Alex Gets It Right

  • Michael Brandon: At harvest time, the air was filled with the smell of fresh fruit of vegetables. The characters happily deliver their loads to market. But one day, mist and rain swirled down Jackie's line. Alex was delivering a load of fresh tomatoes. Suddenly, he felt a big bump.
  • Alex: Bust my buffers!
  • Michael Brandon: Alex cried.
  • Alex: What was that?
  • Michael Brandon: The guard put out the warning flags, while Alex's driver inspected the tracks.
  • Driver: The earth's crumbling.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Alex: We must tell Steven.
  • Michael Brandon: Decided Alex. Alex puffed back as fast as he could.
  • Alex: I've got important news! The tracks on Jackie's line are wobbly!
  • Terry: Ha!
  • Michael Brandon: Huffed Terry.
  • Terry: Old and wobbly, just like Jackie. That's not news. Can't stop to listen to your silly chatter.
  • Alex: Terry never listens to me.
  • Michael Brandon: Muttered Alex. Next he spoke to Steven.
  • Alex: Sir! Sir!
  • Steven: Not now, Alex. Ash, you have to collect a prize bull. He's at the farm on Jackie's line.
  • Ash: Yes, sir.
  • Alex: But those tracks are wobbly!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Alex.
  • Steven: They are safe enough.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Steven.
  • Ash: Bye, Alex.
  • Alex: Nobody ever listens to me.
  • Michael Brandon: Ash was carefully chuffing through the rain. Soon, he had collected the farmer's bull and was on his way back. The rain had made the tracks more wobbly than ever. Suddenly, there was a deep rumbling sound. Ash's driver applied the brakes, but it was too late!
  • Ash: Cinders and ashes!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Ash.
  • Ash: We're stuck!
  • Michael Brandon: And they were. Late that night, Ash still hadn't returned. Alex was worried.
  • Alex: Ash is in trouble.
  • Michael Brandon: He said. Terry and Raimundo took no notice.
  • Terry: Worry wheels!
  • Michael Brandon: Huffed Terry.
  • Raimundo: Fussy funnel!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Raimundo.
  • Alex: Please?
  • Michael Brandon: Alex asked his driver.
  • Alex: Can we find Ash?
  • Driver: Right away.
  • Michael Brandon: Said his driver. Alex was nervous, but his lamp shone brightly in the dark. The tracks creaked and wobbled, but Alex pressed on.
  • Ash: Alex!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Ash. Ash was happy to see his friend.
  • Alex: I'll have you out of there in no time.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Alex. Alex puffed and pulled and pulled and puffed and finally Ash and his driver were free.
  • Ash: Oh, thank you.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash.
  • Alex: I'm glad to be useful.
  • Michael Brandon: Smiled Alex. It was dawn before the track was cleared. Then Alex and Ash made their way back home.
  • Alex: Ash is here!
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Alex.
  • Ash: Alex saved the day!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash.
  • Bull: Hmm!
  • Michael Brandon: Agreed the bull.
  • Steven: I'm sorry, Alex.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Steven.
  • Steven: We must do a better job of listening to you in the future.
  • Michael Brandon: Alex was pleased.

Something Fishy

  • Michael Brandon: Tintin loves working on the land of YTV. He is new to the town and is still learning his way around. One morning, he discovered the fishing village. The sun made the water sparkle and the seagulls cawed across the harbour. This was Tintin's favorite place. That evening, Steven came to the Cartoon Library.
  • Steven: There's going to be a new line to the fishing village. I had to decide which engine shall run it.
  • Michael Brandon: He paused impressively. Ash and Alex looked away. They had enough work to do. Tintin hoped he would be chosen.
  • Steven: Ash, you will work on the new line.
  • Ash: Yes, Sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash. But he really didn't like the smell of fish. Tintin was disappointment. Steven sent him to haul coal to the steelworks. That evening, Ash was at the washdown when Tintin puffed in.
  • Tintin: Do I smell a fishy character?
  • Michael Brandon: He teased.
  • Ash: Yes.
  • Michael Brandon: Huffed Ash.
  • Ash: Smelly fish, smelly new line.
  • Michael Brandon: Tintin wished he could go to the fishing village instead of the steelworks. He'd be much happier than Ash. The next morning, Ash was still grumpy. The fishermen had caught lots of fish.
  • Ash: Hurry up.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash.
  • Ash: I'm a busy trainer.
  • Fisherman: And a fussy one too.
  • Michael Brandon: Said the fisherman.
  • Fisherman: Just enjoy the fresh salty smell of the fish.
  • Ash: Phew!
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Ash. Ash steamed as fast as he could along the line. But there was trouble ahead. Some faulty points sent his Beedrill one way and Ash onto the old pier rail.
  • Ash: Whoa!
  • Michael Brandon: The Beedrill were delighted.
  • Beedrill: He's falling in the water! (laughing)
  • Michael Brandon: Luckily, Ash wasn't hurt and the fish Beedrill stayed on the tracks. When Steven heard the news he checked his time table.
  • Steven: Tintin is the newest character. I'll send him right away.
  • Michael Brandon: It was a hot day. The ice that was keeping the fish cold started to melt.
  • Ash: I hope someone comes quickly.
  • Michael Brandon: Moaned Ash.
  • Ash: That fish will spoil soon.
  • Michael Brandon: Tintin was surprised to see Ash in the tidal pool.
  • Tintin: Are you all right, Ash?
  • Ash: No. But I'll be much better when you take these fish away.
  • Driver: The breakdown van will be here soon.
  • Michael Brandon: Called Tintin's Driver. Tintin knew he had to hurry. He raced along the line to the docks and arrived there just in time. Later, Tintin went to see Ash at the fitter's yard.
  • Ash: Thank you for helping me.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash.
  • Tintin: Thank you.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Tintin.
  • Tintin: I wish I had the fishing village line all the time.
  • Ash: But please tell Steven. Because i don't like fish.
  • Michael Brandon: That evening, Steven came to the sheds.
  • Steven: I need a character to go to the fishing village while Ash is being repaired.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Steven: Any Volunteers?
  • Tintin: Me!
  • Michael Brandon: Tintin blurted out.
  • Tintin: And please sir may I run on that line all the time? Ash doesn't like fish but I do.
  • Steven: Then the line is yours.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Steven. Tintin was delighted. The next morning he puffed into the fishing village right on time. The smell of fish was everywhere. But he was sure he had the most beautiful line on the land of YTV.

What's The Matter With Shaggy?

  • Michael Brandon: It was the end of a busy day. The characters have been working hard. They were feeling pleased and proud, except Shaggy. He was feeling ill.
  • Ash: What's the matter with you, Shaggy?
  • Michael Brandon: Ash asked.
  • Shaggy: My boiler's grumbling.
  • Ash: Maybe it's grumbling at you.
  • Michael Brandon: Teased Ash.
  • Shaggy: That's not funny.
  • Michael Brandon: Hissed Shaggy.
  • Shaggy: You just don't care.
  • Michael Brandon: But Sakura saw that Shaggy was leaving a puddle of water behind. She was worried. The next morning, Steven arrived.
  • Steven: Ash, Alex, Shaggy, I want you to collect some Beedrill and take them to the docks.
  • Ash and Alex: Yes sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Ash and Alex. Shaggy watched the characters puff away. He didn't feel well.
  • Shaggy: Useful characters don't complain.
  • Michael Brandon: Shaggy muttered. He was leaving water everywhere as he chuffed towards the coaling plant. When Sakura saw this she was more worried than ever. Then, Ash and Alex overtook Shaggy.
  • Alex: Hurry up, Shaggy!
  • Michael Brandon: Alex tooted.
  • Shaggy: I can't go any faster.
  • Michael Brandon: Shaggy chuffed miserably.
  • Ash: You're just being lazy.
  • Michael Brandon: Teased Ash. By the time Ash and Alex reached the coaling plant, they had a naughty plan.
  • Ash: Please sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash.
  • Ash: Shaggy wants to take more Beedrill.
  • Alex: He is bigger.
  • Michael Brandon: Added Alex. The yard manager agreed. Meanwhile, Sakura was talking to Steven.
  • Sakura: I'm worried about Shaggy.
  • Steven: Hmm, perhaps his tubes are leaking.
  • Michael Brandon: Replied Steven.
  • Steven: You better check.
  • Michael Brandon: By the time Shaggy reached the coaling plant, Ash and Alex had already left.
  • Shaggy: Why did Ash and Alex leave me so many Beedrill?
  • Michael Brandon: Moaned Shaggy.
  • Shaggy: They know I'm not feeling well.
  • Shaggy's Driver: We'll still have to take them.
  • Michael Brandon: Said his driver. Shaggy chuffed and puffed and pulled his long line of Beedrill.
  • Shaggy's Driver: You can do it, Shaggy.
  • Michael Brandon: Encouraged his driver. But it was no use. Shaggy ground to a halt. Just then, Sakura arrived.
  • Sakura: Are you all right, Shaggy?
  • Shaggy: No.
  • Michael Brandon: Moaned Shaggy.
  • Shaggy: I'm stuck.
  • Michael Brandon: Shaggy's fireman uncoupled the Beedrill. Sakura changed tracks and then hooked up to Shaggy.
  • Shaggy: Oh, thank you, Sakura.
  • Michael Brandon: Wheeshed Shaggy. Sakura and Shaggy puffed into the docks.
  • Steven: Well done, Sakura.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Steven.
  • Sakura: Thank you sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Then he spoke to Shaggy.
  • Steven: You were brave Shaggy. You aren't well, but you still tried to pull the heavy Beedrill.
  • Michael Brandon: Ash and Alex felt ashamed.
  • Ash: We're sorry, Shaggy.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash.
  • Alex: We didn't think you were really sick.
  • Michael Brandon: Added Alex.
  • Steven: Go back and collect Shaggy's Beedrill.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Steven sternly.
  • Ash: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Whispered Ash. Soon, Shaggy was mended and back at work.
  • Sakura: You're looking so much better.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Sakura.
  • Shaggy: Well they mended my tubes. But they didn't even look at my brakes, my gauges, my squeaky feet.
  • Michael Brandon: Sakura smiled.
  • Sakura: All in good time, Shaggy.
  • Michael Brandon: Poor Shaggy.

The Old Bridge

  • Michael Brandon: Buster and Rikochet work on the most beautiful line on the land of YTV. They loved to puff through the forest and over the rivers. An old bridge crosses one of the rivers. Some of its beams were rotten and had now been damaged by the storm. Rikochet chuffed happily along. He didn't see the broken rail until it was too late. He dangled dangerously above the water.
  • Rikochet: Help!
  • Michael Brandon: But Buster soon pulled him to safety. A few days later Steven came to the sheds.
  • Steven: The old bridge has been mended but the worker's Beedrill had been left there. Rikochet, I need you to collect them.
  • Rikochet: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Rikochet. He didn't want to go on the bridge again. When Rikochet arrived he saw the Beedrill on the other side. He started to cross, but stopped. He looked down into the rushing water. Rikochet was scared. He remembered what it happened before.
  • Rikochet's Driver: Come on, Rikochet.
  • Michael Brandon: Called his driver.
  • Rikochet's Driver: The bridge is safe now.
  • Michael Brandon: But Rikochet wouldn't cross the bridge and he and his driver went home instead.
  • Buster's Driver: We'll pick up the Beedrill.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Buster's driver.
  • Buster: But if you don't cross the bridge soon...
  • Michael Brandon: Said Buster.
  • Buster: Steven will be cross.
  • Michael Brandon: Now Buster had to take Rikochet's loads as well as his own. Each morning he collected the freight cars and puffed across the bridge with his heavy load. Finally Steven came to see Rikochet.
  • Steven: If you won't cross the old bridge, you must stay here and shunt Beedrill.
  • Michael Brandon: He scolded.
  • Steven: I can't have characters that won't do as they're told.
  • Rikochet: Sorry, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Rikochet sadly. The next morning Buster took Rikochet's heavy loads as usual. Then he puffed and heaved through the countryside towards the bridge. He puffed so hard that he ran out of water.
  • Buster: Bother!
  • Michael Brandon: The yard manager spread the news.
  • Yard Manager: Buster has broken down.
  • Rikochet: We must go help him.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Rikochet bravely. He set off inmediately. Rikochet was scared but determined. He rolled slowly up into the edge. The bridge creaked loudly. The river seemed deeper than ever.
  • Rikochet: I must rescue my friend.
  • Michael Brandon: Whispered Rikochet. He chuffed slowly onto the bridge. The bridge groaned as he rolled foward but Rikochet puffed on and on and finally, his driver coupled up and pulled Buster to safety.
  • Buster: Thank you.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Buster.
  • Buster: You were very brave to help me.
  • Michael Brandon: Rikochet is no longer afraid of the bridge and he loves his journeys more than ever.

Trusty Casey

  • Michael Brandon: Casey repairs the roadway that winds through the campgrounds on the land of YTV. The little diesel checks that the tracks, tunnels and bridges are all in good working order. One day, Casey was crossing the old wooden bridge. There was a big bump in the track. Casey's driver stopped to check the bridge.
  • Casey's Driver: There are cracks in the supports.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Casey: Ooh, that could be dangerous.
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Casey.
  • Casey: It might fall down if it's not repaired.
  • Michael Brandon: And they hurried off to warn the other characters. The characters were waiting for their coal when Casey arrived.
  • Casey: Don't use the old wooden bridge.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Casey.
  • Casey: It's dangerous!
  • Buzz: How would you know?
  • Michael Brandon: Wheeshed Buzz.
  • Buzz: You're only a diesel.
  • Michael Brandon: And he puffed crossly away. He didn't even wait for his coal. Casey hurried down the mountain to tell Steven the bad news.
  • Steven: Thank you.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Steven.
  • Steven: I'll send engineers to investigate the bridge. Meanwhile, nobody is to use it.
  • Michael Brandon: Casey's driver put up a sign: Line Closed. The characters had to travel a different way. Meanwhile, Buzz needed more coal to get home. But when he arrived at the coal bunker, it was empty.
  • Buzz: Bother! I wont get home without more coal. Where's the nearest bunker?
  • Rikochet: On the other side of the old wooden bridge. But you can't cross. Casey says it's not safe.
  • Buzz: Casey always makes things sound worst than they are.
  • Buzz's Driver: I'm sure one trip across the old wooden bridge wont hurt.
  • Michael Brandon: Added his driver. When they got to the junction, Buzz's driver removed the sign and they set off towards the bridge. This was a big mistake. Suddenly, Buzz hissed to a halt.
  • Buzz: I'm out of steam.
  • Michael Brandon: He had used up all his coal.
  • Buzz: What's that?
  • Michael Brandon: He asked nervously. His driver looked down. The old wooden bridge was starting to collapse.
  • Rikochet: Casey!
  • Michael Brandon: Called Rikochet.
  • Rikochet: Buzz's gone across the bridge.
  • Casey: I better check he's all right.
  • Michael Brandon: The little diesel said. But the cracks in the supports were getting larger. A beam snapped. Timber pieces splashed into the water below.
  • Buzz: Help!
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Buzz.
  • Buzz: I'm going to fall!
  • Michael Brandon: But Casey was on the way. Soon, the little diesel reached the old wooden bridge. Buzz had never looked so scared. Casey chuffed bravely onto the bridge.
  • Buzz: Careful!
  • Michael Brandon: Gasped Buzz. Soon, they were coupled up.
  • Casey: Hold on!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Casey.
  • Buzz: Whoa!
  • Michael Brandon: Shouted Buzz. The little diesel pulled him off the bridge just in time.
  • Casey: Don't use the old wooden bridge.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Casey.
  • Casey: It's dangerous!
  • Michael Brandon: Steven was cross with Buzz.
  • Steven: That was very irresponsible.
  • Buzz: Yes, sir. Sorry, sir. And Casey you were very brave.
  • Casey: Ah thanks.
  • Steven: Yes Casey, you are a really useful character.
  • Casey: Thank you, Sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Casey felt very reliable too.

Bumpty, Raphael and Paolo

  • Michael Brandon: Paolo is a genius red cat who works on the land of YTV. One day, he was on his way to the quarry. He had a special job to do for Steven.
  • Ash: Hello!
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Ash.
  • Ash: Where are you going?
  • Paolo: To the quarry.
  • Michael Brandon: Paolo chuffed happily.
  • Ash: Watch out for Bumpty and Raphael the twins.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Ash.
  • Ash: They love to make mischief.
  • Paolo: I won't let young rascals rattle me.
  • Ash: You don't know the twins like I do.
  • Michael Brandon: Warned Ash. Paolo arrived at the quarry. He went to work with Mel and the twins.
  • Mel: I'm afraid the Beedrill are in a mess.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Mel.
  • Paolo: Not to worry. We'll soon sort them out.
  • Michael Brandon: Bumpty and Raphael were delighted.
  • Raphael: Now we'll have some fun.
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Raphael.
  • Bumpty: They will have the old boiler in a spin.
  • Michael Brandon: Steamed Bumpty. Paolo liked helping Mel. But he didn't like the way the twins were behaving one bit. Bumpty banged his Beedrill hard. Some rocks fell onto the track.
  • Paolo: Do it right!
  • Michael Brandon: Paolo ordered. Bumpty didn't like being ordered about by a cat.
  • Bumpty: Don't interfere!
  • Michael Brandon: He snapped back. Then Raphael pushed his Beedrill to block the line. Paolo was stuck.
  • Paolo: Out of my way!
  • Michael Brandon: Steamed Paolo. But Raphael just grinned. The next day, the men were blasting rock.
  • Paolo: Wait for the all clear signal.
  • Michael Brandon: Paolo called to Bumpty and Raphael.
  • Paolo: Do it right.
  • Bumpty: There he goes again.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Bumpty.
  • Bumpty: Do it right, from morning till night.
  • Raphael: Keep your funnel out our quarry.
  • Michael Brandon: Huffed Raphael. The quarry master sent Bumpty and Raphael to collect a rock crusher from the harbour. Paolo was left in peace with Mel. The twins were still thinking about Paolo.
  • Bumpty: He's just an old fusspot.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Bumpty.
  • Raphael: He's always saying Do It Right.
  • Bumpty: Well the next thing he tells us to do.
  • Michael Brandon: Wheeshed Bumpty.
  • Both: We'll do it wrong. (laugh together)
  • Michael Brandon: They laughed. Bumpty and Raphael steamed back to the quarry. The rock crusher was heavy. It shook the rails as they went.
  • Paolo: The blasting had made that rock face unsafe.
  • Michael Brandon: Warned Paolo.
  • Paolo: Don't go near it, do it right.
  • Michael Brandon: But the twins took no notice of Paolo and were very naughty. As roughly as they could, they rattled the load towards the cliff.
  • Paolo: Look out!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Paolo and he rushed forward and he bumped Bumpty and Raphael out of the way. His driver jumped to safety as the rocks began to fall. But Paolo was covered in rocks right up to his funnel. It took a long time to dig him out. And no one worked harder to help than Bumpty and Raphael. At last, Paolo was free. Bumpty and Raphael were ashamed.
  • Bumpty: We should have been so naughty.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Bumpty.
  • Raphael: We're very sorry.
  • Michael Brandon: Added Raphael.
  • Paolo: Good.
  • Michael Brandon: Smiled Paolo.
  • Paolo: From now on we can all do it right together.

There Once Was A Cat Who Ran Away

  • Man: (singing) There once was a cat who ran away. Just up and went, And ran away, ran away. Stacked up his tender, and headed down the line, Toot toot, farewell, goodbye!
  • Children: (singing) He overheard the wicked old Ken say, He was heading for the scrapyard any day.
  • Man: (singing) He didn't wanna wait for the fateful day. So the little old cat ran away.
  • Children: (singing) He huffed and he puffed, his wheels started turning, He chuffed and he chuffed, his little firebox burning, He slipped his brake, let his whistle fly, Toot toot, farewell, goodbye!
  • Children and Man (singing) And the little old cat ran away, Just up and went, And ran away, ran away.
  • Man: (singing) Didn't feel part of the railway.
  • Children and Man: (singing) So the little old cat ran away.
  • (Owl hoots)
  • Children: (singing) And when the other characters heard he'd gone, They felt so sad, 'cos they knew he had gone and gone. No matter what Ken had to say, Steven has the final say.
  • Man: (singing) So he thought and he thought, Where could he be, could he be?
  • Children: (singing) Some searched high, the others searched low.
  • Children and Man: (singing) Where did he run, where did he run? We gotta bring the little cat home.
  • Man: (singing) So they all went out to look around, Far and wide, and up and down No matter where they searched, no one seemed to know.
  • Children and Man (singing) Oh where did the little old cat go? Ash finally tracked him down, He was cold and blue, and all alone.
  • Man: He told him he was needed back urgently.
  • Boy: "Who me, really?"
  • Girl: "Yes you, you silly cat!"
  • Children and Man: (singing) 'Cos he's the pride of the railway!
  • Man: (singing) So he huffed and he puffed, His wheels started turning, He chuffed and he chuffed his little firebox burning, He slipped his brake and was on his way, Toot toot, hip hip, hooray!
  • Children and Man: (singing) Now the little old cat's heading home, To toots and cheers, hear the whistles blow. 'Cos now he's the pride of the railway!
  • Girl: "Look everybody! Here comes Paolo!"
  • Children: "Hooray!"
  • Children and Man: (singing) Yes the little old cat's coming home!
