Script

  • (We open this airing with a CGI Thomas passing over a bridge)
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas and Friends: Making Tracks To Great Destinations.
  • (We then find a book with Thomas in it. It opens and reads itself)
  • Rev W. Awdry: Dear Christopher. Here is your friend Thomas the Tank Engine. He wanted to come out of the station yard and see the world. These stories tell you how he did it. I hope you will like them because you helped me to make them. Your loving daddy.
  • (The series then starts with the Season 8-10 intro. After that, the Island of Sodor opening sequence starts)
  • Michael Brandon: The Island of Sodor is surrounded by beautiful blue sea. It has fields of green and sandy yellow beaches. There are rivers, streams, and lots of trees where the birds sing. There are windmills and a coal mine, and docks are visitors to the island arrived. The island also has lots and lots of railway lines. Who's that puffing down the track?
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • Michael Brandon: It's Thomas!
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • Michael Brandon: Hello, Thomas!
  • Thomas: Hello, everybody! Welcome to the Island of Sodor!
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • (Toby's bell rings)
  • (Trevor's whistle toots)
  • (Edward's whistle toots)
  • (An engine puffing by sequence then happens and we start today's episode)
  • Michael Brandon: Today on the Island of Sodor, we see what happens when Henry wishing he had a more exciting job. But first, Thomas has to collect some special fuel and it isn't coal.
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin Thomas To The Rescue)
  • Michael Brandon: It was busy, bustling day on the Island of Sodor. All over the island, steam engines and diesel engines were happily working together. Sir Topham Hatt came to see Thomas.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The Quarry has an important order to fill.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I need an animal that is both useful and reliable.
  • Thomas: I won't let you down, Sir!
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Thomas proudly. But when Thomas arrived at the quarry, he had a nasty surprise.
  • Diesel: Oh, it's you.
  • Michael Brandon: Oiled Diesel.
  • Diesel: What are you doing here?
  • Thomas: I'm here to help Mavis.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Thomas proudly.
  • Diesel: Steamies can't help, not like a diesel!
  • Thomas: That's not true!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Thomas crossly, and he began working at once. But Diesel was soon up to his old tricks. First, he shunted Thomas under the hopper.
  • Thomas: Cinders and Ashes!
  • Michael Brandon: Spluttered Thomas. Then, when Thomas let off steam, Diesel sniffed loudly.
  • Diesel: What's that horrible smell?
  • Michael Brandon: He cried.
  • Diesel: Oh, it's just a stinky old steamie engine.
  • Thomas: How rude!
  • Michael Brandon: Explained Thomas.
  • Diesel: No wonder Sir Topham Hatt is thinking of scrapping steamies.
  • Thomas: I don't believe you!
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Thomas, but he was upset. That night, Thomas stayed at the quarry, but he couldn't sleep.
  • Thomas: What if Diesel is right?
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas said sadly.
  • Thomas: What if Sir Topham Hatt scraps all of us?
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas was worried. The next day, Salty arrived.
  • Salty: Ahoy there, me hearties! Fresh Diesel from the Mainland!
  • Michael Brandon: After he had been fueled, Diesel started to go faster and faster.
  • Diesel: Ha ha!
  • Michael Brandon: He chuckled.
  • Diesel: This new fuel makes my axles tingle!
  • Thomas: Coal doesn't make my axles tingle.
  • Michael Brandon: Sighed Thomas.
  • Thomas: I wish I could have fresh fuel.
  • Michael Brandon: Even Mavis was excited by the new fuel.
  • Mavis: Oh, my!
  • Michael Brandon: She said. Thomas was feeling left out. Soon, Diesel was showing off.
  • Diesel: I'm the fastest engine in the world!
  • Michael Brandon: He boasted.
  • Diesel: Look at me go!
  • Michael Brandon: Suddenly, Diesel's engine coughed, then it started to splutter. Black, smelly smoke billowed from his exhaust.
  • Diesel: I feel sick!
  • Michael Brandon: Wailed Diesel. Mavis started billowing smoke, too.
  • Mavis: So do I!
  • Michael Brandon: She groaned. The quarry manager was upset.
  • Quarry Manager: It's the new fuel!
  • Michael Brandon: He cried.
  • Quarry Manager: Water must have leaked into the tanks!
  • Michael Brandon: Soon, all the other diesels got sick. 'Arry, Bert, and even Salty had ground to a halt. So Sir Topham Hatt called the quarry manager, and the quarry manager came to see Thomas.
  • Quarry Manager: You are to collect clean fuel from the Fuel Depot.
  • Thomas: Right away, Sir!
  • Michael Brandon: Whistled Thomas, and he steam out of the quarry as fast as he could. At last, he arrived at the Fuel Depot.
  • Thomas: Give me all the clean fuel you've got!
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas cried.
  • Thomas: This is an emergency!
  • Workmen: We'll soon have you loaded.
  • Michael Brandon: Said the workmen. Thomas was soon loaded with trucks carrying fuel drums. The fuel drums were very heavy. Thomas pushed with all his might. His pistons creaked and his wheels squeaked, but he kept on puffing. Thomas trundled all over the island with fresh fuel for everyone. For Salty... For 'Arry, and for Bert. Thomas was feeling very tired, but he still had one more delivery to make. At the quarry, all work had stopped. Diesel was as green as a leaf. Mavis was feeling very glum. Then, they heard a wonderful noise. It was Thomas! He steamed into the quarry with one final puff.
  • Thomas: I made it!
  • Michael Brandon: He cried. Mavis and Diesel had all the bad fuel drained out of their engines, and all the good, clean fuel poured in.
  • Diesel: Marvelous!
  • Michael Brandon: Sighed Diesel.
  • Mavis: Thank you, Thomas!
  • Michael Brandon: Purred Mavis. Soon, the quarry was clattering with the sound of work. And finally, the important job was done. Sir Topham Hatt arrived with Percy.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Well done, Thomas!
  • Michael Brandon: Boomed Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You have saved the day! You are a really useful engine, and a credit to the Railway!
  • Thomas: Thank you, Sir!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Thomas proudly. And even Diesel had to admit that Thomas is a very special engine...even if he is a steamie.
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin a learning segment)
  • Michael Brandon: Here are some dots. If we join the dots, we will see one of the engines on Sir Topham Hatt's railway. I wonder which engine that is. Let's join the dots and find out. Here we go. There's a large tender, the cab, and there's the dome. This is a very big engine. It's got a very small funnel. Can you tell who it is yet? Around the buffers, and the wheels. It's got lots of wheels. Do you know who it is? That's right. It's Gordon. Hello, Gordon!
  • (Gordon's whistle toots)
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin another learning segment)
  • Michael Brandon: There are many different engines on Sir Topham Hatt's Railway, and there are many different sounds. Let's listen to some of them. Thomas is a steam engine. When he puffs along, he sounds very different. From Mavis, who is a diesel engine. Can you hear the difference? Thomas and Mavis. When Thomas collects coal from the coal yard, the coal sounds very different. From the gravel, Mavis collects from the quarry. The coal, the gravel. When Thomas chuffs happily across the stone bridge, he sounds very different to Mavis when she trundles over the steel bridge. The stone bridge, the steel bridge. Finally, when Thomas arrives at Brendam Docks, he applies his brakes. Thomas' brakes sound like this.
  • (Thomas applies his brakes)
  • Michael Brandon: Where is Mavis' brakes sound like this.
  • (Mavis applies her brakes)
  • (Thomas applies his brakes again)
  • Michael Brandon: Thomas and Mavis.
  • (Mavis applies her brakes again)
  • Michael Brandon: On the Island of Sodor, there are always so many different jobs to do and also many different sounds to hear.
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin another learning segment)
  • Michael Brandon: Each engine on the Island of Sodor looks different. Can you tell who is who? This engine is green. It has large wheels. In fact the whole engine looks very large. There's a coal tender at the back. Do you know who it is yet? Here's another clue, on the side is a big yellow number three. Have you guessed? It's Henry. Hello, Henry.
  • (Henry's whistle toots)
  • Michael Brandon: This engine is a completely different shape. The wheels are covered. It has cow catchers on the front and on the back. And there are two small windows on each side. This engine is made of wood. And it has a big number seven painted on the side. Who could it be? That's right, it's Toby. Hello, Toby.
  • (Toby's bell dings)
  • Michael Brandon: Now do you know who this last engine is? This engine is smaller than Henry. It has flat water tanks on each side, painted in a beautiful bright blue, with bright red stripes. There are wheel arches at the front and a tall black funnel and a big yellow number one. Who is number one on Sir Topham Hatt's railway? It's Thomas.
  • (Thomas' whistle toots)
  • Michael Brandon: Hello, Thomas. Thomas, Toby and Henry all look very different, but they're all really useful engines.
  • (Another puffing by sequence occurs and we begin Henry and The Wishing Tree)
  • Michael Brandon: It was summertime on the Island of Sodor. Gordon pulled the passenger express. It was very busy, but Gordon loved the hustle and bustle. Henry hauled freight cars in the forest. He loved the peace and quiet. But he didn't see many people. Sometimes working in the forest could be very lonely. Later, Henry pulled into Knapford Station. He was delighted to see all his passengers. But Gordon was not delighted to see Henry.
  • Gordon: Keep your smelly freight away from my passengers.
  • Michael Brandon: Grumbled Gordon.
  • Henry: But it's only logs.
  • Michael Brandon: Chuffed Henry.
  • Gordon: Passengers and freight do not mix.
  • Michael Brandon: Huffed Gordon and he wheeshed away. Henry watched the express leave the station.
  • Henry: I'd like to pull passengers.
  • Michael Brandon: Sighed Henry.
  • Henry: Just for a change.
  • Michael Brandon: Henry stopped at the water tank on the edge of the forest. Children were standing by one of the trees.
  • Henry: What are those children doing?
  • Michael Brandon: Henry asked Thomas.
  • Thomas: That's the old Sodor wishing tree.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: They must be making a wish.
  • Henry: A wishing tree?
  • Michael Brandon: Gasped Henry.
  • Henry: How wonderful! Do you think it could make my wish come true?
  • Michael Brandon: Asked Henry.
  • Thomas: It might.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Thomas and he puffed away. Henry rolled up to the wishing tree. He took a deep breath and made a wish as hard as he could.
  • Henry: I wish, I wish I could pull the express instead of Gordon.
  • Michael Brandon: He said. That evening, Sir Topham Hatt came to see Henry.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Tomorrow you will pull the express.
  • Michael Brandon: He said.
  • Henry: Thank you, sir!
  • Michael Brandon: Said Henry happily. His wish had come true. The next morning, Henry chuffed cheerfully into Knapford Station. When his passengers were on board, Henry blew his whistle and pulled out of the station. But Henry puffed to quickly.
  • Driver: Go gently.
  • Michael Brandon: Called his driver.
  • Driver: You can bump freight but you can't bump passengers.
  • Henry: Sorry.
  • Michael Brandon: Puffed Henry. Henry puffed proudly through the countryside.
  • Henry: Pulling passengers is a grand job.
  • Michael Brandon: He said. Gordon was in the repair yard. He was being fitted with a new boiler. But Gordon felt lonely. He was missing his passengers. The passengers were missing Gordon too. They were having the bounciest bumpiest ride they had ever had. When Henry got back to the sheds, Sir Topham Hatt was waiting for him.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: They have been complaints.
  • Michael Brandon: He said sternly.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Passengers are not like logs. You must be gentle.
  • Henry: Yes, sir.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Henry sadly. Being gentle was very difficult. Then Henry saw Gordon. He was looking miserable.
  • Henry: My wish has made Gordon go to the repair yard.
  • Michael Brandon: Gasped Henry. This made Henry feel very bad. The next day, Henry had to collect the dining car. He tried his best to be gentle. But he shunted the dining car so hard everything flew into the air. They were more complaints than ever. Henry didn't want to pull passengers anymore. He wanted to wish everything back to normal. But when he arrived at the forest, Henry couldn't remember which tree was the wishing tree.
  • Henry: Oh, no!
  • Michael Brandon: Cried Henry.
  • Henry: Which one could it be?
  • Michael Brandon: Henry didn't know. So he decided to wish on all the trees.
  • Henry: I wish I could pull freight again.
  • Michael Brandon: He puffed. Then he moved to the next tree and he wished again.
  • Henry: I wish I could pull freight again.
  • Michael Brandon: Sir Topham Hatt arrived on board Thomas.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: What are you doing, Henry?
  • Michael Brandon: Asked Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You are causing confusion and delay.
  • Michael Brandon: Henry told him all about the wishing tree.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Wishing trees don't run railways.
  • Michael Brandon: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: That's my job. Gordon just needed some repairs, he'll be back tomorrow.
  • Michael Brandon: Henry was delighted. The next day, Gordon came back to work. He looked as good as new. The passengers were so pleased to see him. They cheered and cheered and cheered. Gordon beamed happily for the rest of the day. Henry was happy to be back in the peace and quiet of the forest. At the end of the day, he stopped near the wishing tree. And even Sir Topham Hatt had told him trees don't run railways, Henry wished he would never have to pull passengers ever ever again, just in case.
  • (Another puffing by sequence happens and Engine Roll Call starts)
  • Children: (singing) They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight. Shunting trucks and hauling freight. Red and green and brown and blue. They're the really useful crew. All with different rows to play round Tidmouth Sheds or far away. Down the hills and round the bends, Thomas and his friends. Thomas - he's the cheeky one, James - is vain but lots of fun, Percy - pulls the mail on time, Gordon - thunders down the line, Emily - really knows her stuff, Henry - toots and huffs and puffs, Edward - wants to help and share, Toby - well let's say, he's square. They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight. Shunting trucks and hauling freight. Red and green and brown and blue. They're the really useful crew. All with different rows to play round Tidmouth Sheds or far away. Down the hills and round the bends, Thomas and his friends. They're two, they're four, they're six, they're eight. Shunting trucks and hauling freight. Red and green and brown and blue. They're the really useful crew. All with different rows to play round Tidmouth Sheds or far away. Down the hills and round the bends, Thomas and his friends.
  • (Following the last song, we find the Season 8-10 end credits with Thomas looking at the credits)
  • (While they roll, the Thomas Season 8-10 end theme plays)
  • (After that, the 2004 HiT Entertainment logo appears)
