The Leopard (Panthera pardus) is the smallest of the four big cats. It was previously thought that the leopard was a mix of lion and panther, but panthers have longer tails than leopards, and this was picked up later by naturalists. This species of cat shares the same phylum as the Homo sapiens (the human), but breaks off into the family Felidae later on.
There are three cats called leopards, but they belong to other species:
- Clouded Leopard
- Bornean Clouded Leopard
- Snow Leopard
