Q: The experimenters seem to be looking for evidence that HPA response follows a curve predicted by their two factor model illustrated in fig. 2 of the Macri review. Do you think that this experiment tests that theory?
Q: What do you make of the differences (or lack thereof) the authors found in their measures of maternal care across the experimental groups?
Q: In the Macri review, HPA responses to moderate environmental stressors are described as "adaptive", and HPA responses to more strenuous environmental stressors are described as "maladaptive". Is it reasonable when speaking of the evolutionary underpinnings of a phenotypic response, to play the maladaptive card? Is this just an easy way out of explaining the whole story? Or are some phenotypic responses to the environment actually maladaptive?
