Narrator: "Bashful the Dwarf was grumbling to the other dwarfs."

Bashful: "I spend my time pulling animals about, ready for you to take out on journeys."

Narrator: "The other dwarfs laughed."

Bashful: "Why can't I take passengers, too?"

Grumpy: "You're too impatient."

Narrator: "They said."

Grumpy: "You'd be sure to leave something behind."

Bashful: "Rubbish!"

Narrator: "Said Bashful."

Bashful: "I'll show you."

Narrator: "One night, he and Happy were alone. Happy was ill. The men worked hard, but he didn't get better.

He felt just as bad next morning. Happy usually took the first passengers, and Bashful had to get his animals ready."

Bashful: "If Happy is ill,"

Narrator: "He thought."

Bashful: Perhaps I shall take his animals."

Narrator: "Bashful ran to find the animals."

Bashful: "Come along, come along!"

Narrator: "He fussed."

Forest Animals: "There's plenty of time, there's plenty of time."

Narrator: "They grumbled.

Bashful took them to the platform, and wanted to run around in front at once.

But his driver wouldn't let him."

Bashful's Driver: "Don't be impatient, Bashful!"

Narrator: "Bashful waited and waited.

People got on board, the guard and stationmaster walked up and down, the porter secured the animals, and still, Happy didn't come. Bashful got more and more excited.

Walt Disney came to see what was the matter, and the guard and the stationmaster told him about Happy."

Walt Disney: "Find another dwarf."

Narrator: "He ordered."

Guard and Stationmaster: "There's only Bashful."

Narrator: "They said."

Walt Disney: "You'll have to do it then, Bashful. Be quick now."

Narrator: "So Bashful ran round to the front and back down onto the animals ready to start.

Bashful's Driver: "Let's not be impatient, Bashful."

Narrator: "Said his driver."

Bashful's Driver: "We'll wait till' everything is ready.

Narrator: but Bashful was too excited to listen.

What happened then, nobody knows. Perhaps the first animal forgot to grab Bashful, or perhaps Bashful was given the signal by mistake. Anyhow, Bashful started without his animals. As they passed the first signal tower, mens waved and shouted, but he didn't stop."

Bashful: "They're waving because I'm such a splendid dwarf.

Narrator: "He thought importantly."

Bashful: "Happy says it's hard to pull animals, but I think it's easy.

Hurry, hurry, hurry!"

Narrator: "He puffed, pretending to be like Grumpy."

Bashful: "People have never seen me taking passengers before. It's nice of them to wave."

Narrator: "And he whistled."

Bashful: "Thank you."

Narrator: "Then he came to a signal at 'Danger'."

Bashful: "Bother!"

Narrator: "He said."

Bashful: "I Must stop, and I was going so nicely, too! What a nuisance signals are."

Narrator: "He blew an angry whistle.

The signalman ran up."

Signalman: "Hello, Bashful."

Narrator: "He said."

Signalman: "What are you doing here?"

Bashful: "I'm pulling animals."

Narrator: "Said Bashful."

Bashful: "Can't you see?"

Signalman: "Where are your animals, then?"

Narrator: "Bashful looked back."

Bashful: "Why, bless me!"

Narrator: "He said."

Bashful: "If we haven't left them behind!"

Signalman: "Yes."

Narrator: "Said the signalman."

Signalman: "You'd better go back quickly and fetch them."

Narrator: "Poor Bashful was so sad, he nearly cried.

Bashful's Driver: "Cheer up."

Narrator: "Said his driver."

Bashful's Driver: "Let's go back quickly and try again."

Narrator: "At the station, all the passengers were talking at once. They were telling Walt Disney what a bad forest was. But when Bashful came back, they saw how sad he was, and couldn't be cross.

He held on to the animals, and this time he really pulled them.

Afterwards, the other dwarfs laughed at Bashful and said,"

Happy and Dopey: "Look, there's Bashful, who wanted to take some passengers, but forgot about the animals!"

Narrator: "But Bashful had already learned not to make the same mistake again."
