Old Iron

  • George Carlin: One day, Raimundo had to wait at the University till Kevin and his books came in. This made him cross.
  • Raimundo: Late again!
  • George Carlin: Kevin laughed and Raimundo fumed again. After Raimundo had finished his work, he went back to the yard, and puffed on to the turntable. He was still feeling very bad tempered.
  • Raimundo: Kevin is impossible!
  • George Carlin: He grumbled to the others.
  • Raimundo: He clanks about like a lot of old iron and he is so slow, he makes us wait!
  • George Carlin: Ash and Alex were indigment.
  • Alex: Old iron?! Slow?!
  • Ash: Why, Kevin could beat you in a race any day!
  • Raimundo: Really!
  • George Carlin: Said Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: I should like to see him do it. Next morning, Raimundo's driver was suddenly taking ill. He could hardly stand, so the fireman uncoupled Raimundo ready for shunting. Al was impatient. Suddenly, the signalman shouted. There was Raimundo puffing away down the line.
  • Signalman: All traffic halted!
  • George Carlin: Called the signalman. Then he told the fireman what had happened.
  • Signalman: Two boys were on Raimundo's footplate fiddling with the controls.
  • Fireman: Whew.
  • Signalman: They tumbled off and ran when Raimundo started.
  • (Phone rings)
  • George Carlin: The signalman answered the telephone.
  • Signalman: Yes? He's here? Right, I'll tell him. The inspector's coming at once. He wants a shunter's pole and a coil of wire rope.
  • Fireman: What for?
  • George Carlin: Wondered the fireman.
  • Signalman: Search me, but you better get them quickly.
  • George Carlin: The fireman was ready when Kevin arrived. The inspector saw the pole and a rope.
  • Inspector: Good man, jump in.
  • Kevin: We'll catch him, we'll catch him.
  • George Carlin: Puffed Kevin. Raimundo was laughing.
  • Raimundo: What a lark! What a lark!
  • George Carlin: He chuckled to himself. Suddenly, he was going faster and faster. He realized that he had no driver.
  • Raimundo: What shall I do? I can't stop! Help! Help!
  • Kevin: We're coming, we're coming!
  • George Carlin: Called Kevin. Kevin was panting up behind with every ounce of steam he had. At last, he caught up with Raimundo.
  • Kevin's Driver: Steady, Kevin.
  • George Carlin: Called his driver. The inspector stood on Kevin's front holding a noose of rope in the crook of the shunter's pole. He was trying to slip it over Raimundo's buffer. The characters swayed and lurched. At last...
  • Inspector: Got him!
  • George Carlin: He shouted. He pulled the noose tight. Gently braking, Kevin's driver checked the characters' speed, and Raimundo's fireman scrambled across and took control.
  • Kevin: So the old iron caught you after all.
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Kevin.
  • Raimundo: I'm sorry.
  • George Carlin: Whispered Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: Thank you for saving me. You were splendid, Kevin.
  • Kevin: That's all right.
  • George Carlin: Replied Kevin. The characters arrived at the station side by side. Steven was waiting.
  • Steven: A fine piece of work.
  • George Carlin: He said.
  • Steven: Raimundo, you can rest, and then take your train. I'm proud of you, Kevin. You shall go to the works and have your worn parts mended.
  • Kevin: Oh, thank you, Sir.
  • George Carlin: Said Kevin.
  • Kevin: It'll be lovely not to clank.

Raimundo In A Mess

  • George Carlin: Jackie and Princess Kitana were enjoying their new job on the land of YTV. But they do look old fashioned and did need new paint. Raimundo was very rude whenever he saw them.
  • Raimundo: Yech! What dirty objects!
  • George Carlin: He would say. At last, Jackie lost patience.
  • Jackie: Raimundo?
  • George Carlin: He asked.
  • Jackie: Why are you red?
  • Raimundo: I am a splendid boy.
  • George Carlin: Answered Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: Ready for anything. You never see my paint dirty.
  • Jackie: Oh.
  • George Carlin: Said Jackie earnestly.
  • Jackie: That's why you once needed bootlaces to be ready I suppose.
  • George Carlin: Raimundo went redder than ever and snorted off. It was such an insult to be remind how the time the bootlace have been use to mend a hole in his coaches. At the end of the line, Raimundo left his coaches and got out to his next train. It was a slow freight, stopping at every station to pick up and set down Beedrill, Raimundo hated slow freight trains.
  • Raimundo: Dirty Beedrill from dirty sidings! Yech!
  • George Carlin: Starting an only a few, he picked up more and more Beedrill at each station till he had a long train. At first, the Beedrill behaved well, but Raimundo bumped them so crossly that they were determined to get back at him. Presently, they approached the top of Terry's Hill. Heavy freight trains halt here to set the brakes. Al had had an accident with Beedrill before and should have remembered this.
  • Driver: Wait, Raimundo, wait!
  • George Carlin: Said the driver, but Raimundo wouldn't wait. He was too busy thinking what he would say to Jackie when they next met. The Beedrill's chance had come.
  • Beedrill: Hurrah! Hurrah!
  • George Carlin: They laughed, and banging their buffers they pushed him down the hill.
  • Beedrill: On, on!
  • George Carlin: Yelled the Beedrill.
  • Raimundo: I've got to stop, I've got to stop!
  • George Carlin: Groaned Raimundo. Disaster lay ahead.
  • (Raimundo crashes into the tar wagons)
  • George Carlin: Something sticky splashed all over Raimundo. He had run into two tar wagons, and was black from smokebox to cab. He was more dirty than hurt, but the tar wagons and some cars were all to pieces. Jackie and Alex were sent to help and came as quickly as they could.
  • Jackie: Look here, Alex!
  • George Carlin: Explained Jackie.
  • Jackie: Whatever is that dirty object?
  • Alex: That's Raimundo, didn't you know?
  • Jackie: It's Raimundo's shape.
  • George Carlin: Said Jackie.
  • Jackie: But Raimundo is a splendid boy and you'll never see his paint dirty.
  • George Carlin: Raimundo pretended he hadn't heard. Jackie and Alex cleared away the unhurt Beedrill and help Raimundo home. Steven met them.
  • Steven: Well done, Alex and Jackie.
  • George Carlin: He turned to Raimundo.
  • Steven: Fancy letting your Beedrill run away. I am surprised. You're not fit to be seen. You must be cleaned at once. Jackie shall have a new coat of paint.
  • Jackie: Please sir, can Kitana have one too?
  • George Carlin: Said Jackie.
  • Steven: Certainly, Jackie.
  • Jackie: Oh thank you, sir. She will pleased.
  • George Carlin: All Raimundo could do as watch Jackie as he ran off happily with the news.

Virgil Takes Charge

  • Alex: Do you know what?
  • George Carlin: Asked Alex.
  • Terry: What?
  • George Carlin: Grunted Terry.
  • Alex: Do you know what?
  • Terry: Silly!
  • George Carlin: Said Terry.
  • Terry: Of course I don't know what. If you don't tell me what what is.
  • Alex: Steven says that the work in the yard is too heavy for me. He's getting a bigger character to help me.
  • Raimundo: Rubbish!
  • George Carlin: Said Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: Any character could do it. If you work hard and chatterless, this yard would be a sweeter, a better and a happier place.
  • George Carlin: Alex went off to get some pets.
  • Alex: That stupid old traffic light.
  • George Carlin: He thought. He was remembering the time he misunderstood a traffic light and gone backwards instead of forwards.
  • Alex: No one listens to me now. They think I'm a silly little kid and order me about. I'll show them, I'll show them.
  • George Carlin: But he didn't know how. By the end of the afternoon, he felt tired and unhappy. He brought some pets to the station.
  • Steven: Hello, Alex.
  • George Carlin: Said Steven.
  • Steven: You look tired.
  • Alex: Yes sir, I am sir. I don't know if I'm standing on my head or on my feet.
  • Steven: You look the right way up to me.
  • George Carlin: Laughed Steven.
  • Steven: Cheer up. The new character is bigger than you and can properly do the work alone. Would you like to help build my new harbour? Ash and Jackie will help too.
  • Alex: Oh yes, sir. Thank you, sir.
  • George Carlin: The new character arrived.
  • Steven: What's your name?
  • George Carlin: Asked Steven.
  • Virgil: Montague, sir, but I'm usually called Virgil. They say I waddle. I don't really, sir, but I like Virgil better than Montague.
  • Steven: Good. Virgil it shall be. Here, Alex, show Virgil around.
  • George Carlin: The two characters went off together. Soon they were very busy. Raimundo, Terry and Shaggy watched Virgil quietly doing his work.
  • Shaggy: He seems a simple sort of character.
  • Raimundo: We'll have some fun and order him about.
  • Shaggy, Terry and Raimundo: (quacking noises) Wheesh!
  • George Carlin: Smoke billowed everywhere. Alex was cross, but Virgil took no notice.
  • Virgil: They'll get tired of it soon. Do they tell you to do things, Alex?
  • Alex: Yes they do.
  • George Carlin: Answered Alex.
  • Virgil: Right.
  • George Carlin: Said Virgil.
  • Virgil: We'll soon stop that nonsense.
  • George Carlin: He whispered something.
  • Virgil: We'll do it later.
  • George Carlin: Steven was looking forward to hot buttered toast for tea at home. Suddenly, he heard an extroitnary noise.
  • Shaggy, Terry and Raimundo: Wheesh! (snorting noises)
  • Steven: Bother!
  • George Carlin: He said and hurried to the yard. Virgil and Alex calmly sat on the switches outside the shed, refusing to let the characters in. Terry, Raimundo and Shaggy were furious.
  • Steven: Stop that noise!
  • George Carlin: Bellowed Steven.
  • Terry: They won't let us in!
  • George Carlin: Hissed Terry.
  • Steven: Virgil, explain this behavior.
  • Virgil: Beg pardon, sir, but I'm a teenager. We do our work without fuss, but begging your pardon, sir. Alex and I will be glad if you like to inform these, um, characters that we only take orders from you.
  • (Raimundo and Terry blew their whistles loudly)
  • Steven: Quiet!
  • George Carlin: Said Steven.
  • Steven: Alex and Virgil, I am pleased with your work today, but not with your behavior tonight. You have caused a disturbance.
  • George Carlin: Terry, Shaggy and Raimundo sniggered.
  • Steven: As for you.
  • George Carlin: Thundered Steven.
  • Steven: You've been worse. You made a disturbance. Virgil is quite right. This is my railway and I give the orders.
  • George Carlin: After Alex went away, Virgil was left to manage alone. He did so...easily!

Down The Hole

  • George Carlin: One day, Ash was at the university when Terry shuffled in with some Beedrill.
  • Ash: Phew!
  • George Carlin: Remarked Ash.
  • Ash: What a funny smell. Can you smell a smell?
  • Suzy: I can't smell a smell.
  • George Carlin: Said Suzy.
  • Ash: A funny musty sort of smell.
  • George Carlin: Said Ash.
  • Terry: No one noticed until you did.
  • George Carlin: Grumbled Terry.
  • Terry: It must be yours.
  • George Carlin: Not long ago, he had fallen into a dirty ditch. Ash enjoyed teasing him about it.
  • Ash: Suzy, Pietra, do you know what I think it is? It's ditchwater.
  • George Carlin: Before Terry could answer, Ash puffed away. Suzy and Pietra could hardly believe their ears.
  • Suzy: He's dreadfully rude I feel quite ashamed.
  • Pietra: I feel quite ashamed he's dreadfully rude.
  • George Carlin: And to Ash they said.
  • Suzy and Pietra: You musn't be rude, you make us ashamed.
  • George Carlin: But Ash didn't care a bit.
  • Ash: That was funny, that was funny.
  • George Carlin: He chuckled. He felt very pleased with himself. Suzy and Pietra were deeply shocked. They have great respect for Terry McGinnis. Ash left the coaches at the station and went off to a mine for some Beedrill. Long ago, miners digging there have made tunnels under the ground. Their rooves are strong enough to hold up cars but not the weight of characters. A large notice warns them not to enter the area: Danger! Characters must not pass this board.
  • Ash: Silly old board.
  • George Carlin: Thought Ash. He had often tried to pass it but had never suceeded. But this morning he had made a plan. The fireman went to throw the switch.
  • Ash: Now for my plan!
  • George Carlin: Huffed Ash. Bumping the Beedrill fiercely he jerked his driver off the footplate and followed them into the siding.
  • Driver: Come back!
  • George Carlin: Yelled his driver.
  • (A loud splash is heard as Ash falls to the mine)
  • Ash: Fire and smoke!
  • George Carlin: Said Ash.
  • Ash: I'm sunk.
  • George Carlin: And he was.
  • Ash: Oh, dear.
  • George Carlin: He said.
  • Ash: I am a silly trainer.
  • Steven: And a very naughty one, too. I saw you!
  • George Carlin: Said Steven.
  • Ash: Please let me out. I wont do it again.
  • Steven: I'm not sure. We can't lift you out with the cranes. The ground's not firm enough. Hmm, let me see. I wonder if Terry could pull you out.
  • Ash: Yes sir.
  • George Carlin: Said Ash. But he didn't want to meet Terry just yet.
  • Terry: Down the mine is he? Ha, ha, ha!
  • George Carlin: Laughed Terry.
  • Terry: What a joke! Boop boop! Little Ash, we'll have your out in a couple of puffs.
  • George Carlin: Strong cables were fastened between the two characters.
  • Steven: Are you ready? Heave!
  • George Carlin: It was a lot harden than they all thought. But at last Ash was free.
  • Ash: I'm sorry I was cheeky.
  • George Carlin: Said Ash.
  • Terry: That's all right, Ash. You made me laugh.
  • George Carlin: Replied Terry.
  • Terry: I'm in disgrace.
  • Ash: So do I.
  • George Carlin: Huffed Ash.
  • Terry: Why so you are Ash. Shall we form an alliance? You help me and I help you.
  • Ash: Right you are.
  • George Carlin: Agreed Ash.
  • Terry: Good. That's settled.
  • George Carlin: Rumbled Terry. And buffer to buffer the allies puffed home.

The Runaway

  • George Carin: Ash Ketchum was ill. Workmen had try to make him better, but it was no use.
  • Steven: Kevin must send you to the works.
  • George Carlin: Said Steven. Ash felt very miserable. Then, Steven spoke to Virgil.
  • Steven: I want you to help Alex and Jackie while Ash is away.
  • George Carlin: Virgil was delighted. He already knew Alex and soon made friends with Jackie and Sonic. Freakazoid gave him a big welcome too.
  • Freakazoid: Take care of Ash's coaches.
  • George Carlin: He advised.
  • Freakazoid: He's sure to miss them while he's away.
  • George Carlin: Virgil was very gentle with the coaches. Suzy and Pietra were impressed.
  • Suzy and Pietra: Such nice manners.
  • George Carlin: They told each other.
  • Suzy and Pietra: It really is a pleasure to go out with him.
  • George Carlin: When Ash came back, Suzy and Pietra told him how well Virgil had managed. Ash was so happy to be home that he soon forgot to be jealous. The works have left Ash's handbrake very stiff. It made his brakes seen they were on, when in fact they were not. As a result, he and his coaches often overran the platform. Ash found this most embarrasing. Gradually, his driver and fireman learned to be extra careful. But one day, Ash's fireman was ill and a relief man took his place. The fireman had fastened the coupling and joined the driver and stationmaster on the platform to wait for Shaggy's passengers. The fireman had forgot all about Ash's handbrake. Ash simmered happily.
  • Ash: Not long now.
  • George Carlin: He thought. As he saw Shaggy slowly approaching. But Ash's brakes were not on and suddenly he felt his wheels begin to move. He tried to stop, but he couldn't without his driver and fireman. He tried to whistle a warning, but he couldn't do that either. The Conductor, driver, fireman and passengers were all stranded on the platform.
  • Suzy and Pietra: Stop! Stop!
  • George Carlin: Shrieked Suzy and Pietra. But Ash, with plenty of steam, kept on going. The alarm went down the line.
  • Signalman: Stop the runaway!
  • George Carlin: There ready for action was Superman. The inspector had made a plan and together they took off into the sky. At last Ash was tiring.
  • Ash: I need to stop, I need to stop.
  • George Carlin: He panted weirdly. As they neared the next station Ash saw Superman land. They entered the platform slowly enough for the inspector to act. Judging his moments the inspector scrambled into the cab and screwed the brakes on.
  • (The inspector brakes with all his strength)
  • George Carlin: At last Ash stopped. Both he and the inspector were very relieved. Then they thanked Superman.
  • Superman: Think nothing of it. Glad to be at service anytime.
  • Inspector: Ash.
  • George Carlin: Remarked The inspector.
  • Inspector: We must never let this happen again.
  • George Carlin: Weirdly, Ash agreed with him.

Better Late Than Never

  • George Carlin: The characters were finding life difficult. Workmen were mending the viaduct on the main line. The arches needed strenghtany. Steven did not want to close the railway while the work was done and so repairs took a long time. The characters have to take great care when crossing the viaduct and the delay often made them late on their journey to the junction where they knew Ash would be ready to collect his passengers. Ash grew crosser and crosser.
  • Ash: Time's time.
  • George Carlin: He grumbled.
  • Ash: Why should I keep my passengers waiting while Shaggy and Raimundo dawdle about all day on viaducts?
  • Shaggy: Don't blame me.
  • George Carlin: Snorted Shaggy.
  • Shaggy: If we hurried to cross the viaduct, it might collapsed, and then you have no passengers at all. What would you do then?
  • Ash: Run my train on time for one thing.
  • George Carlin: Retorted Ash. He hurried away before Shaggy could answer. Sonic was impatient too. He was time to arrived just after Ash. His passengers found that, instead of going straight from the hedgehog till their train, they were kept waiting till Ash arrived. Soon Sonic grew cross with Ash.
  • Sonic: Late again!
  • George Carlin: He remarked as Ash panted wearily in.
  • Sonic: We may be friends, but I thought you could go fast, Ash. It's time we had another race. I reckon I can beat you now.
  • George Carlin: Ash let off steam loudly.
  • Ash: Rubbish!
  • George Carlin: He hissed fiercely.
  • Ash: It's those main line characters. They differ about on the viaduct, and they blamed Steven's workmen. It's just an excuse for laziness if you ask me.
  • George Carlin: One day, Raimundo was later than ever at the junction.
  • Raimundo: I'm sorry, Ash.
  • George Carlin: He puffed.
  • Raimundo: I was held up at the station, and the viaduct made it worse.
  • Ash: It's lucky for you I'm a guaratee connection.
  • George Carlin: Grumbled Ash. Before Raimundo could answer, he puffed importantly away.
  • Ash: Come along, come along!
  • George Carlin: He panted to the coaches. Suzy and Pietra did their best but Ash still found that he couldn't save much time. Suddenly, Ash saw Sonic ahead. His radiator was steaming.
  • Ash: What's the matter?
  • George Carlin: Asked Ash.
  • Ash: You should be at the station by now. You're late.
  • Sonic: I feel dreadful.
  • George Carlin: Moaned Sonic.
  • Sonic: All upset inside and driver says he can't make me better. Thank goodness you're late too. Can you take my passengers please? They'll never get home overwise.
  • Ash: Of course.
  • George Carlin: Agreed Ash. He now felt sorry for Sonic, and promised to get help at the next station. Ash set off again already he felt much more cheerful and Sonic's passengers, travelling in Suzy and Pietra all reached home safely. When Sonic was better he came to thank Ash.
  • Sonic: I'm sorry I teased you about being late.
  • Ash: That's all right.
  • George Carlin: Replied Ash.
  • Ash: I'm glad I can help. There are times when being late isn't such a bad thing after all.
  • George Carlin: With the last cheerful greeting, the two friends went back to work.

Characters and Turntables

  • George Carlin: Shaggy and Terry were lonely when Ash left the yard to run his route. They missed him very much. They had more work to do and had to fetch some more coaches. The big characters thought they were too important to fetch coaches. Raimundo grumbled too.
  • Shaggy: We get no rest, we get no rest!
  • Ringo Starr: They all complained. But the coaches only laughed.
  • Coaches: You're lazy and slack, you're lazy and slack!
  • George Carlin: They answered. All together, the characters were causing Steven a great deal of trouble. The big stations both ends on the line each have a turntable. Steven had made them so that the tender characters can be turned round because it is dangerous for them to go fast and backwards. Little characters like Ash don't need turntables. They can go just as well backwards as forwards. But to hear Terry talk, he would've thought that Steven had given him a tender just to show how important he was.
  • Terry: You don't understand, little Ash. We Big Characters have a position to keep up. It doesn't matter where you go, but we are important, and for Steven to make us shunt Beedrill, fetch coaches and go on some of those dirty sidings it's, it's, well, it's not the proper thing.
  • George Carlin: Ash chuckled and went off with Suzy and Pietra.
  • Terry: Disgraceful!
  • George Carlin: Terry hissed as he ran backwards to the turntable. The turntable was in the windy place close to the sea, and he was not on it just right, he put amount of balance and made a difficult to turn. Today, Terry was in the bad temper, and the wind was blowing fiercly. His driver tried to make him stop in the right place but Terry wasn't trying. The fireman tried to turn the handle, but Terry's weight and the strong wind prevented him.
  • Driver: It's no good.
  • George Carlin: They said at last.
  • Driver: Your big tender upsets the balance. If you're a little character, you be all right. Now you have to pull the next train backwards.
  • Boys: Look!
  • George Carlin: Called some boys.
  • Boys: There's a new character! Oh, it's only Terry, back to front.
  • Ash: Hello!
  • George Carlin: Called Ash.
  • Ash: Playing little characters? Sensible character. Take my advice, scrap your tender and have a nice bunker.
  • George Carlin: Terry said nothing. Even Raimundo laughed when he saw him.
  • Terry: Take care.
  • George Carlin: Hissed Terry.
  • Terry: You might stick too.
  • Raimundo: No fear.
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: I'm not so fat as you. I mustn't stick.
  • George Carlin: Thought Raimundo. He stopped on just the right place to balance the table. It could now swing easily. Terry arrived and time to see everything. Raimundo turned much too easily. The wind puffed him round like a top. He couldn't stop!
  • (Raimundo spins faster and faster until he slows down, and as the turntable stops, he is all green and dizzy)
  • Terry: Well, well!
  • George Carlin: Said Terry.
  • Terry: Are you playing roundabouts?
  • George Carlin: Poor Raimundo feeling quite giddy rolled off to the shed without a word. That night, the three characters had an indignation meeting.
  • Terry: It's shameful to treat tender characters like this. Terry has to go backwards and people think he's a tank character, Raimundo spins like a top and everyone laughs at us. And added to that, Steven makes us all shunt in dirty sidings. Ugh! Listen.
  • George Carlin: Said Terry. He whispered something to the others.
  • Terry: We'll do it tomorrow. Steven will look silly.
  • George Carlin: The characters had decided to go on strike.

Alex Proves A Point

  • George Carlin: Alex worked hard at the Cartoon University. The workmen needed stone for their building. Jackie helped, but sometimes the loads of stone were too heavy and Alex had to fetch them for himself. Sometimes he'd see Ash.
  • Ash: Well done, Alex. Steven is very pleased with us.
  • George Carlin: An airfield was closed by. Alex heard the airplane zooming overhead all day. The noises of all was a superhero.
  • Alex: Silly thing!
  • George Carlin: Said Alex.
  • Alex: Why can't and go and buzz somwhere else?
  • George Carlin: One day, Alex stopped at the airfield.
  • Alex: Hello.
  • George Carlin: Said Alex.
  • Alex: Who are you?
  • Superman: I'm Superman. Who are you?
  • Alex: I'm Alex. What whirly great arms you've got.
  • Superman: They're nice arms.
  • George Carlin: Said Superman.
  • Superman: I can hover like a bird. Don't you wish you could hover?
  • Alex: Certainly not. I like my rails, thank you.
  • Superman: I think railways are slow.
  • George Carlin: Said Superman.
  • Superman: They're not much use and quite out of date.
  • George Carlin: He whirled his arms and buzzed away. Alex found Jackie at the quarry.
  • Alex: I say Jackie. That Superman, that stuck up whirlybird thing, says I'm slow and out of date. Just let him wait. I'll show him.
  • George Carlin: He collected his Beedrill and started off still fuming. Soon, they heard a familar buzzing.
  • Driver: Alex.
  • George Carlin: Whispered his driver.
  • Driver: There's Superman. He's not far ahead. Let's race him.
  • Alex: Yes, let's.
  • George Carlin: Said Alex. Alex pounded along, the Beedrill screamed and swayed.
  • Driver: Well, I'll be a ding-dong dang!
  • George Carlin: Said the driver. There was Superman. The race was on!
  • Driver: Go it, Alex!
  • George Carlin: He yelled.
  • Driver: You're ganging!
  • George Carlin: Alex had never been allowed to go fast before. He was having the time of his life.
  • Alex: Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!
  • George Carlin: He panted to the Beedrill.
  • Beedrill: We don't want to, we don't want to.
  • George Carlin: They grumbled. It was no use. Alex was bucketing along with flying wheels and Harold was high and alongside. The fireman shoveled for dear life.
  • Driver: Well done, Alex!
  • George Carlin: Shouted the driver.
  • Driver: We're ganging! We're going ahead! Oh good boy, good boy!
  • George Carlin: A distant signal warned them that the harbour wharf was near.
  • Alex: Peep peep peep! Brakes, conductor, please?
  • George Carlin: The driver carefully checked the train's headlong speed. They rolled onto the main line, and haulted on the wharf.
  • Alex: Oh dear!
  • George Carlin: Groaned Alex.
  • Alex: I'm sure we've lost.
  • George Carlin: The fireman scrambled to the cab roof.
  • Fireman: We've won, we've won!
  • George Carlin: He shouted.
  • Fireman: Superman's still hovering. He's looking for a place to land. Listen, boys.
  • George Carlin: The fireman called.
  • Fireman: Here's a song for Alex. (singing) Said Superman to our Alex you are slow. Your railway is out of date and not much used you know, but Alex and his stone cars did the trip in record time, and we beat the helicopter on our old branch line.
  • George Carlin: Alex loved it.
  • Alex: Oh, thank you!
  • George Carlin: He said. He liked the last line best of all, and was a very happy kid.

Trust Ash

  • George Carlin: Ash Ketchum was feeling bright and cheerful. It was a splendid day.
  • Ash: Good morning.
  • George Carlin: He whistled to some cows, but the cows didn't reply.
  • Ash: Never mind.
  • George Carlin: Said Ash.
  • Ash: They're busy with their breakfast.
  • George Carlin: Next he saw Sonic.
  • Ash: Hello, Sonic. Care for a race today?
  • George Carlin: But all Sonic could say was...
  • Sonic: Ouch! That's another hole in the road!
  • Ash: I'm sorry, Sonic.
  • George Carlin: Smiled Ash. Ash was still in good spirits when Sonic arrived at the next station.
  • Ash: Bad luck, Sonic. Now if you're a steam character, you would run a repair on reliable rails.
  • Sonic: Huh!
  • George Carlin: Replied Sonic.
  • Sonic: The railway was suppose to deliver the tar to mend the road two weeks ago. You can't trust a thing that runs on rails.
  • Ash: I run on rails. You can trust me, Sonic. I'll see if I can find out what's happened.
  • George Carlin: And Ash puffed away towards the big station. Raimundo was snorting about in the yard.
  • Raimundo: It's too bad!
  • George Carlin: He grumbled.
  • Raimundo: Alex goes to work at the harbour and I do his job, here, there and everywhere! Take that!
  • Beedrill: Ooh!
  • George Carlin: Groaned the Beedrill.
  • Beedrill: Just you wait, we'll show you!
  • George Carlin: Terry laughed.
  • Terry: I'll tell you what, Raimundo. If you pretended to be ill everywhere, you couldn't shunt Beedrill here, or go to the quarry there, could you?
  • Raimundo: What a good idea.
  • George Carlin: Agreed Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: Look, here comes Ash. I'll start pretending now
  • George Carlin: Ash was sorry to see the characters looking miserable
  • Ash: Cheer up.
  • George Carlin: He puffed.
  • Ash: It's a beautiful day.
  • Terry: Yes.
  • George Carlin: Grumbled Terry.
  • Terry: But not for Raimundo.
  • Ash: What's the matter?
  • George Carlin: Asked Ash.
  • Terry: He's sick.
  • George Carlin: Replied Terry.
  • Raimundo: Yes he is. I mean I am.
  • George Carlin: Stuttered Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: I don't feel well at all.
  • Ash: Don't worry.
  • George Carlin: Said Ash kindly.
  • Ash: I'll help out if you're ill.
  • George Carlin: Terry and Raimundo sniggered quietly to each other. Some of Raimundo's Beedrill were coupled behind Ash and he steamed away to the quarry. The Beedrill were still cross.
  • Beedrill: We couldn't pay Raimundo back for bumping us, so we'll play tricks on Ash nstead. One character is as good as another.
  • George Carlin: But Ash didn't hear them. He collected all the stone from the quarry and set off back to the junction. Danger lay ahead.
  • Beedrill: Now for our plan!
  • George Carlin: Giggled the Beedrill.
  • Beedrill: Go faster, go faster!
  • George Carlin: They pushed Ash over the switches.
  • Ash's Driver: Slow down!
  • George Carlin: Called Ash's driver and applied the brakes.
  • (Ash hits the buffers, and a log snaps apart, sending him floating into another set of buffers)
  • George Carlin: Poor Ash stood dazed and surprised in the muddy pool, as a toad eyed in suspiciously.
  • Ash: Bust my buffers.
  • George Carlin: Muttered Ash.
  • Ash: The day started so well too.
  • George Carlin: Virgil pulled away the Beedrill, and Kevin helped Ash back to the junction. Suddenly, Ash remembered the missing tar. He told Kevin all about him.
  • Kevin: That's strange.
  • George Carlin: Said Kevin.
  • Kevin: A car full of tar been left in my station. That must be it. Driver will make sure it gets to Sonic now.
  • George Carlin: Later, Raimundo spoke to Ash.
  • Raimundo: I'm sorry about your accident.
  • George Carlin: He muttered.
  • Raimundo: And so is Terry. We didn't mean to get you into trouble.
  • Terry: No indeed.
  • George Carlin: Spluttered Terry.
  • Terry: A near misunderstanding, Ash, all's well that ends well.
  • George Carlin: Just then Sonic arrived. He looked much more cheerful.
  • Sonic: My road's being mended now.
  • Ash: Oh, I am glad.
  • George Carlin: Replied Ash.
  • Sonic: Thanks for all you did.
  • George Carlin: Added Sonic.
  • Sonic: Now I know I can trust a character especially his name was Ash.
  • George Carlin: Terry and Raimundo puffed silently away to the shed, but Ash still had company.
  • Ash: Well, well.
  • George Carlin: He sighed.
  • Ash: What a day for surprises.
  • George Carlin: The toad who was looking forward to arrive home noisly agreed.

Alex and The Traffic Light

  • George Carlin: Alex works in the hallways at the Cartoon University. He loves playing jokes, but they can get him into trouble. One morning, he was very cheeky indeed.
  • Alex: Peep peep! Hurry up, Terry, the train's ready.
  • George Carlin: Terry thought he was late.
  • Alex: Ha, ha, ha, ha!
  • George Carlin: Laughed Alex and showed him a train of dirty Beedrill. Terry thought how he can pay Alex back for teasing him. Next it was Raimundo's turn.
  • Alex: Stay in the shed today, Raimundo. Steven will come and see you.
  • Raimundo: Ah!
  • George Carlin: Thought Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: Steven knows I'm a fine boy. He wants me to pull the special train.
  • George Carlin: Raimundo's driver and fireman could not make him move. The other characters grumbled dreadfully. They had to do Raimundo's work as well as their own. At last, the inspector arrived.
  • Inspector: Show a wheel, Raimundo. You can't stay here all day.
  • Raimundo: Steven told me to stay here. He sent a message this morning.
  • Inspector: He did not. How could he? He's away for a week.
  • Raimundo: Oh.
  • George Carlin: Said Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: Oh. Where's Alex?
  • George Carlin: Alex had wisely disappeared. When Steven came back, he was cross with Raimundo and Alex for causing so much trouble. But the very next day, Alex was still being cheeky.
  • Alex: I say, you characters, I'm to take some Beedrill to Ash's junction. Steven chose me specialy. He must know I'm a really useful kid.
  • Raimundo: More likely, he wants you out of the way.
  • George Carlin: Grumbled Raimundo. Terry looked across to Raimundo. They were going to play a trick on Alex.
  • Terry: Raimundo and I were just speaking about traffic lights at the junction. We can't be too careful about traffic lights, but then I needn't say that to a really useful kid like you, Alex.
  • George Carlin: Alex felt flattered.
  • Raimundo: We've had spoken about backing traffic lights.
  • George Carlin: Put in Raimundo.
  • Raimundo: They need extra special care you know. Would you like me to explain?
  • Alex: No thank you, Raimundo.
  • George Carlin: Said Alex.
  • Alex: I know all about signals.
  • George Carlin: Alex was a little worried.
  • Alex: I wonder what backing traffic lights are.
  • George Carlin: He thought.
  • Alex: Never mind, I'll manage.
  • George Carlin: He puffed crossly to his Beedrill and felt better. He came to a traffic light.
  • Alex: Bother, it's a danger.
  • George Carlin: The traffic light moved to show line cleared. It's arm moved up instead of down. Alex had never been that sort of signal before.
  • Alex: Down means go and up means stop. So upper still must mean go back. I know. It's one of those backing traffic lights.
  • Driver: Come on, Alex.
  • George Carlin: Said his driver.
  • Driver: Off we go. Stop! You're going the wrong way!
  • Alex: But it's a backing traffic light.
  • George Carlin: Alex protested and told him about Terry and Raimundo. The driver laughed and explained.
  • Alex: Oh, dear.
  • George Carlin: Said Alex.
  • Alex: Let's start quickly before they see us.
  • George Carlin: He was too late. Terry saw everything. That night, the big characters talked about signals. They thought the subject was funny. Alex thought they were being very silly.
