Leatherworking requires 3 things.

  • Needle
  • Leather
  • Thread


There are 3 types of needles.

  • Ordinary needle
  • Durability needle
  • Mana efficiency needle

Ordinary Needle

An ordinary needle provides a balance of durability and mana efficiency. It is great for the beginning or general leatherworkers.

Durability Needle

A durability needle allows the use of tougher thread, meaning more durability and mana sap on a piece of armor. It is great for a leatherworker tailoring to an offensive leather-wearing class.

Mana Efficiency Needle

A mana efficiency needle allows the use of a lighter thread, meaning less mana sap and durability on a piece of armor. It is great for a leatherworker tailoring to a caster leather-wearing class.


Leather comes in 3 variations.

  • Ordinary
  • Dark
  • Light


Ordinary leather allows for a balance between materials and durability. It is great for beginning or general leatherworkers.


Dark leather is much tougher, and so gives more durability but takes more to craft with. It is great for leatherworkers tailoring to offensive leather-wearing classes.


Light leather is very flexible, and so takes less to craft with, but loses durability. It is great for leatherworkers aiming for mass production of an item.


There are 3 kinds of thread. You can buy each at a trade goods store.

  • Ordinary
  • Thick
  • Light


Ordinary thread can be used by any needle and provides a balance between durability and mana efficiency.


Thick thread takes a durability needle, and provides a higher durability.


Light thread takes a mana efficiency needle, and reduces a piece of armor's mana sap.


Leatherworking can be used to provide leather armor for yourself or friends.


Quality is a variable that can affect multiple parts of a piece of equipment.

Variant Causes

Quality varies on 4 things.

  • Chance
  • Professing
  • Quality of ingredients


Quality can change at a random chance. There is a 1/50 chance of reducing the quality by one, and a 1/100 chance of increasing the quality by one.


If you have selected leatherworking as one of your professions, it increases the maximum quality from 40 to 50, and it increases the quality increase chance from 1/100 to 1/50.

Quality of Ingredients

The quality of the ingredients used in making the item is the basis for quality. The average quality used in the original construction is the original quality of the item.

Quality Effects

Quality can affect multiple things.

  • Armor rating
  • Value
  • Skill gained

Armor Rating

An increase in quality can increase the armor rating on a 1:2 basis. That is, 1 armor per 2 quality. The armor added then gets attached to the base armor of the item.


Quality can affect vendor- and player-price value, since certain quality levels allow better enhancements to be bestowed through enchanting.

Skill Gained

Quality affects the skill exp gained from creating the item, also. The skill exp. increase is on a 1:5 ratio. That is, 1 experience point per 5 quality.


Leatherworking is beneficial in that it can create cheap leather armor.


Leatherworking's cons include the fact that it can only create armor and a couple trinkets.

Benefits of Professing

Professing in this skill means a wider range of leather to be used.

Criteria for Suggesting a Crafting System

In order for your idea on how to work leather in Akami to be considered, it must at LEAST meet this criteria.

  • It must involve the accurate placement of the needle or thread.
  • It must involve following a pattern of some sort.
  • It must involve the changes according to the leather in use.

Other ways to improve your chances of getting your idea accepted include:

  • A 360-degree view of the finished project at the end.
  • A playable prototype.
  • A small side window showing the pattern.
