• Gonzo as Grover
  • Mary Louise (little girl) as A Little Girl

Mary Louise: "This looks like a good place to put this letter Y. It's a letter that comes after X and just before Z. I bet Gonzo doesn't know what this letter is!"

Gonzo: "Skedaddle... skedaddle... skaddle-UP! I bet you think Gonzo does not know what this letter is."

Mary Louise: "Well, Gonzo, do you?"

Gonzo: "No."

Mary Louise: "I didn't think so."

Gonzo: "It's very pretty! It starts out with one line at the bottom and splits into two lines at the top."

Mary Louise: "That's what it looks like. But what is this letter called?"

Gonzo: "I do not know. Tell me."

Mary Louise: "Y." (sounds like "Why?")

Gonzo: "Because I want to know."

Mary Louise: "Y."

Gonzo: "So I can be smart. Please tell me."

Mary Louise: "I already did!"

Gonzo: "You did?"

Mary Louise: "Hmm-hmm."

Gonzo: "Would you tell me again?"

Mary Louise: "Y."

Gonzo: "Because I did not hear you before."

Mary Louise: "Y."

Gonzo: "I don't know! Maybe my ears are on backwards! How should I know?!"

Mary Louise: "Gonzo, let me give you a little hint."

Gonzo: "All right."

Mary Louise: "This is the letter that you hear at the beginnings of words like yellow, yarn, year, and yo-yo."

Gonzo: "Hmm... It has a cute little yih-yih sound, but I do not know what it is called."

Mary Louise: "Y."

Gonzo: "Maybe because NO ONE WILL TELL ME!"

Mary Louise: "Y!"

Gonzo: "How should I know?! Maybe no one likes me!"

Mary Louise: "Y!"

Gonzo: (crying) "I don't know why no one likes me! I try to be so nice..."

Mary Louise: "The answer is Y! Y-Y-Y! The letter is called Y, like W, X, Y, Z!"

Gonzo: "...That's the letter Y?"

Mary Louise: "That's what I've been trying to tell you!"

Gonzo: "... I am sooo embarrassed..."
