[edit] The End of Rebu
After the abdication of Kariazyar, Syizyr of Rebu, in 13859 in favor of a republic, Rebu descended into anarchy as various political factions struggled to gain control of the state. Kariazyar, who had not overseen the establishment of a republic, did not want Rebu to disintegrate, so he attempted to regain control in order to oversee a peaceful transition. However, it was too late. Each party supported only its own beliefs and not the empire as a whole. To make matters worse for the Rebuvians, the Shadow War broke out two years into the struggle in 13861. It was not until 13865 that some degree of order was restored by the Olyagar (oligarchy) Psyartai in cooperation with the military. However, the populace despised the new oligarchy of capitalists that controlled them.
The Olyagars established as the governing political body of Rebu the Kansyal (Council). It was composed of senior party officials and those members of society considered "elite" by the Olyagars-those with the most funds. The Kansyal became increasingly corrupt as members bargained with one another to profit themselves, while the empire's infrastructure collapsed. Meanwhile, the Fulna had locked borders with Rebu's natural ally, Zefkhornazh. With a terrible standard of living and faced with destruction at the hands of the Fulna, the Rebuvian people revolted. Until 13879, the military quashed rebellions against the Olyagars, but in that year the Olyagar Psyartai fell out of favor with the military. Military officers arrested the Kansyal members and replaced them, forming a virtual military dictatorship out of what Kariazyar had intended to be a republic. Xibelenet IV responded with a mass revolt.
Two political factions whose ideologies has been banned under the Olyagars and ephemeral military regime, the Syocyal Demokracy Psyartai (Social Democrats) and the Andetarivo Psyartai (Nationalist Communists), led the revolt and goaded the rebels on. They formed a temporary alliance in order to topple the military dictatorship. They conspirated to offer the Fulna suzerainty over Rebu in exchange for military support, and negotiated a deal. The Andetarivo Psyartai planned to break the pact with the Fulna as soon as they were securely in power. The Fulna sent assassins to dispatch the members of the Kansyal. They then deployed a fleet to eliminate the Rebuvian military, easily succeeding in both tasks. They then placed Varzyai, premier of the Andetarivo Psyartai, in the position of Rebuvian Emperor in 13881.
