Narrator: George the Steamroller has lived on the Island of Sodor for several years, but he still tends to be rude to the engines and tries to get them into trouble when he gets a chance. He's also always determined to prove that the roads are much better than the railways.

One day, Thomas arrived at Ffarquhar with some trucks. He was shunting them into a siding when George pulled up.

George: Hi Thomas.

Thomas: Oh no, not you again. What do you want?

George: I've got a message for you, from Farmer McColl.

Thomas: What did he say?

George: He's going to sea tomorrow, so he wants you to drive over to his farm and collect all his trucks of vegetables, and take them to the Transfer Yards.

Thomas: I'll go right away. But what do I do with the trucks when I get there?

George: Just leave them for Mr. Percival and his family to collect. And next week, Farmer McColl will pay your driver and fireman, £7 each.

Thomas: Thanks George. That should make my driver and fireman a fortune.

(As Thomas puffs out of Ffarquahar, George sniggers to himself)

Narrator: Thomas hurried up to Farmer McColl's farm. When he arrived, he couldn't see Farmer McColl anywhere, but he did find the trucks of vegetables by the platform. There were trucks loaded with carrots, turnips, potatoes, swedes, onions, corn and peas. Thomas' driver coupled Thomas up to the trucks, and Thomas puffed away.

Thomas: Trucks of vegetables coming through!

Narrator: When Thomas arrived at the Transfer Yards, Mr. Percival was surprised to see him.

Thomas: These vegetables are for you and your family, Mr. Percival.

Mr. Percival: Um, thank you, Thomas.

Narrator: Thomas felt very proud of himself.

Thomas: Farmer McColl will be proud of me and my crew now.

Thomas' Driver: I'm sure he will, Thomas.

Narrator: Thomas arrived safely back at Tidmouth Sheds, looking forward to a rest. He was about to go into his berth, when Sir Topham Hatt's car appeared. Out stepped Sir Topham Hatt and Farmer McColl, both looking very cross.

Thomas: What's the matter, sir? You both look very cross.

Sir Topham Hatt: We are cross, Thomas. And we want to know what you've been up to today.

Thomas: I don't know, sir. Tell me.

Farmer McColl: Did you, or did you not, go to my farm today?

Thomas: Yes I did.

Sir Topham Hatt: And did you steal seven trucks of vegetables from Farmer McColl's platform?

Thomas: I didn't steal the trucks. I was asked to collect them.

Sir Topham Hatt: Well, my mother saw you drive along the line with a load of trucks, while waiting for Bertie to pick her up, then she told him, and Bertie told me.

Farmer McColl: What have you done with my trucks, Thomas? Are they here?

Thomas: I've heard enough. You can't accuse me of being a thief. George gave me the message to collect the trucks. He told me Farmer McColl wanted me to move the trucks.

Sir Topham Hatt: I don't believe you, Thomas. The point I'm making is you took the trucks of vegetables, and you're to blame.

Farmer McColl: Also, I was going to sell those trucks at the market, and I saw you drive away with them. I was in my barn feeding my cows when you arrived, and when I came out, I saw you puffing away with the trucks.

Sir Topham Hatt: So, I'm afraid your driver and fireman must pay Farmer McColl a total of £30 each for the trucks, Thomas. Farmer McColl's got to go to sea tomorrow, and he wants the money. He can't sell his trucks of vegetables now because they're gone. And if he isn't paid, your crew will have to go to jail for the night.

Narrator: So the driver and firemen had to give up every penny out of their moneyboxes to Farmer McColl.

Thomas' Fireman: We're sorry about everything, Farmer McColl. Here's the money we owe you.

Farmer McColl: Thank you.

Narrator: Then Farmer McColl and Sir Topham Hatt left. Thomas felt so bad that he didn't sleep a wink that night. He also felt foolish for believing to George's lie. Throughout the whole night and all of the next day, Thomas kept thinking ways to get back at George. By evening, he had the perfect idea. Once his work was done for the day, Thomas puffed over to George's shed where the green steamroller was sleeping.

(Thomas whistles)

George: What? Who's whistling?

Thomas: It's me, George.

George: Oh, Thomas, did you delivered Farmer McColl's train of vegetable?

Thomas: George, if you don't confess to Sir Topham Hatt that you tricked me about the vegetables, I'm taking you to the Smelter's yard!

George: No! Please don't take me to be scrapped!

Thomas: My crew could have gone to prison because of you! They had to give up every penny out of their moneyboxes for your nasty joke!

George: I didn't mean for that happen. I just thought Sir Topham Hatt and Farmer McColl would be cross with you and you'd be punished.

Thomas: Come with me to Knapford now!

George: Okay, okay, I'll come.

Narrator: So Thomas took George to Knapford station, and told Sir Topham Hatt everything.

George: And when Thomas told me what had happened to his crew, I actually started to feel bad because I didn't mean for that happened.

Sir Topham Hatt: George, you have cause a lot of confusion and delay! What do you have to say to Thomas and his crew?

George: I'm sorry. I know it was wrong to trick Thomas like that. I want you to know that I'm ready for whatever punishment you think is fair.

Sir Topham Hatt: Hmm... Well George, you will work on Farmer McColl's farm for a month. After that, you will help Miss Jenny and the Sodor Construction Company for a while. Maybe the construction machines can teach you about being kind to others.

George: Yes, sir.

Sir Topham Hatt: Thomas, I'm sorry I didn't listen to you before. To makeup for it, you shall have a new coat of paint, and I'll pay your crew extra this week.

Thomas: Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.

Narrator: So George helped Farmer McColl on his farm.

George: Good morning, Farmer McColl.

Farmer McColl: I heard about your trick on Thomas about my vegetables, and I was very cross when I found out it was you, and I also felt bad for accusing Thomas. And now I have to re-plant my vegetables.

George: I know, and I'm sorry. But I'm helping you out on your farm as part of my punishment.

Farmer McColl: Well, okay, but no more of your tricks.

George: Yes, Farmer McColl.

Narrator: George is no longer grumpy and rude to the engines.

George: Good morning, Thomas!

(Thomas says nothing in return)

Narrator: But he knows that it's going to take time for the engines to trust him.
