Duellist
From Scratchpad
The Duelist is a Kit for the Fighter. Strikingly similar to the Swashbuckler though with half the THAC0 & damage bonuses and weapon specialization instead of thieving abilities, the Duelist's power seems to lie in speed and High-Level Abilities. The armor restriction is virtually meaningless, as there are studded leather armors with AC 1 and the highest AC on any non-Drow armor is -2. At level 15 the Duelist equals this already, from level 20 on she surpasses it. Using a shield the character can get an armor class beyond that of normal Fighters while also striking faster, harder and more accurate. Compared to the Swashbuckler, the higher weapon speed, greater amount of Hit Points and the availability of Greater Whirlwind easily make the Duelist the more powerful melee class.

[edit] Description
The Duelist is the happy-go-lucky hero with the ready wit and the flashing rapier. He's happiest when he's in the big city, but can be an imposing warrior anywhere-enemies often underestimate him because of his charming manners and don't realize that he can hold his own in the melee as well as anyone else. Attacking with a trademark speed and grace, the Duelist's agility makes up for their disdain for heavy armor or large weapons. The Duelist, because he's bright and well-spoken, often becomes party leader... or at least the leader's spokesman.
[edit] Primary Attribute (s):
- Strength (9)
[edit] Class Abilities
- D10 Hit Points.
- Additional bonus Hit Points for Constitution above 14.
[edit] Kit Abilities
- +1 speed factor, THAC0 and damage per 10 levels.
- +1 armor class per 5 levels.
[edit] Restrictions
- Grand Mastery may only be attained using single-handed, bladed weapons. All other weapons, and the Two-Handed Weapon fighting style, are limited to one proficiency point.
- May not wear armor heavier than studded leather.
[edit] Dual-classing
As with the Kensai, dual-classing to a Thief or Mage seems logical. A Duellist/Thief would have a good AC even before the Thief gets Use Any Item at Level 24. Also, and this goes especially for BGTutu, Duellists can use missile weapons.
[edit] Notes
Part of the Sword and Fist mod.
