Transcript

  • George Carlin: It was a special holiday on the Island of Sodor. Alfie the Excavator was working harder than ever before. All the engines were busy too. Freddie was waiting for his next journey. Near him stood a green steamroller. But he didn't look friendly like Alfie. The steamroller growled as he gazed at the happy passengers.
  • George: Stupid nonsense.
  • George Carlin: He grumbled.
  • George: I wouldn't have brought them if I've known. I did have a breakdown or something.
  • Freddie: I'm glad you didn't.
  • George Carlin: Smiled Freddie.
  • Freddie: You had spoiled their fun.
  • George: Bah! Enjoyment is all you engines lived for. One day railways will be ripped up.
  • George Carlin: Freddie felt shocked at such an idea.
  • Freddie: We have a friend called Alfie and he's a road vehicle. But he likes the railway. Sometimes he teases us about it, but he'd never want to see it ripped up.
  • George: Heh!
  • George Carlin: Growled the steamroller.
  • George: I know Alfie. He's too small in size to be in any use.
  • George Carlin: Freddie took no notice.
  • Freddie: That steamroller is silly.
  • George Carlin: He thought as he steamed away. At the junction, Freddie told Rheneas all about him.
  • Rheneas: I call him George.
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Rheneas and then he puffed happily away. But that afternoon when the two engines met again, Rheneas was no longer laughing.
  • Rhineas: George's friend had come.
  • George Carlin: He said.
  • Rheneas: He's rude too. He's taking George's passengers home and leaving George free to steal ours.
  • Freddie: But he can't.
  • George Carlin: Objected Freddie.
  • Rheneas: George says he can get them to the big station before us.
  • Freddie: Rubbish!
  • George Carlin: Replied Freddie.
  • Freddie: It's much farther by road.
  • Rheneas: Yeah.
  • George Carlin: Continued Rheneas.
  • Rheneas: But George says he knows a shortcut.
  • George Carlin: That evening, the engines were preparing for the homeward rush.
  • Freddie: Where are the passengers?
  • George Carlin: They wondered.
  • Rheneas: Look!
  • George Carlin: Shrilled Rheneas.
  • Rheneas: Look at George. He's a mean green deceiver.
  • George Carlin:George was wearing a large sign saying: Railway Steamroller.
  • George: Yaa boo snubs.
  • George Carlin: He jeered as he roared away.
  • Freddie: Come on.
  • George Carlin: Puffed Freddie to his coaches.
  • Freddie: Let's see what he's up to.
  • George Carlin: Freddie wanted to get back at George, but he wasn't sure how. Then in the distance, Freddie saw a man waving a red flag. That meant danger. The line here crosses a narrow road and there was George wedged firmly under the bridge.
  • Freddie: So this was his shortcut.
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Freddie.
  • George's Passengers: He tricked us.
  • George Carlin: Shouted George's passengers.
  • George's Passengers: He said he was a railway steamroller, but he wouldn't accept our return tickets. He wanted us to think railways are no good.
  • George Carlin: Freddie's crew examined the bridge.
  • Freddie's Driver: It's risky, but we must help the passengers.
  • Freddie: Passengers are urgent.
  • George Carlin: Agreed Freddie. Freddie slowly and carefully set off across the bridge. George wailed as he felt the bridge quiver.
  • George: (groaning) Stop!
  • George Carlin: He shouted.
  • George: It might fall on me.
  • Freddie: That would serve you right for telling lies.
  • George Carlin: Said Freddie. But the bridge didn't collapse. Freddie made good time and all the passengers caught their trains. The bridge is now mended, but not unfortunately George and his ways. He never learned sense. He's a henhouse and his lies can do no harm. The hens never listened to him anyway.
