  • (Another wheesh of steam appears)
  • Michael Brandon: But first, Sir Topham Hatt has a special for Percy.
  • (An engine puffing by sequence occurs and we begin Percy and The Oil Painting)
  • Michael Brandon: Percy and The Oil Painting. The Island of Sodor is a very special place. It has hills, and valleys, fields and forests. All of Sir Topham Hatt's engines love the Island of Sodor. One day, Sir Topham Hatt came to Tidmouth Sheds. He had splendid news.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The mayor has invited a famous artist to paint a picture called The Spirit of Sodor. It will be put on show at Knapford Station.
  • Michael Brandon: Boomed Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Percy, you must collect the artist at Brendam Docks and show him all the most beautiful places.
  • Percy: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Percy. Thomas was excited for his friend. But Percy was worried.
  • Percy: What's The Spirit of Sodor?
  • Michael Brandon: Asked Percy. Thomas thought...
  • Thomas: Everything that is special about the island.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Thomas: No one knows the island better than you.
  • Michael Brandon: He puffed.
  • Thomas: And no one loves it more than you. You're just the engine for the job.
  • Michael Brandon: Percy felt better. He would show the famous artist somewhere very special. Somewhere that was The Spirit of Sodor. When Percy arrived at Brendam, the docks were very crowded. Everyone wanted to see the famous artist. He had paper and an easel, he had lots of paints and bags of brushes. A long smock to keep his clothes clean and on his head he wear a big black beret. Percy thought he looked very important. The famous artist climbed on board Percy.
  • Famous Artist: I want to see The Spirit of Sodor.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Famous Artist: Please show me somewhere special.
  • Percy: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Percy happily. And he steamed out of the docks as fast as he could go. Percy puffed across the island.
  • Percy: Somewhere special, somewhere special.
  • Michael Brandon: He chuffed. At last, Percy came to Shen Valley. It was very beautiful.
  • Percy: There you are, sir!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Percy happily.
  • Percy: The Spirit of Sodor!
  • Michael Brandon: The famous artist had a very long look.
  • Famous Artist: Too green.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Famous Artist: I wanted to show me somewhere special.
  • Michael Brandon: Percy was surprised. He thought Shen Valley was very special. But the artist was very famous and very important.
  • Percy: Maybe Shen Valley isn't special after all.
  • Michael Brandon: Percy set off again. He would show the famous artist somewhere else special. Percy came to Norramby Beach. The sun was shining, children were playing in the sand. There was even a donkey giving rides. Percy was sure the famous artist would want to paint it.
  • Percy: There we are, sir!
  • Michael Brandon: He puffed.
  • Percy: All the children love Norramby Beach.
  • Michael Brandon: The famous artist looked at Norramby Beach. He held his paintbrush and beret.
  • Famous Artist: Hmm, the sand is too yellow.
  • Michael Brandon: He sighed.
  • Famous Artist: I wanted to show me somewhere special.
  • Michael Brandon: This upset Percy. He thought Norramby Beach was the most cheerful place on the island. He wanted to tell the famous artist he was wrong. But all he said was...
  • Percy: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: ...and set off sadly again. Percy took the artist to the viaduct. But the famous artist said...
  • Famous Artist: Too tall.
  • Michael Brandon: Then, Percy took him to the windmill.
  • Famous Artist: Too round.
  • Michael Brandon: Said the famous artist. Finally, Percy took the famous artist to Knapford Station. There were engines and coaches, porters and packages and loudest of all the happy noise of passengers coming aboard. Percy thought it was the most wonderful sight of all.
  • Percy: Here, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Percy proudly.
  • Percy: Isn't this The Spirit of Sodor?
  • Famous Artist: Too busy.
  • Michael Brandon: The famous artist sighed.
  • Famous Artist: Why, I do believe there is nothing special to paint on the island at all!
  • Michael Brandon: Percy was so cross his boiler bubbled. And he went as red as James. Gordon thought the artist was very rude.
  • Percy: Everywhere on Sodor is special.
  • Michael Brandon: Peeped Percy.
  • Percy: And so are the people and the children and the engines. They are all special. Then he wheeshed some steam. The steam blew the artist's hat into the air.
  • Famous Artist: I want to see Sir Topham Hatt right away.
  • Michael Brandon: The famous artist cried. Percy was sure he was in trouble now. Percy waited and waited. Sir Topham Hatt came to Knapford at once.
  • Famous Artist: I have found the perfect scene to paint.
  • Michael Brandon: Cried the famous artist.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: What is it?
  • Michael Brandon: Asked Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Famous Artist: I am going to paint Percy!
  • Percy: Bust my buffers!
  • Michael Brandon: Percy gasped.
  • Percy: You want to paint me!?
  • Famous Artist: Percy is artist, hard working and helpful. And he is not afraid to speak his mind. He is surely The Spirit of Sodor.
  • Michael Brandon: Said the famous artist. And Sir Topham Hatt agreed. And so the famous artist painted Percy. And on the night the painting was to be shown for the first time. All the engines were there. When the mayor pulled a port to show his picture, Percy gasped.
  • Thomas: I told you were the best engine for the job.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas smiled. And Percy smiled too. He was very proud to be The Spirit of Sodor.
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin a learning segment)
  • Michael Brandon: All the engines on Sodor are a bright bold color. But this engine has been working in the coaling plant today and is covered in coal dust. How can you tell who it is? This engine has a round face and boiler. Do all the engines have round faces? No. Toby and Salty have square faces. So it can't be either of them. What else can you see? This engine has a separate coal tender at the back. Do all the other engines have a separate coal tender? No. Thomas and Percy don't. So it can't be either of them. Now look at the engine's funnel. It's very tall. What about the other engines? Do they all have tall funnels? No. Gordon and Henry have short funnels. So it can't be either of them. Who's left? Edward and James. Edward and James both have round faces, separate coal tenders and tall funnels. It's time for this engine to have a wash down. What color can you see now? Red. So it can't be Edward. It must be James. Hello, James.
  • (James' whistle toots)
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin another learning segment)
  • Michael Brandon: All the engines love having a washdown. Doesn't Gordon look grand? His coat is gleaming in the sunlight. What color is Gordon? Yes, he's blue. Is Gordon the same color as Henry? No, Henry's green. But Edward is blue. Gordon and Edward are both blue. Here's Percy. He's having a washdown too. What color is Percy? Yes, he's green. Is Percy the same color as Toby? No, Toby is brown. But Henry is green. Percy and Henry are both green. Now here's James. He's feeling very special. What color is James? Yes, he's red. Is James the same color as Thomas? No, Thomas is blue. James is the brightest red engine on the island. That's why he's feeling so special. Who else on Sodor is red?
  • (Bertie's horn honks)
  • Michael Brandon: Yes, Bertie the bus. James and Bertie are both red. What a lot of beautiful colors there are on the Island of Sodor.
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin Thomas and The Rainbow)
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas and The Rainbow. Thomas has friends all over the Island of Sodor. Friends at Brendam Docks and friends at the farm. All of the engines are Thomas' friends. And so are all the children. One night, there had been a summer storm on the island. Sir Topham Hatt came to Tidmouth Sheds. He looked very serious.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: A strong wind has blown down the telephone lines.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Thomas, you must take the engineers to fix the telephone lines or it will cause confusion and delay.
  • Michael Brandon: He boomed.
  • Thomas: Yes, sir!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Thomas and he puffed away. Thomas arrived at Brendam Docks. The telephone engineers boarded Annie and Clarabel. Then Thomas noticed something in the sky. Thomas thought it was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
  • Thomas: Look at all the colors, Edward.
  • Michael Brandon: Gasped Thomas.
  • Thomas: Red and blue and yellow and green.
  • Edward: That's a rainbow.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Edward wisely.
  • Edward: An old story says you'll find something magical at the end of the rainbow.
  • Thomas: Something magical.
  • Michael Brandon: Gasped Thomas.
  • Thomas: That sounds wonderful. I must find the end of the rainbow right away.
  • Michael Brandon: And he wheeshed away as fast as he could. Thomas had to stop at a junction. The rainbow was overhead. Percy was already waiting.
  • Percy: Hello, Thomas.
  • Michael Brandon: Percy tooted cheerfully.
  • Thomas: Sorry.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas puffed.
  • Thomas: No time to talk. I have to find the end of the rainbow.
  • Michael Brandon: And he chuffed quickly away. Thomas puffed up Gordon's Hill. The end of the rainbow was just over the top. But when Thomas reached the top, the end of the rainbow had moved.
  • Thomas: Bother!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Thomas. Thomas had to let some engineers off at the bridge. He could see the rainbow up ahead. Children on the bridge waved at Thomas and called hello. Thomas just chuffed away.
  • Thomas: Sorry, no time to talk.
  • Michael Brandon: He puffed.
  • Thomas: I have to find the end of the rainbow.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas took the telephone engineers all across the island. Over the hills and through the valleys. All the time, he was looking forward for the end of the rainbow.
  • Thomas: Must find the end, must find the end.
  • Michael Brandon: He puffed. When Thomas passed Henry, Henry asked him for some help.
  • Thomas: Sorry.
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Thomas.
  • Thomas: I don't have time to stop. I'm looking for the end of the rainbow.
  • Michael Brandon: But the end of the rainbow was always just around the corner. Finally, Thomas past Toby.
  • Toby: Slow down, Thomas!
  • Michael Brandon: Toby cried.
  • Toby: There's something ahead on the tracks!
  • Michael Brandon: But Thomas wasn't listening. He was sure the end of the rainbow was just around the corner. But then there was trouble. Thomas hit the telegraph pole and they all came off the tracks. Luckily, no one was hurt.
  • Thomas: Cinders and Ashes!
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas cried. Thomas was stuck. His driver couldn't phone for help. The telephone lines were still not working. Then Thomas spotted Percy far away.
  • Thomas: Help!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Thomas.
  • Thomas: Percy, help!
  • Michael Brandon: And he whistled as loud as he could. Thomas watched sadly as Percy puffed away.
  • Thomas: Percy isn't talking to me because I didn't have time to talk to him.
  • Michael Brandon: Thought Thomas.
  • Thomas: I was too busy chasing the end of the rainbow.
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas know what was his fault. But Percy had heard Thomas' whistle. He knew Thomas was in trouble. And he was hurrying to get help.
  • Percy: Thomas is in trouble!
  • Michael Brandon: Percy called as he passed Henry. Then Henry told Bertie the Bus and Bertie told the children. The children told James, James told Harold the Helicopter and Harold the Helicopter told Harvey. Harvey set off right away. Harvey found Thomas in no time at all. Soon, he had them all back on the tracks.
  • Thomas: Thank you for rescuing us, Harvey.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Thomas. Harvey told Thomas have a message had been passed on.
  • Harvey: All of your friends have helped rescue you.
  • Michael Brandon: He said. Thomas was very happy indeed. Thomas puffed along. The rainbow was still in the sky. But Thomas didn't try to find the end of the rainbow. He worked as hard as he could until all the telephones will work again. As Thomas returned to Tidmouth Sheds, he was amazed to find the end of the rainbow. It was right over Tidmouth Sheds.
  • Thomas: The old story was right.
  • Michael Brandon: Gasped Thomas.
  • Thomas: There is something magical at the end of the rainbow. My friends. Friends are the most wonderful thing of all.
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin Engine Roll Call)
  • Children: (singing) They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight. Shunting trucks and hauling freight. Red and green and brown and blue. They're the really useful crew. All with different rows to play round Tidmouth Sheds or far away. Down the hills and round the bends, Thomas and his friends. Thomas - he's the cheeky one, James - is vain but lots of fun, Percy - pulls the mail on time, Gordon - thunders down the line, Emily - really knows her stuff, Henry - toots and huffs and puffs, Edward - wants to help and share, Toby - well let's say, he's square. They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight. Shunting trucks and hauling freight. Red and green and brown and blue. They're the really useful crew. All with different rows to play round Tidmouth Sheds or far away. Down the hills and round the bends, Thomas and his friends. They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight. • (We then see the engine countdown and we end the season)
  • (Upon this, we end with Thomas being ready for the evening)
  • (We then find the Season 8-10 end credits with Thomas looking at the credits)
  • (While they roll, the Thomas Season 8-10 end theme plays)
