Narrator: Once upon a time, there was an island called Sodor. It is sometimes known as the North Western Railway, or the North Western Region of British Railways.

{Cut to Tidmouth Station. A stout man in a black coat, a yellow vest, a black tie, gray trousers, and a black top hat.}

Narrator: And running this railway was a little fat man who-

Sir Topham Hatt: Hey you! I will have you know I am not fat! I am just big boned.

Narrator: Sorry. Ahem! His name was Sir Topham Hatt. And he had a fantastic dream.

Sir Topham Hatt: Ah, yes! To get as far away from my mother as possible. Man I hate that woman.

Narrator: Hey!!! Who said you could narrate this prologue?

Sir Topham Hatt: Um, me.

Narrator: Too bad! My story! Anyway, his dream was to run the region.

Sir Topham Hatt: Actually it’s just to impress my friends.

Narrator: Anyway, he started his dream by buying the North Western Railway. And he also had two engines from his father.

Sir Topham Hatt: Wait a minute! I'm rich? Oh, yeah! I see my engines coming.

{Two blue engines with red and yellow lining puff to the station platforms. One is a LB&SCR Class E2 0-6-0 tank engine with the letters 'N W R' and number '1' on his bunker, and the other is a Furness Railway Class K2 4-4-0 tender engine with the number '2' on his cab and a Fowler tender with the letters 'N W R' on it.}

Stuart: Hello. I'm Stuart.

Fletcher: And I am Fletcher.

Sir Topham Hatt: I'm sure those names fit you nicely. How about I call you Thomas and Edward?

Stuart: Thomas does have a good ring to it.

Fletcher: As does Edward.

Sir Topham Hatt: Great. Now go to work.

Thomas and Edward: Yes sir. {They puff away.}

Sir Topham Hatt: That's not all. I bought three tank engines from the Western region as well.

{Three tank engines - all green; one GWR Avonside Class 1340 0-4-0 saddle tank with thin red and yellow lining, a small brass dome, the letters 'N W R' on his saddletank and the number '6' on his bunker, one GWR 57xx 0-6-0 pannier tank with yellow lining, black wheels, yellow letters "G W R" on each side of his boiler, and the number '8' on each end of his boiler, near his footplate, and one GWR Class 14xx 0-4-2 side tank with yellow lining and the number '11' on each end of his boiler, near his footplate- show up.}

Percy: Hello, I'm Percy.

Oliver: Name's Oliver.

Duck: And I'm Montague, but I'm usually called Duck. They say I waddle. I don't really, but I like Duck better than Montague.

Sir Topham Hatt: Great. I need one engine with that attitude. I've also got three engines from the Midland region. Here they come.

{Three tender engines - a bright red L&YR Aspinall Class 27/Hughes Class 28 2-6-0 hybrid with black wheels, blue and yellow lining, a brass dome, the number '5' on his cab side and a Fowler tender with the letters 'N W R' on it and two blue Caledonain Railway 812 0-6-0s with red and yellow lining, the numbers '9' and '10' on their cab sides and letters 'N W R' on their tender sides- show up in front of the tank engines.}

James: Name's Hughes. James Hughes.

Donald: I'm Donald...

Douglas: ...and I'm Douglas.

Donald and Douglas: And we're Scottish twins! Sir Topham Hatt: Also, here come three engines from the North Eastern region.

{Three engines - a blue LNER Gresley Class A1/A3 4-6-2 tender engine with red and yellow lining, the number '4' on his cab side, a two-cylinder design, a smooth running plate curved as on an LNER Class O2, Stanier underframes, "Black-5" wheels and cylinders, squared-off side windows, rectangular buffers and a Fowler-style tender with the letters 'N W R' on it, a chocolate brown LNER Class J70 0-6-0 tram with oliver frames, the number '7' on his side, gray sideplates and blue sideplates with the letters 'N W R' on it, and a emerald green GNR Stirling Single 4-2-2 tender engine with gold lining, chocolate running-boards, the number '12' on her cab side and the letters 'G N R' on it- show up next to the other six engines.}

Gordon: Hello, everybody. I'm Gordon.

Toby: My name's Toby.

Emily: And I'm Emily. It's nice to be here!

Sir Topham Hatt: But that's not all! I've also one last engine to introduce you all to - he was built by the old London and North Western Railway in 1920. Here he comes now.

{A green LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 tender engine with red and yellow lining, the number '3' on his cab side and a Fowler tender with the letters 'N W R' on it arrives next to Gordon.}

Sir Topham Hatt: This is Henry.

Henry: Hi, everyone. It is nice to be here.

{Thomas and Edward arrive}

Sir Topham Hatt: Now, that was fast, you two.

Thomas: I dunno.

Narrator: Well now that we are all introduced- {whistle blows} Oh! I have to go now! That's my lunch break! SIr Topham Hatt, you're in charge now, m'kay?

Sir Topham Hatt: Anyways, Thomas, you're running the Ffarqhuar branchline with Percy, Toby, and Emily. And you three have your own coaches. Thomas, meet Annie and Clarabel; Toby, you have Henrietta and Victoria; and Emily shall have Martha and Jennifer.

Thomas, Toby and Emily: Thank you, sir.

{Thomas, Toby and Emily buffer up to their respective coaches.}

Percy: What do I do?

Sir Topham Hatt: You're running goods trains... and the mail.

Percy: {excited} OH, THANK YOU SIR!!!

Sir Topham Hatt: Edward, you're running Wellsworth branch. Duck and Oliver will go on the Little Western.

Edward: Right, sir.

Duck: Okay.

Oliver: We understand perfectly.

Sir Topham Hatt: Gordon, James and Henry, you three run the mainline. Gordon will take the express known as the Wild Nor'Wester.

Gordon: Thank you, sir!

Donald: What do me and Douggie do, sirr?

Sir Topham Hatt: You two will go on Duck's branch line, but you can sometimes help on Edward's line or the main line.

Douglas: Okay then.

{Show a montage of the engines working on their respective lines.}

Sir Topham Hatt: So, wait, that's it? That's the whole episode? Are we finished? Ah, well. Good-bye folks! And watch out for Thomas' Railway Adventures soon!
