The tunnel system at Northeastern University connects most of the core and older buildings of the university south of Huntington and east of Forsyth.

The main purpose of the tunnels is to interconnect the major administrative and traditional academic buildings for use in inclement weather. Since their construction, there has been an increase in academic space development west of Forsyth; however, the tunnel system cannot be extended underneath Forsyth due to a number of unconfirmed factors (according to Wikipedia, it is due to city regulations on construction underground city streets; traditional lore blames it on the subterranean path of the Muddy River being in the way).
