Crab Elves are frequently seen as rough or crude by elves of other clans. They lack the refinery of even the Unicorns (who are dismissed as disciplined mongrels) - but the Crabs will counter that refinery is useless against the fell beings north of the Kaiu wall.
The average Crab elf is short but muscular, its warriors using their low center of gravity to make themselves harder to knock off-balance. Their skin is ruddy and leathery from exposure to hostile elements, and their hair is dark, often black. Despite their apparent coarseness, Crabs tend to be every bit as agile as most other elves; quick reflexes are needed in the harsh mountains and in Ikijigoku.

Crabs prefer to wear well-made (though not very decorative) wool clothing that can shield them against high winds and felstorms from the north, and which can be easily mended. To this end, yaks are kept, due to their hardy nature and the quantity and quallity of wool they produce. The elves of this clan eschew shiny jewelry or baubles, as they prefer not to wear anything that can catch on or be snatched by anything dangerous. If accessories are worn, they are usually made out of bone or ivory, carved and painted with designs rather than set with precious stones.
Even in the warmer months Crab elves tend to prefer boots to sandals, to protect their feet from unknown hazards.

The diet of Crab elves is more meat-heavy than that of most other Tamekirikese elves, consisting of wild game from the mountains and foothills, and fish from the coastal towns. Supplementing this are starchy vegetables like turnips and potatoes, and bread made from coarse flour. In many ways, the Crabs keep this diet for many of the same reasons their dwarven neighbors do - to keep up their endurance in the mountains.
