The truth behind the NGDIMS-T-03N/UL3 Tempest was that it was a test model. Designed to gather data for the next model, one that was effectively an upgrade for the unit after Damien Marius' particular skills were determined. After many battles on Mars and endless hours studying flight data, captured Mobile Suits including the OZ-13MS Gundam Epyon, the designs for the NGDIMS-T-05 Typhon were drawn up, and the Mobile Suit constructed on the Moon with cooperation between the Diana Institute and IsoTech.
The first feature to be noted is that it lacks the NTS-01 Neuroptic Tracer system. Instead, it has been replaced with a pair of binders mounted on the back. These binders, aside from providing additional AMBAC and thruster/vernier setups, are designed for maximum rotation and placement. If one were to look from the side, the binders are capable of 90-degree rotation in a circle on the y-axis, plus 90-degree rotation on the x-axis, as well 45-degree z-axis rotation. This maximizes the placement of the thrusters and verniers, giving the Typhon extreme maneuverability for its frame type, replacing the vectored thrusters on Tempest.
The rest of the suit features a large amount of melee-oriented weaponry. This is due to Damien's natural orientation towards melee combat and past uses of weaponry; as well, the use of Gundanium armour was decided upon for its natural strength over gundarium gamma. Most of Tempest's trademark weaponry - the funnel missiles, the beam zanber - was removed, to be replaced with a different series of weaponry. Instead, a special large beam saber was installed for use that functions much in the same way as a zanber effectively would. A shotlancer, much as the one found on the XM-X2 Crossbone Gundam X-2, was added for quick suit disabling without detonating a reactor. Overall, with the upgrades given to the Tempest to create the Typhon, the Diana Institute hopes to create a powerful Mobile Weapon for the use of their new budding pet project.
