Pixar was originally the computer graphics division of Lucasfilms, Ltd. Stephen Jobs bought it for $10 million in 1986 and renamed Pixar. They produced their first animation, Luxo Jr., the same year and presented it at SIGGRAPH. Pixar continues to make award winning shorts to this day. In 1999, they did their first commercial, "Wake Up", for Tropicana. They also launched the Renderman program.

Pixar began to make movies. They made their first movie, Toy Story, in 1996. The film did well enough that Disney and Pixar entered an agreement: Pixar would make five more movies and Disney would distribute them. The movies did well enough that Disney bought Pixar in 2006.
