Domestic sewage combined with water generally produces an effluent or discharge that has a low toxicity. This effluent can be harmful to both plants and animals alike if it collects in the ground. If this effluent combines with ground water it can end up in drinking water. Wastes are unsanitary and hazardous to the health of those who drink it. If plants or animals come into contact with it, it can result in death because of viruses and bacterial poisoning.
