Le Bas

Le Bas is the schoolmaster at the time that Nick Jenkins is at prep school. He is obsessed with poetry and with proper behavior. Charles Stringham calls the police and claims that Le Bas is a wanted criminal in the Braddock alias Thorne incident (in A Question of Upbringing).

At the reunion party held for him at the end of The Acceptance World, Le Bas suffers a stroke during a long-winded speech given by former student Kenneth Widmerpool, for whom Le Bas never particularly cared.
