and Duck were sulking in their shed.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: What's all this?
  • George Carlin: Demaded Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Percy: We're on strike, sir.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy nervously.
  • Duck: Yes.
  • George Carlin: Added Duck.
  • Duck: Beg pardon, sir, but we don't work with Diesel, sir. You said you sent him packing, sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I have to give Diesel a second chance.
  • George Carlin: Replied Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I'm trying to help by bringing Diesel here. Now you must help me he is the only engine available.
  • George Carlin: Percy and Duck went sadly back to work. Next day, things were no better. Diesel's driver did not put on his brakes on properly and Diesel started to move. He went bump straight into Percy.
  • Diesel: Wake up there, Percy.
  • George Carlin: Scowled Diesel.
  • Diesel: You have work to do.
  • George Carlin: He didn't even say he was sorry to Percy. Later, Diesel bumped the cars so hard that the loads went everywhere.
  • Percy: What would Sir Topham Hatt say?
  • George Carlin: Gasped Percy.
  • Duck: He won't like it.
  • George Carlin: Said Duck.
  • Diesel: So who's going to tell you I wonder? Two goody-goody tattletales like you I suppose?
  • George Carlin: Percy and Duck did not wanna be tattletales, so they said nothing. Diesel thinking he can getting away from his bad behavior was ruder than ever. Next day, he was shunting freight cars full of China Clay. He banged the cars hard into the buffers, but the buffers weren't secure. The silly cars were sunked! Sir Topham Hatt heard the news. The cars were hoisted safely from the sea but the clay was lost. Sir Topham Hatt spoke severly to Diesel.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The harbour master has tell me anything. Things weren't much better here before you arrived. I shall not be inviting you back. Now Duck and Percy, I hope you don't mind having handle the work by yourselves again.
  • Percy: Oh no, Sir.
  • Duck: Yes please, Sir.
  • George Carlin: Replied the engines. Whistling cheerfully, they puff back to work while Diesel sulk slowly away.
