Iron Golems are found in the Planar Sphere, the D'Arnise Keep, the Windspear Hills Dungeon and several other locations.
An Iron Golem can cast Gas Cloud as a breath attack, it is immune to the Cloud's Poison damage as well as any other elemental damage.
Shapeshift allows a character to turn himself into an Iron Golem. This will not give the same resistances but will allow the character to do 2-20 damage, more than most weapons in the game. To add insult to injury, a Thief can backstab in Iron Golem form.
[edit] Strategy
- Iron Golems are often found in areas where they can be kept at a distance. They can easily be taken out by +3 missile weapons.
- Alternatively, in such areas use the Periapt of Proof Against Poison to make a character Immune to Poison and attack the Golem with a two handed weapon of +3 enchantment or greater. Gas Cloud won't affect the character and the Golem cannot attack him/her because the two handed weapon's Reach.
- Enchanted Weapon creates a +3 weapon if you lack one.
- Polymorph Self allows a character to turn himself into a Gnoll. The Gnoll has a +1 halberd that counts as +3 to determine what it can hit.
- Sister Garlena outside Watcher's Keep sells Firetooth, a +4 crossbow that can take out Iron Golems in about 14 shots.
