'Cuddles Gets Tricked'

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles is a rabbit, who lives in a big house in Mechafetus Land. He's a cheeky little rabbit with two fluffy ears, two pink cheeks, two pink slippers and a circled tummy. He's a fussy little rabbit too. Always pulling coaches about ready for the big characters can take on long journeys. And when trains come in, he pulls the empty coaches away so that the big engines can go on rest. Cuddles thinks no character works has hard as he does. He loves playing tricks on them, including Richard the biggest and proudest character of all. Cuddles likes to tease Richard with his whistle.

§  Cuddles: Wake up, lazybones. Why don't you work hard like me?

§  Ringo Starr: One day after pulling the big express, Richard had arrived back on the sidings very tired. He was just going to sleep when Cuddles came up in his cheeky way.

§  Cuddles: Wake up, lazybones. Do some hard work for a change. You can't catch me!

§  Ringo Starr: And off he ran laughing. Instead of going to sleep again, Richard thought how he can back at Cuddles. One morning, Cuddles wouldn't wake up. His driver and fireman couldn't make him start. His fire went out and there was not enough steam. It was nearly time for the express. People are waiting, but the coaches weren't ready. At last, Cuddles started.

§  Cuddles: Oh dear, oh dear!

§  Ringo Starr: He yawned. He fussed into the station where Richard was waiting.

§  Richard: Hurry up, you!

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard.

§  Cuddles: Hurry yourself.

§  Ringo Starr: Replied Cuddles. Richard the proud character began making his plan to teach Cuddles a lesson for teasing him. Almost before the coaches had stopped moving, Richard reversed quickly and was coupled to the train.

§  Richard: Get in quickly, please!

§  Ringo Starr: He whistled. Cuddles usually pushed behind the big trains to help them start, but he was always uncoupled first. This time, Richard start so quickly they forgot to uncouple Cuddles. Richard's chance had come.

§  Richard: Come on, come on!

§  Ringo Starr: Puffed Richard to the coaches. The train went faster and faster. Too fast for Cuddles, he wanted to stop, but he couldn't.

§  Cuddles: Peep peep! Stop, stop!

§  Richard: Hurry, hurry, hurry!

§  Ringo Starr: Laughed Richard.

§  Coaches: You can't get away, you can't get away!

§  Ringo Starr: Laughed the coaches. Poor Cuddles was going faster than he had ever gone before. He was out of breath and his feet hurt him, but he had to go on.

§  Cuddles: I shall never be the same again.

§  Ringo Starr: He thought sadly.

§  Cuddles: My feet will be quite worn out.

§  Ringo Starr: At last, they stopped at the station. Cuddles was uncoupled and he felt very silly and exhausted. Next he went on to the turntable thinking of everyone laughing at him. And then he ran on to a siding out of the way.

§  Richard: Well, little Cuddles.

§  Ringo Starr: Chuckled Richard.

§  Richard: Now you know what hard work means, don't you?

§  Ringo Starr: Poor Cuddles couldn't answer. He had no breath. He just puffed slowly away to rest and had a long long drink.

§  Cuddles: Maybe I don't have to tease Richard to feel important.

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles thought to himself. And he puffed slowly home.

'Henry Helps Out'

§  Ringo Starr: One day, Henry Stickmin was in the house where he lived with the other Mechafetus characters. They were all bigger than Henry and boasted about it.

§  Richard: The driver won't choose you again.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard.

§  Richard: He wants strong characters like us.

§  Ringo Starr: But the driver and fireman felt sorry for Henry.

§  Driver: Would you like to come out today?

§  Henry: Oh yes, please.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Henry. So they lit his fire, made lots of steam and Henry puff away. The other characters were very cross of being left behind. Henry worked hard all day. The coaches thought he was very kind and the driver was very pleased.

§  Henry: I'm going out again tomorrow.

§  Ringo Starr: Henry told the other characters that night.

§  Henry: What do you think at that?

§  Ringo Starr: But he didn't hear what they thought, for he was so tired and happy that he fell asleep at once. Next morning, Henry woke up to find nothing had change. Richard was still boasting.

§  Richard: You watch me, little Henry, as I rush through with the express. That will be a splendid sight for you. Goodbye, little Henry. Look out for me this afternoon.

§  Ringo Starr: Henry went off to do some shunting. He like shunting. It was fun playing with Monsters. He would come out quietly and gave them a push. Then he would stop, and the silly Monsters will go bump into the each other.

§  Monsters: Oh!

§  Ringo Starr: They cried.

§  Monsters: Whatever is happening?

§  Ringo Starr: Richard played till there were no more Monsters. Then he stopped to rest. Presently, he heard a whistle. Richard was very cross. Instead of pulling shiny new coaches, he was pulling a very dirty freight train.

§  Richard: A freight train, a freight train, a freight train!

§  Ringo Starr: He grumbled.

§  Richard: The shame of it, the shame of it, oh, the shame of it!

§  Ringo Starr: Henry laughed and went to find some more Monsters. Then, there was trouble.

§  Porter: Richard can't get up the hill.

§  Ringo Starr: The porter called to Henry's Driver.

§  Porter: Will you take Henry and push him please?

§  Ringo Starr: They found Richard halfway up, and very cross. His driver and fireman were talking to him severely.

§  Driver: You're not trying.

§  Richard: I can't do it!

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard.

§  Richard: The noisy Monsters hold a character back so!

§  Ringo Starr: Henry's driver came up.

§  Driver: We've come to push.

§  Richard: No use at all!

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard.

§  Driver: You wait and see.

§  Ringo Starr: Replied Henry's driver. They brought the train back to the bottom of the hill.

§  Henry: I'm ready.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Henry.

§  Richard: No good.

§  Ringo Starr: Grumbled Richard. They pulled and pushed as hard as they could.

§  Richard: I can't do it, I can't do it, I can't do it!

§  Ringo Starr: Puffed Richard.

§  Henry: I will do it, I will do it, I will do it!

§  Ringo Starr: Puffed Henry. Henry pushed and puffed and puffed and pushed as hard as ever he could. And almost before he realized it, Richard found himself at the top of the hill.

§  Richard: I've done it, I've done it, I've done it!

§  Ringo Starr: He said proudly. He forgot all about kind Henry and didn't say thank you. Henry was left out of breath and far behind, but he was happy because he had been so helpful. At the next station, he found that the driver and fireman were very pleased with him. The fireman gave him a nice long drink and the driver said...

§  Driver: I'll get out my paint tomorrow, and give you your beautiful coat of blue with red stripes, then you'll be the smartest character in the shed.

'Come Out Lumpy'

§  Ringo Starr: Once a character taking some cakedoggs was afraid of a few drops of rain. It went into a tunnel and squeaked through its funnel, and wouldn't come out again. The character's name is Lumpy. His driver and fireman argued with him, but he would not move.

§  Lumpy: The rain would spoil my lovely green paint and red stripes.

§  Ringo Starr: He said. The conductor blew his whistle till he had no more breath, and waved his flag till his arms ached, but Lumpy still stayed in the tunnel and blew steam at him.

§  Lumpy: I'm not going to spoil my lovely green paint and red stripes for you.

§  Ringo Starr: Then, along came Mr. Garrison, the man of charge of all the characters on Mechafetus Land.

§  Garrison: We will pull you out.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Garrison. But Lumpy only blew steam at him. Everyone pulled except Garrison.

§  Garrison: Because... (clears his throat)

§  Ringo Starr: He said.

§  Garrison: doctor has forbidden me to pull.

§  Ringo Starr: But still, Lumpy stayed in the tunnel. Then, they tried pushing from the other end. Garrison said...

§  Garrison: One, two, three, push!

§  Ringo Starr: ...but he didn't help.

§  Garrison: (clears his throat again) My doctor has forbidden me to push.

§  Ringo Starr: He said. They pushed, and pushed, and pushed, but still, Lumpy stayed in the tunnel. At last, Cuddles Rabbit came along. The conductor waved his red flag and stopped him. Everyone argued with Lumpy.

§  Everyone: Look, it has stopped raining.

§  Ringo Starr: They said.

§  Lumpy: Yes, but it will began again soon.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Lumpy.

§  Lumpy: And what will become with green paint with red stripes then?

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles pushed and puffed and pushed as hard as ever he could. But still Lumpy stayed in the tunnel. Eventually, even Mr. Garrison gave up.

§  Garrison: We shall take away your rails...

§  Ringo Starr: He said.

§  Garrison: ...and leave you here until you're ready to come out of the tunnel.

§  Ringo Starr: They took up the old rails, and built a wall in front of Lumpy, so the other characters wouldn't bump into him. All Lumpy could do was to watch the trains rushing through the other tunnel. He was very sad, because he thought no one would see his lovely green paint and red stripes again. As time went on, Henry and Richard would often pass by. Henry would say...

§  Henry: Peep, peep! Hello!

§  Ringo Starr: And Richard would say...

§  Richard: Boop, boop, boop! Serves you right!

§  Ringo Starr: Poor Lumpy had no steam to answer. His fire had gone out. Soot and dirt from the tunnel had spoilt his lovely green paint with red stripes anyway. How long do you think Lumpy would stay in the tunnel before he overcomes his fear of the rain, but then decides to journey out again?

'Lumpy To The Rescue'

§  Ringo Starr: Richard O always pulled the express cakedoggs. He was proud of being the only person strong enough to do so. It was full of important people like Mr. Garrison and Richard will see how fast he can go.

§  Richard: Hurry, hurry, hurry!

§  Ringo Starr: He said.

§  Coaches: Trickety-trock, trickety-trock, tricktey-trock!

§  Ringo Starr: Said the coaches. In a minute, Richard will see the tunnel where Lumpy stood bricked up and lonely.

§  Lumpy: Oh, dear. Why did I worried about rain spoiling my lovely coat of paint? I'd like to come out of the tunnel.

§  Ringo Starr: But Lumpy didn't know how to ask.

§  Richard: I'm going to boop boop at Lumpy.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard. He was almost there when... (Wheesh!) And there was proud Richard going slower and slower in a cloud of steam. His driver stopped the train.

§  Richard: What has happen to me?

§  Ringo Starr: Asked Richard.

§  Richard: I feel so weak.

§  Driver: You burst your safety valves.

§  Ringo Starr: Said the driver.

§  Driver: You can't pull the train anymore.

§  Richard: Oh dear.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard.

§  Richard: We were going so nicely too. And look, there's Lumpy laughing at me.

§  Ringo Starr: Everyone came to see Richard.

§  Garrison: Hmph.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Garrison.

§  Garrison: These big character are always causing me trouble. Send for another character at once.

§  Ringo Starr: While the conductor went to find one, they uncoupled Richard who had enough puff to slink on the siding out of the way. Henry was the only character left.

§  Henry: I'll come and try.

§  Ringo Starr: He said.

§  Richard: Hmph.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard.

§  Richard: That's no use. Henry can't push the train.

§  Ringo Starr: The kind Henry puffed and pushed and pushed and puffed but he couldn't move the heavy coaches.

§  Richard: I told you so.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Richard.

§  Richard: Why not let Lumpy try?

§  Garrison: Yes.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Garrison.

§  Garrison: I will. Will you help pull this train, Lumpy?

§  Ringo Starr: He asked.

§  Lumpy: Oh yes.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Lumpy. When Lumpy had got up steam, he puffed out. He was dirty and covered with cobwebs.

§  Lumpy: Ooh, I'm stiffed, I'm stiffed.

§  Ringo Starr: He groaned.

§  Garrison: Have a run to ease your joints and find a turntable.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Garrison. When Lumpy came back, he felt much better. Then they coupled him up.

§  Henry: Peep peep.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Henry.

§  Henry: I'm ready.

§  Lumpy: Peep peep peep.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Lumpy.

§  Lumpy: So am I. Pull hard, we'll do it! Pull hard, we'll do it!

§  Ringo Starr: They puffed together.

§  Henry: We've done it together! We've done it together!

§  Ringo Starr: Said Henry and Lumpy.

§  Coaches: You've done it hurray! You've done it hurray!

§  Ringo Starr: Sang the coaches. Everyone was excited. Mr. Garrison leaned out on the window to wave at Henry and Lumpy. But the train was going so fast, that his hat blew off into a field where a goat ate it for tea. They never stopped til they came to the station at the end of the line. The passengers all said thank you, and Mr. Garrison promised Lumpy a new coat of paint. One their way home, Henry and Lumpy helped Richard back to the shed. All three characters are now great friend. Lumpy doesn't mind the rain now. He knows that the best way to keep his paint nicely not to run into tunnels, but to ask his driver to rub him down when the day's work was over.

'A Big Day For Cuddles'

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles The Rabbit was grumbling to the other characters.

§  Cuddles: I spent my time pulling coaches about ready for you to take out on journeys.

§  Ringo Starr: The other characters laughed.

§  Cuddles: Why can't I pull passenger trains too?

§  Richard: You're too impatient.

§  Ringo Starr: They said.

§  Richard: You'd be sure to leave something behind.

§  Cuddles: Rubbish!

§  Ringo Starr: Said Cuddles.

§  Cuddles: I'll show you.

§  Ringo Starr: One night, he and Lumpy were alone. Lumpy was ill. The men worked hard, but he didn't get better. He felt just as bad next morning. Lumpy usually pull the first train and Cuddles had to get his coaches ready.

§  Cuddles: If Lumpy is ill.

§  Ringo Starr: He thought.

§  Cuddles: Perhaps I shall pull his train.

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles ran off to find the coaches.

§  Cuddles: Come along, come along.

§  Ringo Starr: He fussed.

§  Coaches: There's plenty of time, there's plenty of time!

§  Ringo Starr: They grumbled. Cuddles took them to the platform and wanted to run round at once. But his driver wouldn't let him.

§  Driver: Don't be impatient, Cuddles.

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles waited and waited. The people got in, the conductor and stationmaster walked up and down, the porter banged the doors and still Lumpy didn't come. Cuddles got more and more excited. Mr. Garrison came to see what was the matter, and the conductor and stationmaster told him about Lumpy.

§  Garrison: Find another character.

§  Ringo Starr: He ordered.

§  Both: There's only Cuddles.

§  Ringo Starr: They said.

§  Garrison: You'll have to do it then, Cuddles. Be quick now.

§  Ringo Starr: So Cuddles ran round to the front and back down on the coaches ready to start.

§  Driver: Let's not be impatient.

§  Ringo Starr: Said his driver.

§  Driver: We'll wait till everything was ready.

§  Ringo Starr: But Cuddles was too excited to listen. What happened then, no one knows. Perhaps they forgot to couple Cuddles to the train, or perhaps the Driver pulled the leather by mistake. Anyhow, Cuddles started without his coaches. As the pass the signal tower, men waved and shouted, but he didn't stop.

§  Cuddles: They're waving because I'm such a splendid rabbit.

§  Ringo Starr: He thought importantly.

§  Cuddles: Lumpy says it's hard to pull trains, but I think it's easy. Hurry, hurry, hurry!

§  Ringo Starr: He puffed, pretending to be like Richard.

§  Cuddles: People had never seen me pulling a train before. It's nice of them to wave.

§  Ringo Starr: And he whistled.

§  Cuddles: Peep peep! Thank you.

§  Ringo Starr: Then he came to a signal at danger.

§  Cuddles: Bother!

§  Ringo Starr: He thought.

§  Cuddles: I must stop, and I was going so nicely too. What a nuisance signals are.

§  Ringo Starr: He blew an angry "Peep peep!" on his whistle. The signalman ran up.

§  Signalman: Hello, Cuddles.

§  Ringo Starr: He said.

§  Signalman: What are you doing here?

§  Cuddles: I'm pulling the train.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Cuddles.

§  Cuddles: Can't you see?

§  Signalman: Where are your coaches then?

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles looked back.

§  Cuddles: Why bless me.

§  Ringo Starr: He said.

§  Cuddles: If we hadn't leave them behind.

§  Signalman: Yes.

§  Ringo Starr: Said the signalman.

§  Signalman: You better go quickly and fetch them.

§  Ringo Starr: Poor Cuddles was so sad he nearly cried.

§  Driver: Cheer up.

§  Ringo Starr: Said his driver.

§  Driver: Let's go back quickly and try again. At the station, all the passengers were talking at once. They were telling Mr. Garrison what a bad railway it was. But when Cuddles came back, they saw how sad he was and couldn't be cross. He was coupled to the train, and this time he really pulled it. Afterwards, the other characters laughed at Cuddles and said...

§  Lumpy: Look, there's Cuddles Rabbit, who wanted to pull the train, but forgot about the coaches.

§  Ringo Starr: But Cuddles had already learned, not to make the same mistake again.

'Trouble For Cuddles'

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles The Rabbit wouldn't stop being a nuisance. Night after night, he kept the other Mechafetus characters awake.

§  Cuddles: I'm tired of pushing coaches. I wanna see the world.

§  Ringo Starr: The other characters didn't take much notice, for Cuddles was a little rabbit with a long tongue. But one night, Henry Stickmin came to the shed. He was a kind little character and felt sorry for Cuddles.

§  Henry: I've got some Monsters to take home tomorrow. If you take them instead of me, I'll push coaches in the yard.

§  Cuddles: Thank you.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Cuddles.

§  Cuddles: That would be nice.

§  Ringo Starr: Next morning, Henry and Cuddles asked their drivers, and when they said "yes", Cuddles ran off happily to find Monsters. Now the Monsters were silly and noisy. They talked a lot and don't attend to what they are doing. And I'm sorry to say they play tricks on a character who is not used to them. Henry knew all about the Monsters. He warned Cuddles to be careful but Cuddles was too excited to listen. The shunter fastened the coupling and when the signal dropped, Cuddles was ready. The conductor blew his whistle.

§  Cuddles: Peep Peep.

§  Ringo Starr: Answered Cuddles and started off. But the Monsters weren't ready.

§  Monsters: Oh! Oh! Oh!

§  Ringo Starr: They screamed.

§  Monsters: Wait, Cuddles, wait!

§  Ringo Starr: But Cuddles wouldn't wait.

§  Cuddles: Come on come on.

§  Ringo Starr: He puffed.

§  Monsters: All right, all right, don't fuss! All right, don't fuss!

§  Ringo Starr: Grumbled the Monsters. Cuddles began going faster and faster.

§  Cuddles: Whee!

§  Ringo Starr: He whistled, as he rush through Lumpy's tunnel.

§  Cuddles: Hurry, hurry.

§  Ringo Starr: Called Cuddles. He was feeling very proud of himself. But the Monsters grew crosser and crosser. At last Cuddles slowed down as he came to Richard's Hill.

§  Driver: Steady, now, steady.

§  Ringo Starr: Warned the driver, as he reach the top. He began to put on the brakes.

§  Cuddles: We're stopping, we're stopping!

§  Ringo Starr: Called Cuddles.

§  Monsters: No, no, no!

§  Ringo Starr: Answered the Monsters bumping them to each other.

§  Monsters: Go on! Go on!

§  Ringo Starr: Before the driver could stop them they had pushed Cuddles down the hill and were rattling and laughing behind them. Poor Cuddles tried hard to stop them from making him go too fast.

§  Cuddles: Stop pushing, stop pushing!

§  Ringo Starr: He hissed. But the Monsters took no notice.

§  Monsters: Go on! Go on!

§  Ringo Starr: They giggled in their silly way.

§  Cuddles: There's the station! Oh dear, what shall I do?

§  Ringo Starr: He cried. They rattled straight through and swerved into the goods yard. Cuddles shut his eyes.

§  Cuddles: I must stop!

§  Ringo Starr: When he opened his eyes, he saw he had stopped just in front of the buffers. There watching him was Mr. Garrison.

§  Garrison: What are you doing here, Cuddles?

§  Ringo Starr: He asked.

§  Cuddles: I brought Henry's Monsters.

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles answered.

§  Garrison: Why did you come so fast?

§  Cuddles: I didn't mean to. I was pushed.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Cuddles.

§  Garrison: You've got a lot to learn about Monsters, Cuddles. After pushing them about here for a few weeks you'll know almost as much about them as Henry. Then you'll be a really useful rabbit.

'Cuddles Saves The Day'

§  Ringo Starr: Every day, Mr. Garrison came to the station to see the Mechafetus Characters.

§  Mr. Garrison: Hello.

§  Ringo Starr: He always said to Cuddles.

§  Mr. Garrison: Don't let the silly Monsters tease you. Remember, you have an important job as a special helper in the train yard.

§  Ringo Starr: There were lots of Monsters and Cuddles worked very hard pushing and pulling them into place. There was also a small coach and two strange things his driver called cranes.

§  Driver: That's the breakdown train.

§  Ringo Starr: He told Cuddles.

§  Driver: The cranes are for lifting heavy things like characters and coaches and Monsters.

§  Ringo Starr: One day, Cuddles was in the yard. Suddenly he heard a character whistling.

§  Daniel: Help! Help!

§  Ringo Starr: A freight train came rushing through much too fast. The character was Daniel and he was frightened. His brake blocks were on fire.

§  Daniel: They're pushing me, they're pushing me.

§  Ringo Starr: He panted.

§  Monsters: On! On!

§  Ringo Starr: Laughed the Monsters. Still whistling...

§  Daniel: Help! Help!

§  Ringo Starr: Poor Daniel disappeared.

§  Cuddles: I like to teach those Monsters a lesson.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Cuddles The Rabbit. Soon came the alarm.

§  Signalman: Daniel is off the line. The breakdown train quickly.

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles was coupled on and off they went. Cuddles worked his hardest.

§  Cuddles: Hurry, hurry, hurry!

§  Ringo Starr: He puffed. He wasn't pretending to be like Richard. He really meant it.

§  Cuddles: Bother those Monsters and their tricks. I hope poor Daniel isn't hurt.

§  Ringo Starr: Daniel's driver and fireman were feeling him all over to see if he was hurt.

§  (Cows mooing)

§  Driver: Never mind, Daniel.

§  Ringo Starr: They said.

§  Fireman: It was those silly Monsters and your old wooden brakes that caused the accident.

§  Ringo Starr: Cuddles pushed the breakdown train alongside. Then he pulled away the unhurt Monsters.

§  Monsters: Oh, dear. Oh, dear.

§  Ringo Starr: They groaned.

§  Cuddles: Serves you right, serves you right.

§  Ringo Starr: Puffed Cuddles. He was hard at work puffing backwards and forwards all afternoon.

§  Cuddles: This'll teach you a lesson, this'll teach you a lesson.

§  Ringo Starr: He told the Monsters. And they answered...

§  Monsters: Yes it will, yes it will.

§  Ringo Starr: They left the broken Monsters. Then with two cranes they put Daniel back on the rails. He tried to move, but he couldn't so Cuddles helped him back to the shed. Mr. Garrison was waiting anxiously for them.

§  Garrison: Well, Cuddles Rabbit.

§  Ringo Starr: He said.

§  Garrison: I heard all about it and I'm very pleased with you. You're a really useful rabbit. Daniel shall have some proper brakes and a new coat of paint and you shall have a branch line all to yourself.

§  Cuddles: Oh thank you sir.

§  Ringo Starr: Said Cuddles. Now Cuddles is as happy as can be. He has a branch line and two girls called Meowy and Pups. He puffs proudly backwards and forwards with them all day. He is never lonely. Henry and Lumpy stop quite often and tell him the news. Richard is always in a hurry but never forgets to say...

§  Richard: Boop Boop.

§  Ringo Starr: And Cuddles always whistles...

§  Cuddles: Peep Peep.

§  Ringo Starr: In return.
