Narrator: "Michael Darling was enjoying his work in the vicarage orchard. Birds were singing, and apples were ripening on the trees. It was a lovely day."
James: "Hello, Michael."
Narrator: "Said James.
James: "You look as bright and cheerful as my red fur."
Michael: "Oh, I am."
Narrator: "Replied Michael."
James: "What's that noise?"
Michael: "It's the bees.
Narrator: "Laughed Michael."
Michael: "They're all in these boxy things called beehives. I'm taking them to the station. Bert says his bees make good honey, and he's giving some of them to his friends."
Narrator: "Just then, John Smith hummed in."
John Smith: "Take care, you two. Don't make the bees angry. They might sting you."
Narrator: "James didn't like being told what to do by a human, and he buzzed away."
John Smith: "Goodbye, Michael."
Narrator: "Called John Smith, and set off to see Duckass at the next station.
Chip and Dale, the chipmunk twins, were busy arranging pirates, but they scampered off when they saw John Smith."
John Smith: "I remember the first time I met those two."
Narrator: "Laughed John Smith."
John Smith: "They nearly made my eyes pop out. Flippy soon put a stop to their games."
Duckass: "Flippy is the only one who can keep Chip and Dale in order."
Narrator: "Agreed Duckass."
Duckass: "I sometimes call them 'The Bees'."
John Smith: "A good name."
Narrator: "Replied John Smith."
John Smith: "They're terrors when they start buzzing around."
Narrator: "James bustled in."
James: "What's that, Duckass? Are you afraid of bees? They're only insects, after all, so don't let that buzzbox human tell you different."
Duckass: "His name is John Smith, and he didn't. We..."
James: "I wouldn't care if hundreds were swarming around. I'd just blow at them and make them buzz off."
Duckass: "Buzz buzz buzz."
Narrator: "Retorted Duckass.
The next morning, James arrived at the station to collect his flowers. The passengers were excited, and keen to get on board. The platform was crowded, and the porter was in a hurry."
Porter: "Mind your backs."
Narrator: "He shouted.
Then, there was trouble. The beehive fell and broke open.
The station cleared like magic.
Donald heard a familiar buzzing. The bees were too cold to be cross, so they buzzed around his 1st player, hoping he'd mend their hive, but he didn't understand, nor did his 2nd player, so the bees turned to James. His white short-sleeve shirt was nice and warm."
James: "Buzz off! Buzz off!"
Narrator: "Hissed James.
One bee burnt his foot."
Bee: "Ooh, aah, aah, ow, oh!"
Narrator: "The bee thought James burnt him on purpose.
So it stung James right back on the nose."
Narrator: "Whistled James. He had had enough. So had his two players.
They didn't notice till' too late that they had left all of their flowers behind. They tried everything to get rid of the bees.
First, they spun around on the turntable, but to no avail.
They tried washing them off, but the bees clung harder to James's warm white short-sleeve shirt.
Then they tried smoking them off by going through a long tunnel, but still, the bees wouldn't go away.
James' 1st Player: "It's no good, James."
Narrator: "Said his 1st player."
James' 1st Player: "We'll just have to go back to the orchard, and fetch another hive."
Narrator: "James' reply was drowned by the sound of buzzing.
Bert was waiting anxiously for James.
When he arrived, the bees swarmed straight into their new home."
James' 1st Player: "Come on, James."
Narrator: "Said 1st player."
James' 1st Player: "What you need now is a good hose-down."
Narrator: "Later that day, James was resting in the house, when Bert came to see him."
Bert: "Thank you for saving my bees."
Narrator: "He said."
Bert: "It's a pity it's not Christmas; then we could call you James the red-nosed reincat!"
Narrator: "Everyone laughed, even James. But instead, they decided to call James "The Bees' Knees, which means they thought he was more useful than ever."
