Quach

From Scratchpad

Quach is an improv game more commonly known as "Green Screen," in which someone stands with their back to a screen and must guess what is going on behind them, based on clever hints from two reporters asking questions.

[edit] Development

Benji "Hallway" Milanowski had often wanted to do the green screen game from Whose Line is it Anyway? despite not having the requisite technology. He came to the conclusion to use the projector located in nearly all of the modern Purdue buildings. After a test run, Benji came to the conclusion the game would be plausible to play.

Benji wanted a clever name for the game and tried coming up with acronyms and backronyms in order to do so. He wanted to incorporate the words "Green Screen" in the title but failed to come up with anything extraordinairly clever and thus decided to not play the game until he had a great name.

During a meeting, Alex "SOG" Semchuck mentioned how he had just completed a voiceover for a fellow classmate's video, during which he had to say the name of one "Anthony Quach," including the name "A. Quach." With much difficulty due to the uncontrollable laughter of Alex's editing partner Keith Hatten, it took Alex upwards of 6 takes to finally finish the voiceover. After finding this story hilarious, Benji decided to name the green screen game "Quach" despite it not mentioning the words "green screen". The game gets its name from the man named Anthony "HayLo" Quach.

The game is often misspelled "Quatch" as is HayLo misspelled Halo, but SOG assures us that is the spelling is in fact Anthony HayLo Quach.

[edit] Notable Games

The first game of Quach was played with Paul guessing and Spanke and T. Rex giving clues. The video playing behind Paul was a compilation of the fatalities from the video game series, Mortal Kombat.

Tripod was the guesser when Benji played the video Satisfaction behind him. It was notable because of the juxtaposition of Tripod being in front of a screen with a myriad of scantily clad women, the meaning of Tripod's nickname, and the fact that those giving clues eventually broke character to simply enjoy the video.

Satisfaction made another Quach appearance several months later. This time, instead of scantily cald women, the SoF version featured five scantily clad Fools using hand tools. Ryan was the guesser and had no idea where he was reporting from, among other reasons because the laughter in Beering 2280 was so loud that he could not hear the questions being asked of him. See Foolish Satisfaction.
