No Sleep For Cranky

  • Alec Baldwin: Brendam docks is one of the busiest dockyards on all the Island of Sodor. It's where ships and engines and cranes alike are busy day and night, every day of the year. But poor Cranky the Crane never gets a nap. He never gets to sleep early, he works all the time and his only company are the gulls that settle on his arm. So Cranky is always cranky.
  • Salty: Ahoy there, Cranky.
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Salty.
  • Cranky: Where have you been!?
  • Alec Baldwin: Snapped Cranky.
  • Salty: And a good day to you captain.
  • Alec Baldwin: Bill and Ben arrive for work full of mischief.
  • Cranky: Hurry up!
  • Alec Baldwin: Snapped Cranky.
  • Cranky: I haven't got all day.
  • Bill: You're no fun.
  • Alec Baldwin: Grumbled Bill.
  • Cranky: You wouldn't be fun if you were stuck up here.
  • Alec Baldwin: Snapped Cranky.
  • Bill: So that's why you're cranky.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Bill.
  • Ben: You're lonely.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Ben.
  • Cranky: I'm not!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cranky cranked.
  • Salty: So it's company you'd be needing.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Salty.
  • Salty: Reminds me of a lonely old bank's lighthouse keeper.
  • Cranky: Not another one of your stories.
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Cranky.
  • Bill and Ben: Oh please, Salty.
  • Alec Baldwin: They chimed.
  • Bill and Ben: We haven't heard it.
  • Salty: Twas in the middle of the wee naughty storm.
  • Alec Baldwin: Salty began.
  • Salty: The likes of which he sees once in a lifetime.
  • Alec Baldwin: This made Cranky very cranky. So cranky that he swung his arm around and dropped the pipes onto the tracks instead of the trucks.
  • (The pipes crash into a shed)
  • Cranky: Whoops!
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Cranky meekly.
  • Salty: You blown the main down, matey.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Salty. The engines were trapped.
  • Bill and Ben: You're gonna get into trouble.
  • Alec Baldwin: Sang Bill and Ben. Sir Topham Hatt was in his office being measured for his new suit. When he heard the news, he left immediately for the docks. Sir Topham Hatt knew that any delay at the docks could cause trouble.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You had made a terrible mess, Cranky.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said sternly.
  • Cranky: I'm sorry, sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: Cranky whispered.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You engines will have to stay here tonight until Harvey clears up this mess in the morning.
  • Alec Baldwin: Cranky's heart sank as Salty uttered those faithful words.
  • Salty: It reminds me of a story. It was a bitter cold winter. The brave little ship was stuck until the ice melted the next spring. He barely made it round the cape after a hundred scary days at sea without a scratch. He sailed into port and crashed his bout in 50 feet from my buffers. Luckily no one was hurt.
  • Cranky: Except my ears.
  • Alec Baldwin: Wailed Cranky. Salty spent all night telling tales of powerful storms, daring rescues and brave little ships. And when the sun rose, he was still talking and talking and talking.
  • Cranky: I can't take anymore.
  • Alec Baldwin: Groaned Cranky. Harvey the Crane Engine arrived.
  • Harvey: Sir Topham Hatt sent me to help clear away this mess.
  • Alec Baldwin: He puffed proudly. Cranky was so pleased the engines will be going soon, he forgot to be cranky.
  • Cranky: I'll never misbehave again.
  • Alec Baldwin: He promised.
  • Cranky: As long as I don't have to listen to anymore of Salty's stories.
  • Alec Baldwin: And after Harvey and the workmen had cleared the wreckage, Cranky worked hard all day. He carefully loaded the trucks, helped speed the engines on their way and he said please and thank you.
  • Thomas: This is new.
  • Alec Baldwin: Puffed Thomas. But he had spoken too soon. Cranky couldn't help himself.
  • (The pipes fall next to Thomas and Percy)
  • Percy: It was nice while it lasted.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Percy and all the engines laughed. But Cranky was still cranky.

Something In The Air

  • Alec Baldwin: One day, Thomas was at the keyside of a small village. Fish were being loaded into his cars. The work took a long time, the fishermen were using old equipment and Thomas was worried.
  • Thomas: I'm going to be late for Henry at the docks. He won't like this. Please hurry up.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas was rudely interrupted.
  • (The crate containing fish inside falls on top of Thomas)
  • Alec Baldwin: His driver and fireman laughed.
  • Thomas: Phew!
  • Alec Baldwin: Sniffed Thomas.
  • Thomas: What a pong!
  • Alec Baldwin: He was glad when they were speeding along the beautiful coastal run. Then, they saw a man waving a red flag.
  • Thomas: What's the matter now?
  • Man: High tides are damaging the track.
  • Alec Baldwin: Reported the man.
  • Man: I've marked the spot.
  • Thomas' Driver: We'll go and inspect.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said the Driver.
  • (Thomas heads for the damaged track)
  • Thomas' Driver: It would be dangerous for heavy engines like Henry.
  • Alec Baldwin: Agreed the driver.
  • Thomas' Driver: But for Thomas, it's safe enough.
  • Alec Baldwin: The guard left a red oil lamp by the damaged track to warn engines.
  • Guard: When we get to the docks, I'll tell them to close the line.
  • Alec Baldwin: Henry was waiting for Thomas' cars.
  • Henry: Pah! You're late and that smell is making me ill!
  • Thomas: It's the fish!
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied Thomas.
  • Thomas: And there's danger on the rails. That's why we're late.
  • Henry: Pah! You're the only danger on the rails, Thomas. Now stop wasting time and get my cars hitched to my train.
  • Alec Baldwin: Thomas' driver and fireman were in the yard master's office when they heard Henry's whistle. He was steaming out of the station with his long heavy train called The Flying Kipper.
  • Thomas' Driver: What route is Henry taking tonight?
  • Alec Baldwin: Asked the Driver.
  • Yard Master: The coastal run. It's the quickest.
  • Thomas' Driver: But I told you!
  • Alec Baldwin: Gasped the driver.
  • Thomas' Driver: That's dangerous for a big engine like Henry!
  • Alec Baldwin: The yard master quickly phoned the signalman. Henry roared past the signalbox.
  • Henry: I'll soon make up for lost time.
  • Alec Baldwin: The signalman couldn't hear the warning. By the time he did, Henry was far away in a cloud of steam. But when Henry reached the coastal track, his hopes for a fast run were dashed. Fog floated everywhere.
  • Henry: I can't see!
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Henry. Nor could his driver. And when he could, it was too late.
  • (Henry falls down into the deep water)
  • Alec Baldwin: As soon as the tide was high enough, Henry was craned out of the water.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Engines don't swim, Henry. You were meant to deliver fish not swim with them. You should know that by now.
  • Henry: Yes, sir. I'm sorry, sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: When Henry arrived at the docks, Cranky the Crane looked down on him.
  • Cranky: My, my, Henry. I expect you'll have some fishy tales to tell. But take my advice, have a long hosedown first.
  • Alec Baldwin: But there was worse to come.
  • Boy 1: Look! They've caught all this fish and a green whale too.
  • Boy 2: It's not a whale, it's a monster.
  • Alec Baldwin: Henry was most upset. Thomas now felt sorry for Henry.
  • Thomas: Come on. Your driver says it's time for a nice washdown. Then you'll feel much better.
  • Alec Baldwin: And Henry did.
  • Henry: I'm sorry I was rude to you, Thomas.
  • Thomas: That's all right. But can you smell something?
  • Henry: W-W-What?
  • Thomas: Fresh air.
  • Henry: Oh yes.
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied Henry happily.

Diesel Does It Again

  • George Carlin: Duck and Percy enjoyed their work in the harbour, pulling and pushing freight cars full of cargo to and from the key. But one morning, the engines were exhausted. The harbour was busier than ever. Sir Topham Hatt promised that another engine would be found to help them.
  • Percy: Huh. It's about time.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy.
  • Duck: I ached so much I can hardly get my wheels to move.
  • George Carlin: Agreed Duck. They waited for the engine to arrive. It came as a shock when he did.
  • Diesel: Good morning.
  • George Carlin: Squirmed Diesel in his oily voice. The two engines had not work with Diesel for a long time.
  • Duck: What are you doing here?
  • George Carlin: Gasped Duck.
  • Diesel: Your worth Top...er, Sir Topham Hatt sent me. I hope you are please to see me again. I have to shunt some dreadful tiresome cars.
  • Percy: Shunt where?
  • George Carlin: Said Percy suspiciously.
  • Diesel: Where? Why from here to there.
  • George Carlin: Purred Diesel.
  • Diesel: And then again from there to here. Easy, isn't it?
  • George Carlin: With that, Diesel as if to make himself clear bumped some cars hard.
  • Cars: Ooh!
  • George Carlin: Screamed the cars.
  • Diesel: Grrr!
  • George Carlin: Growled Diesel. Percy and Duck were horrified. They did not trust Diesel at all. They refuse to work and did not leave their shed. Sir Topham Hatt was enjoying his tea and iced bun when the telephone rang.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: So there's trouble in the harbour yard? I'll be there right away.
  • George Carlin: Diesel was working loudly and alone. Cargo lay on the key. Ships and passengers were delayed. Everyone was complaining about Sir Topham Hatt's Railway. Percy and Duck were sulking in their shed.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: What's all this?
  • George Carlin: Demanded Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Percy: We're on strike, sir.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy nervously.
  • Duck: Yes.
  • George Carlin: Added Duck.
  • Duck: Beg pardon, sir, but we don't work with Diesel, sir. You said you sent him packing, sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I have to give Diesel a second chance.
  • George Carlin: Replied Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I'm trying to help by bringing Diesel here. Now you must help me he is the only engine available.
  • George Carlin: Percy and Duck went sadly back to work. Next day, things were no better. Diesel's driver did not put on his brakes on properly and Diesel started to move. He went bump straight into Percy.
  • Diesel: Wake up there, Percy.
  • George Carlin: Scowled Diesel.
  • Diesel: You have work to do.
  • George Carlin: He didn't even say he was sorry to Percy. Later, Diesel bumped the cars so hard that the loads went everywhere.
  • Percy: What would Sir Topham Hatt say?
  • George Carlin: Gasped Percy.
  • Duck: He won't like it.
  • George Carlin: Said Duck.
  • Diesel: So who's going to tell you I wonder? Two goody-goody tattletales like you I suppose?
  • George Carlin: Percy and Duck did not wanna be tattletales, so they said nothing. Diesel thinking he can getting away from his bad behavior was ruder than ever. Next day, he was shunting freight cars full of China Clay. He banged the cars hard into the buffers, but the buffers weren't secure. The silly cars were sunked! Sir Topham Hatt heard the news. The cars were hoisted safely from the sea but the clay was lost. Sir Topham Hatt spoke severely to Diesel.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The harbour master has tell me anything. Things weren't much better here before you arrived. I shall not be inviting you back. Now Duck and Percy, I hope you don't mind having handle the work by yourselves again.
  • Percy: Oh no, Sir.
  • Duck: Yes please, Sir.
  • George Carlin: Replied the engines. Whistling cheerfully, they puff back to work while Diesel sulk slowly away.

Fish

  • George Carlin: On starry night when the moon is full and the air still, you can hear the sounds of faraway ships and distant laughter. They echoed over the hills and through the valleys, down calm canals and sleepy inlets. Every engine knows that these are the sounds that say the harbour is hard at work at the big station by the sea. One night, a special load of fish was ordered. Sir Topham Hatt decided that extra vans must be added to the train that the men called The Flying Kipper. The only vans available were old ones. They had not been used for a long time. Henry waited impatiently by the keyside as Duck shunted them into position. Thomas puffed by with the mail train.
  • Thomas: Hello, Duck. Going fishing? I'd take care if I were you.
  • Duck: Why?
  • George Carlin: Huffed Duck.
  • Thomas: Well for one thing...
  • George Carlin: Puffed Thomas remembering his own experience.
  • Thomas: ...if fish get into an engine's boiler they always cause trouble. And for another, fish can be awfully smelly. And I know what I'm talking about. Good night.
  • George Carlin: Henry grunted dreadfully.
  • Henry's Driver: You'll just have to put up with it, Henry.
  • George Carlin: Said his driver.
  • Henry's Driver: At least the extra load will mean you can have another engine help us up Gordon's Hill.
  • (Henry puffs away)
  • George Carlin: Meanwhile, Duck was waiting at Edward's station so that he could help the heavy train by pushing from behind. Henry made good progress. When he reached the platform his driver stopped the train beyond the platform. Then Henry gave a special signal.
  • Henry: Peep, peep, peep, peep! I need help please?
  • Duck: Peep, peep!
  • George Carlin: Replied Duck.
  • Duck: I won't be long.
  • George Carlin: Duck buffered gently up to Henry's train. He was not coupled on. Henry would then be able to run on without stopping when they reached the top of the hill.
  • Duck: Ready!
  • George Carlin: Whistled Duck and off they went. Soon they reached Gordon's Hill.
  • Henry: Push hard, push hard.
  • George Carlin: Puffed Henry.
  • Duck: We're doing it, we're doing it.
  • George Carlin: Replied Duck. Henry was pulling his train harder than he realized.
  • (The lamp from the fourth van comes off all of a sudden)
  • George Carlin: Duck felt the weight on his buffers slacking. Then Duck noticed something else.
  • Duck: There's no sign of a tail lamp.
  • George Carlin: He thought. He whistled, but there was no reply. Meanwhile Henry had noticed something too.
  • Henry: My train's getting heavier.
  • George Carlin: He thought to himself.
  • Henry: I'm slowing down.
  • George Carlin: Then there was trouble.
  • (Duck smashes into the vans, causing Henry to come to a stop)
  • George Carlin: No one was hurt. But a strong smell of fish hung in the air. Next day, workmen found a broken tail lamp at the bottom of the hill. Sir Topham Hatt spoke kindly to Duck.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: The accident wasn't your fault. We should've checked that this tail lamp was fixed on properly. We'll soon have you in working order again.
  • Duck: Thank you, sir.
  • George Carlin: Said Duck sadly.
  • Duck: Thomas told me to be careful with fish. They got me in a right pickle, didn't they?

Percy Takes The Plunge

  • George Carlin: One day, Henry wanted a rest, but Percy was talking to some engines. He was telling them about the time he had brave bad weather to help Thomas.
  • Percy: It was raining hard. Water swirled under my boiler. I couldn't see where I was going, but I struggled on.
  • Bill: Oh, Percy, you are brave.
  • Percy: Well, it wasn't anything really. Water's nothing to an engine with determination.
  • Ben: Tell us more, Percy.
  • Henry: What are you engines doing here?
  • George Carlin: Hissed Henry.
  • Henry: This shed is for Sir Topham Hatt's engines. Go away. Silly things.
  • George Carlin: Henry snorted.
  • Percy: They're not silly.
  • George Carlin: Percy had been enjoying himself.
  • Henry: They are silly and so are you. Water's nothing to an engine with determination. Huh.
  • Percy: Anyway.
  • George Carlin: Said cheeky Percy.
  • Percy: I'm not afraid of water, I like it.
  • George Carlin: He ran off to the harbour singing.
  • Percy: Once an engine attached to a train, was afraid of a few drops of rain.
  • Henry: No one ever lets me forget the time I wouldn't come out of the tunnel in case the rain spoiled my paint.
  • George Carlin: Huffed Henry. Thomas was looking at the board on the key.
  • Thomas: Danger. We mustn't go passed it.
  • George Carlin: He said.
  • Thomas: That's orders.
  • Percy: Why?
  • Thomas: Danger means falling down something.
  • George Carlin: Said Thomas.
  • Thomas: I went pass danger once, and fell down a mine.
  • Percy: I can't see a mine.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy. He didn't know that the foundations of the key had sunk. The rails now sloped down into the sea.
  • Percy: Stupid board.
  • George Carlin: Said Percy. He made a plan. One day, he whispered to the cars.
  • Percy: Will you give me a bump when we get to the key?
  • George Carlin: The cars had never asked to bump an engine before. They giggled and chattered about it.
  • Percy: Driver doesn't know my plan.
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Percy.
  • Cars: On, on, on!
  • George Carlin: Laughed the cars. Percy thought they were helping.
  • Percy: I'll pretend to stop at the station, but the cars will push me pass the board. Then I'll make them stop. I can do that wherever I like.
  • George Carlin: Every wise engine knows that you cannot trust freight cars.
  • Cars: Go on, go on!
  • George Carlin: They yelled, and bumped Percy's driver and fireman off the footplate.
  • Percy: Ow!
  • George Carlin: Said Percy, sliding pass the board. Percy was frantic.
  • Percy: That's enough!
  • (Percy falls into the water)
  • George Carlin: Percy was sunked.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: You are a very disobedient engine.
  • George Carlin: Percy knew that voice.
  • Percy: Please, sir, get me out, sir, I'm truly sorry, sir.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: No, Percy, we cannot do that till high tide. I hope it will teach you to take care of yourself.
  • Percy: Yes, sir.
  • George Carlin: It was dark when they brought floating cranes to rescue Percy. He was too cold and stiff to move by himself.
  • (Percy is lifted onto a flatbed)
  • George Carlin: Next day, he was sent to the works on Henry's freight train.
  • Henry: Well, well, well!
  • George Carlin: Chuckled Henry.
  • Henry: Did you like the water?
  • Percy: No.
  • Henry: I am surprised. You need more determination, Percy. Water's nothing to an engine with determination you know. Perhaps you will like it better next time.
  • George Carlin: Percy is quite determined that they'll won't be a next time.

The World's Strongest Engine

  • Alec Baldwin: The engines on the Island of Sodor liked feeling responsible, reliable and really useful. They worked hard to compete their jobs on time. They don't like confusion and delay. But the troublesome trucks delighted mischief and their mischief causes trouble as poor Henry found out.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Henry has had an accident and been sent for repairs.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Sir Topham Hatt.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: There are no other engines available. So Diesel will help until Henry returns.
  • Engines: Yes sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: Huffed the engines, but they weren't happy. The engines didn't like Diesel he was always being rude and always showing off.
  • Percy: I hope Henry's mended soon.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Percy.
  • Thomas: He moves more trucks than three Diesels put together.
  • Alec Baldwin: Agreed Thomas.
  • Gordon: Trucks are no one's friends.
  • Alec Baldwin: Huffed Gordon. The next day, Diesel was working at the docks.
  • Diesel: When Sir Topham Hatt sees how good I am.
  • Alec Baldwin: He bragged to the trucks.
  • Diesel: He'll get rid of steam engines once and for all.
  • Alec Baldwin: This gave the troublesome trucks an idea. As Diesel was shunting them together, they started to sing.
  • Troublesome Trucks: (singing) Is that all you can haul, Henry loads are longer, is that all you can haul, Henry must be stronger.
  • Alec Baldwin: Diesel was cross. He was sure to be stronger than Henry.
  • Diesel: I'll push you all at the same time.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said. The trucks giggled.
  • Troublesome Trucks: (singing) Push us all, that's the longest, push us all, you'll be the strongest.
  • Diesel: That's me.
  • Alec Baldwin: Said Diesel.
  • Diesel: The world's strongest engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: And Diesel shunted five trucks together, then ten, then fifteen. Soon he had an enormous line of twenty trucks.
  • Percy: What's Diesel doing?
  • Alec Baldwin: Cried Percy.
  • Thomas: He thinks he's the world's strongest engine.
  • Alec Baldwin: Replied Thomas. Diesel didn't know the shunters have the brakes on the trucks. The troublesome trucks knew, but encouraged Diesel to push anyway.
  • Troublesome Trucks: Push, push, push!
  • Alec Baldwin: Diesel pushed and he pushed and he pushed, but the trucks didn't move. So Diesel decided to pull the trucks instead.
  • Troublesome Trucks: (singing) Heave ho, heave ho, you can pull but we wont go.
  • Alec Baldwin: Sang the trucks. This made Diesel very cross. He pulled and he pulled and he pulled.
  • Diesel: Help!
  • (Diesel falls into a barge)
  • Diesel: Grease and oil!
  • Alec Baldwin: Diesel sulked as the trucks laughed and laughed. Sir Topham Hatt looked down crossly at Diesel.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: I thought you would be a proper dockyard diesel, but I was wrong.
  • Alec Baldwin: He said.
  • Sir Topham Hatt: Can you make up for lost time, Henry?
  • Henry: Oh yes, sir.
  • Alec Baldwin: Henry replied happily. He backed up to the trucks and the shunters released the brakes. Then Henry pulled away as easy as pie.
  • (Henry pulls the lined cars away)
  • Alec Baldwin: And the engines cheered. Diesel was sent home in disgrace, but the engines had learned a lesson.
  • Thomas: Even troublesome trucks can do you a favor sometime.
  • Alec Baldwin: Chuffed Thomas.
  • Percy: Like getting rid of a smelly old Diesel.
  • Alec Baldwin: Puffed Percy.

Down By The Docks

  • Children: (singing) Down by the docks, that's the place to be, Down by the docks, gateway to the sea, Down by the dockside, we are the team, Working together, just like family. Down by the docks, you're never on your own, Down by the docks, it's really home from home, Down by the dockside, down by the dockside. Down by the dockside, is where we want to be. Salty! Chief Diesel at the docks, He's the tough guy. He's the one who sorts the trucks. He's the one to see, in emergencies... He's the one to see. Tirelessly working, never complaining, Part of the dockside team... Cranky! Looking down on everyone, Always working. Lifting cargo by the ton. And he's up so high, he can reach the sky... Part of the dockside team. Whatever the weather, you'll see him out there, Part of the dockside team... Down by the docks, that's the place to be, Down by the docks, gateway to the sea, Down by the dockside, we are the team, Working together, just like family. Down by the docks, you're never on your own, Down by the docks, it's really home from home, Down by the dockside, down by the dockside. Down by the dockside, is where we want to be. Sailors! Who have crossed the seven seas, Sailing homeward. Bringing all and sundry. And the trade winds blow their ships back home... Safely to the shore. We are the workers, stoking the boilers Of Sodor's industry... Down by the dockside, down by the dockside Down by the dockside, is where we want to be.
