Narrator: Raccoon is the number 7 animal in the Woodland village. He is usually a fearless critter. This means he's usually not afraid of anything. But Raccoon does have some fears from time to time. In the wintertime, Raccoon had always been afraid of avalanches.
Raccoon: Avalanches have always seem like a scary thing to me. I hope I never get involved in one.
Narrator: One day, Cat arrived late at the Blue Mountain Quarry.
Cat: Sorry I'm late. There were some snowdrifts blocking the line. And I had to wait for them to be cleared.
Matt: Don't worry, Cat. Your trucks have just been filled.
Cat: Thank you, Matt.
Narrator: But Cat was in so much of a hurry that he forgot to wait for the brake van to be coupled to his train.
Matt: Wait, Cat!
Clayton: Cat, your brake van still needs to be coupled.
Narrator: But Cat didn't hear them.
Narrator: Meanwhile, Raccoon was taking some empty trucks to the coal yards. He was making good time when he came to a snowdrift near a ravine.
Raccoon's Driver: You can't charge through it, Raccoon. You'll get stuck. The fireman will go back to the nearest station to get help.
Narrator: The fireman returned with some good and bad news.
Raccoon's Fireman: They sent Rabbut up with some workmen to dig the snowdrift away, but it'll be a while before they can get here. We'll just have to stay here for now.
Raccoon's Driver: Well then, why don't we have a cup of cocoa in the brake van to past the time?
Narrator: Meanwhile, Cat had been having trouble with his changelings since he left the quarry.
Changelings: Hold back, hold back!
Sir Handel: Stop that, you changelings!
Changelings #1: What's the matter, Cat? Don't you like pulling trucks now?
Cat: Be quiet! Oh, I wish I hadn't forgotten my brake van.
Narrator: Then there was trouble.
(The coupling snaps)
Changelings: (Laugh) On, on, on!
Cat: What?! Come back here!
Narrator: Cat's trucks raced down the hill. A workman was nearby, and switched the changelings into a siding. The changelings crashed into the buffers, and plunged into the ravine.
Raccoon: Did you hear that? Oh no! That sounds like a...
Raccoon's Driver: Avalanche!
(The avalanche falls on Raccoon)
Narrator: There was no sign of Raccoon. He was buried in the big snowdrift. Luckily, his brake van wasn't buried. So his driver, fireman and guard set to work digging Raccoon out. Then Rabbit arrived with the workmen, as well as Mr. Owl.
Rabbit: Bust my buffers! What happened here?
Narrator: Everyone worked together to clear the snowdrift away. At last, Raccoon was free.
Raccoon: Thank you, everyone.
Mr. Owl: We'd better take you to the steamworks to be inspected for damage.
Raccoon: Yes, sir.
Narrator: While Raccoon was at the steamworks, he realized something.
Raccoon: I was very brave during that avalanche. Maybe avalanches aren't so scary to me anymore.
Cat: Hello, Raccoon. I'm sorry about my trucks breaking away from me, and causing that avalanche. Although, if I had waited for my brake van to be coupled, it wouldn't have happened.
Raccoon: That's alright, Cat. I am no longer afraid of avalanches. Although, I still hope I'm not involved in one ever again. Avalanches can cause delay and confusion.
