Narrator: "Lady is a tank engine who lives at the big station on the Island of Sodor. She's a cheeky little engine with four small wheels, a short stumpy funnel, a short stumpy boiler, and a short stumpy dome.
She's a fussy little, too. Always bringing coaches about, ready for the big engines to take on long journeys.
And when trains come in, she pulls the empty coaches away so that the big engines can go and rest.
Lady thinks no engine works as hard as she does. She loves playing tricks on them, inculding Emily, the biggest and proudest engine of them all. Lady likes whistling rudely at her."
Lady: "Wake up, lazy bones! Why don't you work hard, like me?"
Narrator: "One day, after pulling the big express, Emily arrived back at the siding, vey tired. She was just going to sleep when Lady came up in her cheeky way."
Lady: "Wake up, lazy bones, do some hard work for a change!" You can't catch me!"
Narrator: "And off she ran, laughing.
Instead of going to sleep again, Emily thought how she could get back at Lady.
One Morning, Lady wouldn't wake up. Her driver and fireman couldn't make her start. Her fire was out and there was not enough steam. It was nearly time for the express. People were waiting, but the coaches weren't ready.
At last, Lady started."
Lady: "Oh, dear, oh, dear!"
Narrator: She yawned.
She fussed into the station, where Emily is waiting."
Emily: "Hurry up, you!"
Narrator: "Said Emily."
Lady: "Hurry yourself!"
Narrator: "Replied Lady.
Emily began making her plan."
Narrator: "Said Emily,"
Emily: "I will."
Narrator: "And almost before the coaches stopped moving, Emily reversed quickly and was coupled on."
Emily: "Get in quickly, please."
Narrator: "She whistled.
Lady usually pushed behind the big trains to help them start, but she was always uncoupled first. This time, Emily started so quickly, they forgot to uncouple Lady. Emily's chance had come."
Emily: "Come on, come on,"
Narrator: "Puffed Emily to the coaches.
The train went faster and faster. Too fast for Lady. She wanted to stop, but she couldn't!"
Lady: "Peep, peep! Stop, stop!"
Emily: "Hurry, hurry, hurry!"
Narrator: "Laughed Emily."
Coaches: "You can't get away, you can't get away!"
Narrator: "Laughed the coaches.
Poor Lady was going faster then she had ever gone before, She was out of breath, and her wheels hurt her, but she had to go on."
Lady: "I shall never be the same again."
Narrator: "She thought sadly."
Lady: "My wheels will be quite worn out."
Narrator: "At last, they stopped at a station.
Lady was uncoupled, and she felt very silly and exhausted.
Next, she went on to a turntable, thinking of everyone laughing at her.
And then she ran onto a siding, out of the way."
Emily: "Well, little Lady,"
Narrator: Chuckled Emily."
Emily: "Now you know what hard work means, don't you?"
Narrator: "Poor Lady couldn't anwser. She had no breath. She just puffed slowly away to rest, and had a long, long drink.
She went home very slowly, and was careful afterwards never to be cheeky to Emily again."
