Christianity is the belief that Jesus of Nazareth, who lived in Jerusalem around the first century A.D., is the Son of God, as stated in the New Testament of the Bible. Christians further believe that Jesus died on a cross to pay the sins for humanity, and that He rose from the dead to conquer the devil. Thus, according to Christians, if one confesses one's sins and accepts Jesus as the Savior of his/her life, one will go to heaven when one dies.
Both Jews and Christians believe in the accuracy and validity of the Old Testament. Only Christians believe in the New Testament.
There are many denominations in Christianity due to arguments over the meanings of certain parts of the Bible. The denominations include Catholic and Protestant, and under Protestant, the subheadings of Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, Assemblies of God, and others.
Though many denominations exist, all Christians believe in the Godhood of Jesus Christ and the need for forgiveness of sins.
While some other faiths also use the Bible in their teaching, such as Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons, mainline Christianity does not accept them as other denominations, but views them as sects (or, in some cases, cults) because of radical interpretations of the Bible's text (that is, scripture) or because of the scriptural text having been reworked by those religions' founders.
