Strategy and Combos

Ashnod's Coupon does practically nothing on its own to win the game. Its best use in that regard is in conjunction with physically restricting cards such as Handcuffs and Farewell to Arms and in certain cases vocally restricting cards such as Keeper of the Sacred Word or Censorship. This card also combos nicely with Cheatyface

It is also possible to recur Ashnod's Coupon indefinitely in order to irritate your opponents into conceding. This can be done, for instance, with Enduring Renewal and March of the Machines.

It may be possible to combo this card with Mindslaver, Donate, Auriok Transfixer, and a drink to make an opponent buy the drink from you at any price you want.[1]

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this card to force a player to purchase alcohol for a minor?

Not where it's prohibited by law.[2]

If I'm controlling my opponent's turn and use the coupon targeting the active player (me/my opponent), who gets the drink, and who pays the costs for the drink?

If R&D's Secret Lair is in play, do I still have to pay the costs for the drink?

Possible answers:

  • The "errata" is a separate activated ability; you errata as its cost when you play it.[3]

What if it's impossible for my opponent to get the drink or for me to pay for the drink?

What if my opponent and I disagree over whether it's possible to get or to pay for the drink?
