Narrator: Rarity is a lively white unicorn. She's very quick. She also likes to be very busy. Any job is a good job for Rarity. One day, Rarity and Pinkie Pie were at Town Hall. Princess Celestia had some important news.
Princess Celestia: The carnival train is waiting at the docks.
Narrator: Rarity was excited. She hoped Princess Celestia would ask her to pull the carnival special.
Princess Celestia: Pinkie Pie, you must pull the carnival special.
Narrator: Rarity was disappointed.
Princess Celestia: Rarity, you must be Pinkie Pie's back pony.
Narrator: Rarity didn't want to be the back pony. She wanted to pull the carnival special on her own.
Pinkie Pie: I have a lot to do today. After we pull the carnival special, I have to collect the milk from Sugarcube Corner.
Narrator: Rarity puffed sadly along. She wished she could pull a special on her own. Then Rarity had an idea. If she arrived at the docks before Pinkie Pie, she could take the carnival special. Then Pinkie Pie could puff straight to High Farm. That would really help Pinkie Pie. So Rarity raced off as fast as her hooves would pump. Rarity puffed alongside the carnival special.
Rarity: This is a very long train.
Narrator: Rarity couldn't see that Pinkie Pie was already coupled up and waiting for Rarity. Rarity quickly coupled up to the carnival special.
Rarity: Pinkie Pie will be pleased.
Narrator: She thought. Still, Rarity didn't know that Pinkie Pie was on the other end of the train. Then there was trouble. Rarity huffed and puffed. She heaved and hauled. The couplings groaned and strained until one of them snapped.
Rarity: Hooray! I'm pulling the carnival special.
Narrator: But Rarity had left half of it behind with Pinkie Pie. Rarity puffed proudly along. The children were very excited to see Rarity pulling the carnival special. That made Rarity happy. Then there was trouble. Another coupling snapped. Up ahead, Gummy was carrying children to the carnival. Rarity chuffed by. Gummy started to toot his horn.
Rarity: He's shouting at my carnival special.
Narrator: Thought Rarity. But Gummy was shouting because the coconut wagon was rolling towards the level crossing! It smashed against the gate. Coconuts rolled everywhere. The level crossing was blocked. But Rarity didn't know. She puffed happily on. Then another coupling snapped. Rarity passed Noteworthy in a siding. Noteworthy was waiting to puff onto the main line. The points changed. Noteworthy blew his whistle loudly.
Rarity: He's whistling at my carnival special.
Narrator: Thought Rarity proudly.
Noteworthy: Oh, my.
Narrator: But Noteworthy was whistling because the wagon of sugar was now rolling towards him. Noteworthy was covered in pink sugar from head to hoof. But Rarity didn't know. She puffed proudly on. Rarity steamed up Big McIntosh's Hill. Then another coupling snapped. She heard a pony's whistle.
Rarity: They're whistling at my carnival special too.
Narrator: Rarity thought happily. But it was Pinkie Pie with the rest of the carnival cars. Rarity's flatbed was now rolling back towards Pinkie Pie. It smashed into Pinkie Pie. Seats from the big wheel clattered and clanged all over the path. Pinkie Pie was stuck. Rarity chuffed into the building. Nobody waved or whistled. Princess Celestia was cross.
Princess Celestia: I told you to be Pinkie Pie's back pony.
Rarity: But I brought the carnival special all on my own, Princess. I wanted to help Pinkie Pie.
Princess Celestia: You haven't helped anyone. You have caused confusion and delay. You've left half the train. Now there'll be no carnival for the children.
Narrator: Rarity felt terrible. She had wanted everyone to be proud of her, and now they were cross.
Rarity: Please, Princess. I know just what to do. I'm a very quick pony. I can collect all the cars. Then I will be Pinkie Pie's back pony, and we will deliver the carnival special in time.
Narrator: So Rarity whooshed off as fast as her hooves would whir. First Rarity got Bulk Biceps. Then she pulled him as quickly as she could to Pinkie Pie. Pinkie Pie's path was still blocked.
Rarity: I am so sorry, Pinkie Pie. I only wanted to help you. Bulk Biceps will clear the line. I will collect the other cars. Then we can deliver the carnival special together.
Pinkie Pie: Thank you, Rarity.
Narrator: Rarity left Bulk Biceps, and she raced away to collect the first wagon. She picked up the coconut car. Then Rarity collected a new car of sugar, and she raced back to Pinkie Pie. Rarity had been very quick. Bulk Biceps had just loaded the seats back on the flatbed.
Rarity: I'm ready to be your back pony now.
Narrator: And together they set off up Big McIntosh's Hill. Rarity and Pinkie Pie arrived at the station. All the children waved at the two ponies.
Rarity: We have delivered the carnival special in time.
Narrator: That evening, Rarity and Pinkie Pie watched the children at the carnival. The children were having a wonderful time.
Rarity: I hope we can work together on another special.
Pinkie Pie: The sooner, the better.
Rarity: Working with you is the best of all.
Narrator: Rarity couldn't have felt happier.
