Definition

Civil Engineers are "people" engineers. They develop and design much of the essential infrastructure for our everyday lives, including large scale construction projects, transportation systems, water supply and waste disposal systems, industrial and commerical buildings, among other useful systems and structures.

Role for the Future

In addition to developing our future cities, civil engineers face the challenge of replacing our nation's aging infrastructure such as highways, airports, bridges, harbor facilities, and industrial complexes. They will use computer-aided design and computer models to build resilient and effective systems.

Civil and Environmental Engineering focuses on the effects of engineering on nature and the protection and consideration of the environment during civil engineering projects.

Concentration in Building Science

Joint Architecture-Engineering program involving building technology (site selection, building construction, etc) as well as building design (architectural and structural).

Concentration in Construction

Business aspects of engineering and work at a construction site are covered, preparing students for positions with companies involved in construction management, contracting, development, and public policy.
