Jess is a CO in the Advance Wars series. She is the tank commander of Green Earth.

Character

Statistics

Jess's vehicles get firepower boosts, but her air force and navy are weaker. In Advance Wars 2, her foot soldiers are also armed with less firepower; this weakness does not apply in Advance Wars Dual Strike, though they still get no boosts there.

Jess's CO Powers grant all of her units supplies, which is more useful for air units (which use up fuel) and sea units (since they have few resupplying points).

Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

  • Day-To-Day:
    • 110% ATK for vehicles
    • 90% ATK for anything else
  • Turbo Charge (3 Stars - normal)
    • Combat stats for vehicles modified to 130% ATK and +1 Movement Power
    • All units are resupplied automatically
  • Overdrive (6 Stars - normal)
    • Combat stats for vehicles modified to 150% ATK and +2 Movement Power
    • All units are resupplied automatically

Advance Wars Dual Strike

  • Day-To-Day:
    • 120% ATK for vehicles

Balance

While Jess isn't considered broken, she is still sometimes overpowered. Her firepower loss for air and sea units mean nothing whenever neither are available, which is why her foot soldiers are weakened in Advance Wars 2. Of course, this weakness itself isn't too detrimental, as Infantry lack any decent firepower and Mechs are still inexpensive and consequently having little problem in being cost-effective. In addition, most battles involve vehicles to some degree.

Jess is definitely overpowered in Advance Wars Dual Strike; her foot soldiers no longer have any penalties, though they don't have any boosts however. The real problem, however, is that her vehicles are also stronger. The extra damage reduces any counterdamage more easily, and if the land battle gets dragged out, then it adds up quickly with plenty of units at Jess's disposal.

Jess's CO Powers are average as expected, providing only a firepower and movement boost as well as supplies. The latter is, though helpful, usually not too influential, since resupplying as needed often isn't too difficult anyway.

It is likely that Jess would get penalized with unarmored land units if land units are placed in the same groupings as they were or would be in Game Boy Wars 3. Jess's stats in land battles would only change on the surface since unarmored units requires the player to be saavy anyway with limited supplies and low defense, but she would no longer be overpowered if the Battle Car is around, since that would get hit hard by the firepower deficiency.
