Physics Project
From Scratchpad
Welcome to the Physics Project mini wiki at The Wikia Scratchpad!
You can use the box below to create new pages on this wiki. Make sure you type [[Category:Physics Project]] on the page before you save it to make it part of the Physics Project wiki (preload can be enabled to automate this task, by click this link and save that page. After enabled, you should purge this page, if you still see this message).
Hello all! Welcome to the Physics Class Project page. The reason I made a wiki for the class project is to allow you to edit it. This way everyone in each group can update and be updated and the whole class can learn from each other. At the same time you're learning more about creating a wiki which can be really fun and useful. Besides being a page for the class project, I also encourage you to update the wiki with interesting material about physics that you find and include it in the "Cool Physics Materials". You may find something useful for your classmates or just something really amazing. Working together, we can create a rich site with lots of interesting information about physics!

[edit] Project Details
In groups of 4, you will create your own miniwiki about your favorite physicist. It should include the following:
- An "interesting" story about the scientist's life that spans from childhood to adulthood, includes failures and successes, includes triumphs and tragedies, includes important people in his life, includes important contributions to physics. Don't let this be a boring story! Every person's life is interesting. You would be surprised what you find out about the lives of some physicists like Marie Curie's husband, Pierre Curie, died from a gruesome accident with a horse and carriage. You want to capture the attention of your audience. The emphasis of this part of the project is for us to see the humanity in physicists. We talk about laws, equations, and many other things that are named after scientists, but it is also important to know about the person. You'll be able to see how the physics fits into the biography of the scientist.I suggest you begin by using the textbook, Physics, the Human Adventure: From Copernicus to Einstein and Beyond by Holton and Brush and what you gained from class as sources. List all the sources you used.
- A detailed description of an experiment performed (observational, testing, or application experiments) and how they contributed to the development of ideas in Physics. Use the references use use for labs about the scientific cycle. Make sure to include the important elements of each experiment. For example for a testing experiment, make sure to include the assumptions made, the hypothesis, an outline of the procedure, the prediction, the outcome, and the conclusion. Use the rubric below to guide you. Its important for us to understand the scientific process involved in experimentation and to understand how ideas are developed, tested, and can replaced or modified in light to of new information and improved investigative techniques.
- List of Resources. At the end of the (Note to Self:Decide how much time students will spend on project) we will hold an event for your friends and family called "Our Physicist Classmates". (Note to Self: Provide resources for the students i.e. Physics, the Human Adventure: From Copernicus to Einstein and Beyond (Paperback) by Gerald Holton and Stephen G. Brush, Great Experiments in Physics: Firsthand Accounts from Galileo to Einstein (Paperback) edited by Morris H. Shamos)

Use this rubric for Part 1: Interesting Life
Use this rubric for Part 2: Development of Ideas
[edit] Announcements
Please check this site weekly for new announcements. I will post weekly deadlines and also comment on the current material posted.
- TASK1: Due date:
- Create a wikia scratchpad account by clicking on the green link on the left and following directions.
- Choose your favorite physicist from the following list (Note to Self: Make a long list of physicists who's .)
- After you have chosen, mini-wiki page and title it the physicists' name and include a link in this main page under the heading Presentation Topics.
