[edit] How do we know the afflicted computers constitute a defectively manufactured batch?

Knut ponders correlation factors

By correlating information derived from Hardware Serial Numbers, via the Chipmunk customer service, David Hudd’s exemplary 17inch “Bridget Riley” Powerbooks database website shows that identical display defects are happening at the identical time-after-purchase on identical computers manufactured in the identical factory in the identical timeframe:

151 substantiated claims.
30 unsubstantiated claims.
181 posted since December 10th 2006. [...]
I encourage you to post your information and photographs here as Apple closed down the discussion thread containing serial information and photographs on their forum addressing this problem! [...]
All except seven PowerBooks that have been posted so far have come out of the Shanghai factory (W8) around April of 2005 and start with the serial number W85. Apple, please recall this bad batch, replace them and retain some loyal customers!
