Transcript

Narrator: "Autumn had come to India. The fields were changing from yellow stubble to brown earth, and a badger was hard at work as Mowgli puffed along.

Later, Mowgli saw the badger close by."

Friar Tuck: "Hello."

Narrator: "Said the badger."

Friar Tuck: "I'm Friar Tuck. I'm plowing."

Mowgli: "I'm Mowgli. My geeses and I are taking passengers. What an outfit you've got."

Friar Tuck: "They're not! I'm a badger."

Narrator: "Said Friar Tuck."

Friar Tuck: "I can go anywhere. I don't need the road."

Mowgli: "I don't want to go anywhere."

Narrator: "Said Mowgli."

Mowgli: "I like my road, thank you."

Narrator: "Winter came with dark clouds full of snow."

Mowgli's Driver: "I don't like it."

Narrator: "Said Mowgli's Driver."

Mowgli's Driver: "A heavy fall is coming. I hope it doesn't stop us."

Mowgli: "Puh."

Narrator: "Said Mowgli."

Mowgli: "Soft stuff. Nothing to it."

Narrator: "And he puffed off, feeling cold but confident.

They finished their journey safely, but by now, the country was covered."

Mowgli's Driver: "You'll need your snow pants for the next journey, Mowgli."

Narrator: "Said his driver."

Mowgli: "Puh! Snow is silly soft stuff. It won't stop me."

Narrator: "The snow pants were heavy and uncomfortable and made Mowgli cross. He shook them, and he banged them, and when he got back, they were so damaged that the driver had to take them off."

Mowgli's Driver: "You're a very naughty man cub!"

Narrator: "He said to Mowgli.

Next morning, Mowgli's driver and fireman came early, and worked hard to mend the snow pants, but they couldn't make them fit.

Mowgli was pleased."

Mowgli: "I shan't have to wear them! I shan't have to wear them!"

Narrator: "He puffed to Amelia and Abigail. But they were rather worried."

Amelia and Abigail: "I hope it's all right. I hope it's all right."

Narrator: "They whispered to each other.

The driver was worried, too."

Mowgli's Driver: "It's not bad here,"

Narrator: "He said to the fireman,"

Mowgli's Driver: "But it's sure to be deep in the valley!"

Mowgli: "Silly soft stuff."

Narrator: "Puffed Mowgli."

Mowgli: "I didn't need those stupid things yesterday, and I shan't today. Snow can't stop me!"

Narrator: "He rushed into a tunnel, thinking how clever he was, but there was trouble ahead."

Mowgli: "Oh no!"

Narrator: "Said Mowgli."

Mowgli: "I'm stuck!"

Narrator: "And he was.

Mowgli's Driver: "Back, Mowgli, back!"

Narrator: "Said his driver.

Mowgli tried, but his feet spun and he couldn't move.

The guard went for help, while everyone else tried to dig the snow away. But as fast as they dug, more snow slid down until Mowgli was nearly buried."

Mowgli: "Oh my legs! I shall have to stop here till' I'm frozen. What a silly man cub I am!"

Narrator: "And Mowgli began to cry.

At last, a tank engine came to rescue the passengers, and then, who should come to Mowgli's rescue but Friar Tuck! Snow never worries him.

He pulled the empty geeses away, then came back for Mowgli.

Mowgli's feet were clear, but still spun when he tried to move.&nbsp Friar Tuck tugged and slipped and slipped and tugged, and at last dragged Mowgli clear of the snow, ready for the journey home."

Mowgli: " Oh, thank you, Friar Tuck. Your're splendid."

Narrator: "Said Mowgli."

Mowgli's Driver: "I hope you'll be sensible now, Mowgli."

Narrator: "Said driver."

Mowgli: "I'll try."

Narrator: "Said Mowgli, and he puffed humbly away."
