Ananium is perhaps the deadliest substance used in weaponry by the civilizations in the universal chain. "Ananium" actually refers to a series of elements in the 17th period of the periodic table. These elements are very unstable and their atoms can only be supported by powerful crystal structures. Thus, ananium has only one ore-the auma. (The only ore of auma, in turn, is xanatil.) Ananium emits epsilon radiation, so direct exposure to it for even a picosecond or so can result in disintegration of organic matter. When used in weaponry, ananium can eliminate galactic superclusters or even entire sectors. Though th Hudnar deny it, the Xam claim that ananic weaponry was the only thing preventing the Hudnar from declaring total war in the War of the Ayyali Succession.

Only the Xam, Ayyal, Vahalin, and Andetarivo Union have ananic capabilities. With the union of the Ayyal and Xam in the Xamileurata League, a new power with unchallenged ananic potential was created. It is now an open secret that the Hudnar also have possession of ananium.
