Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom and battle strategies. Her Roman form is that of Minerva. Athena is the daughter of Zeus, king of the gods. Greek myths state that Zeus's head was cut open and Athena came out, already a fully grown goddess. (Zeus survived!)
Athena never married, and so she didn't have any children.
Athena's sacred animal happens to be an owl. Perhaps that has something to do with why we humans still associate owls with wisdom. She is also associatied with armor, being that she is the goddess of battle strategies.
