11.4.07[]

We have a new room. Starting on 11.4.07 we will move to room 325. This room is located in the Family Life Center (the building adjacent to the Sanctuary). The third floor is the same floor where children activities are located. If you come into the church through the Family Life Hall Lobby, continue up to the third floor and take a left out of the elevator and the room is down that hall on the right.

Don't forget our Social Gathering at the Harper's. The address is 1370 Mountain Park Drive, Kennesaw 30152 (for those of you using MapQuest). We will cook out hamburgers, so bring a dish to share.

Please RSVP to Jeanine (sjkec@aol.com) to let us know you can make it and what you'd like to bring. If you need directions to our house, e-mail or call (770-427-4222).

We will take up Chapter 6 of Sex God this Sunday. Who in you life is worth dying for?

10.28.07[]

As we read the book Sex God, we realize that Redbook or Cosmo has more to say about sex (the act) than our book. To put things into perspective, for the sake of our conversation and study:

SEXUALITY: -God illustrates by means of human sexuality his faithful covenant love for Israel and her infidelity. -The way the phrase "to make love" is used in our society it might rather show some of the emptiness of trying to invent love for a parnter for whom there is not such a consistent investment in love-generating and with whom there is no protective framework of covenant promising. -Sexuality is a condition, not an act -Sexuality is about being in right relationship to God and therefore in right relationship to those around us. -Sexuality is about our awareness oh how profoundly we're severed and cut off and disconnected (and how we choose to respond), and it is about all the ways we go about trying to reconnect. -Sexualtiy is how we express ourselves as creaures reflecting the image of God.

Icebreaker for the week: When was the last time your heart was broken?

10.14.07[]

Skip will lead discussion of Sex God, Chapter 3. What are people talking about when they say: "I'm only human." What if we start thinking in terms of "I'm fully human"? How does that tie into our past discussions about sexuality as part of all of our relationships? Hope you can discover more about your and our faith this Sunday.

9.30.07[]

Last week we spoke about the dangers of objectifying groups of people and the power of learning to love people individually and what happens when you develop genuine relationships with others. Adultery, attempting to "save" broad groups of people, and "checking out chicks" in the school hallway or at the construction site are ways we dehumanize people and rob them of their humanity. For 10.7.07, we'll take up Chapter 2 of Sex God by Rob Bell. How do we live out our connection to the Earth? With each other? With ourselves? For many, sexuality is simply what happens between two people involving physical pleasure. But that's only a small percentage of what sexuality is. Our sexuality is all of the ways we strive to reconnect with our world, with each other, and God.

Share your thoughts, ideas, and questions from Chapter 2[]

I really never thought of sexuality as being a part of all our relationships to one another and community.

9.23.07[]

Last week we began our study of Sex God, a book by Rob Bell which explores the connection between our spirituality and our sexuality. The story of Jacob and Esau provided the context for us to understand how to respond to the question: who are you. How do we express ourselves creatively and build authentic relationships among others in a way that allows us to live out of an authentic faith. How can we offer ourselves as part of God's plan to reconcile and redeem the world through and to his love and grace?

How do you as an individual and as a family express yourself?[]

Cooking: a great way to get creative and express your family history and share it with your children and one another- share the story of the food as well as the food itself

Blogging, Facebooking, Myspacing- how can these outlets be engaged creatively and with integrity while maintaining safety and and allowing our children and each other to express themselves?

Playing games- Must be something to the family that plays together stays together. Cards, boardgames, and charades are a great venue of creativity

Music- if you want to play everyday, learn music- singing or playing an instrument- join a choir or sing along on Sunday Mornngs- ability not necessary, but fun to develop

Gardening- even if you grow flowers for bouquets, it's a great way to say who you are and engage in your connection to the earth

Meal time- making a point of sitting down together to enjoy a meal and sharing your stories of the day is a great way to express yourself and allows others to do the same.

How do you express who you are?

Looking ahead: 9.30.07[]

This week, we'll answer the burning question: Does God Wear Lipstick? From Sex God, p. 18 In 1945, a group of British soldiers liberated a German concentration camp called Bergen-Belsen. One of them, Lt. Colonel Mercin Willet Gonin DSO, wrote in his diary about what they encountered:

I can give no adequate description of the Horror Camp in which my men and myself were to spend the next month of our lives. It was just a barren wilderness, as bare as a chicken run. Corpses lay everywhere, aome in huge piles, sometimes they lay singly or in pairs where they had fallen. It took a little tiem to get used to seeing men, women, and children collapse as you walked by them.. One knew that five hundred a day were dying and that five hundred a day were going on dying for weeks before anything we could do would have the slightest effect. It was, however, not easy to watch a child choking to death from diphtheria when you knew a tacheotomy and nursing would save it. One saw women drowning in their own vomit because they were too weak to turn over, men eating worms as they clutched a half loaf of bread purely because they had to eat worms to live and now could scarcely tell the difference. Piles of corpeses, naked and obsecen, with a woman too weak to stand propping herself against them as she cooked the food we had given her over an open fire; men and women crouching down just anywhere in the open relieving themselves.. [a] dysentery tank in which the remains of a child floated.
