Callan is a method of learning and teaching English that consists on repeating the same questions and answers. The pupils repeat the same material about 10 times throughout a short period of working. The teachers repeat the same material about a thousand times. The purpose of the method is to learn directly from spoken English, only by listenig and repeating. Therefore there is no pressure on learnig grammar. The meaning of the words is often limited only to the questions asked by the teacher. Therefore other meanings of the words or the words used in different context are incomprehensible for the pupils. What is more, they are not able to construct different sentences than the sentences from the book. Callan method is efficient only up to intermediate level and is aimed at people who have problems with quick lerning and are not creative.
