Q: It seems to me that other sub-fields on the wiki are far more active, both in terms of their general discussion and in terms of reporting campus visits etc. Do you guys suppose this is because the folks on the Anglophone/World Literature/Postcolonial sub-field are not wikians in the same way as others, or has there just not been that much post-MLA movement in this sub-discipline?

UNC Chapel Hill
Asst Prof, Postcolonial Lit and Theory
Send by Dec. 1
Contacted by office manager with request for writing sample (note: the sample was supposed to be requested in the original ad)
Q: Did UNC ask for a second sample, or did the applicant above fail to send the initial one?
A: UNC told me they forgot to ask for a writing sample in their ad and are asking for it now.(2)
That's a lie. They contacted others just to confirm acknowledgment, without any mention of a sample.
To "That's a lie." above: I would say it's more disorganization on the school's part than anyone lying.
I called the school directly after not receiving a request as mentioned above, and they did indeed confirm
that they neglected to include a writing sample as a required element in the original job ad and to send one
immediately.
It's still a lie...
I agree: how hard is it to e-mail the entire list and explain the mistake? It seems incredibly bad form to me.
My interactions with the "university manager" left me distinctly unimpressed. I think they're just badly disorganized.
MLA interview scheduled by phone: 12/12
I'm glad someone has an MLA interview with them, but I was never contacted by the office manager asking for a writing sample with the application (2). Does this count as a faulty or corrupted search?
- I'm the one w/ the interview, and I was never contacted either. I think I sent them a sample with my original app, though- the job ad just called for "applications" so I think I erred on the side of excessive materials
-That's great that you got the interview, but I thought they said they wouldn't be interviewing at the MLA?
That's what I thought too given that their ad said "finalists will be invited to campus".
-Did more than one person get an interview here? It's a very messy process, it seems. I too was under the impression that Chapel Hill does not do MLA.
Rejection letter received today (1/18) --for reference, part of the confusion is the UNC was doing two theory searches - one poco, one not . . or at least they posted two different adds. So, does the UNC rejection always include the "nevertheless, we were impressed" line?
