Onslow County is part of the North Carolina 3rd United States Congressional District. It's also home to [[North Carolina House districts 4, 14 and 15 and North Carolina Senate 6th District.

Onslow County has a Board of Commissioners. The current members of the County Commission are Chairman Delma G. Collins, Vice-Chairman Martin Aragona, Jr., Commissioners Lionell Midgett, Paul Buchanan and Joseph McLaughlin.
The County Manager is Frank Clifton and County Clerk is Beth Purcell.
