[edit] Welcome!
Recipes for Bruin PIE Wiki's goal is not only to collect knowledge from a UCLA student's point-of-view, but also to create a community with the interest of the Bruin academic experience.
[edit] Who this is (will be) for?
Recipes for Bruin PIE Wiki is in early development stages at the moment, currently focusing on UCLA Engineers as its target audience. Please feel free to contribute, and be sure to check back later when more content has been added. As this mini wiki grows, we hope to expand this target audience to the rest of South Campus, and then eventually the rest of UCLA.
[edit] What kind of content?
When contributing, focus your efforts on material specific to the academic experiences of a student; be careful to avoid wasting effort creating general, encyclopedic content, which belongs on Wikipedia, and should simply be linked to and then expanded on here. Imagine the kind of advice and experience you would like to hear from someone who has already gone through what you're about to go through.
[edit] Getting Started
[edit] Contributing your experience to classes you've taken
We strongly encourage you to add your experiences to classes you have taken in the past. Remember, without people contributing their thoughts, tips, and opinions about their classes, none of this can really work. The quality of what you get out of this wiki rests on the quality you want to put into it. A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is, "Add/Edit information you wished you had before going into that class."
[edit] Some Ideas of Sections to Add
- Class requisite and other requirements to take the class
- Summary about the class
- Hints/Tips to doing well in the class
- HW related
- Tests related
- Projects related
- Professors related
- etc...
[edit] Where to Begin
As you may quickly notice, there are plenty of RED links floating around. RED links mean that nothing has been put up for that section yet. It may feel strange at first, but be bold and dive right into those blank articles and fill them right up. If you're not sure how to go about doing this, simply go to a section that's already fairly established and get a feel of how they formatted it and coded it. Go ahead and imitate the style as you see fit. Why reinvent the wheel and redo work someone else has already done for everyone's benefit?
[edit] Reading about class
Feel free to browse through classes. Right now, individual classes are divided by course departments. If you look at the top, you can quickly access these departments. Read them to your hearts content (though at this point, most of them will probably be fairly empty as noted by the REDNESS of the links). If there are things that don't seem right about the article, go right ahead and discuss it by clicking the discuss tab. Or if you want, edit that section yourself! Also, if there's something in particular you want to know or clarify, you can edit the article itself and type in a question on the bottom of the page so that someone quickly notices it and updates the article accordingly. With all this freedom, comes great responsibility. Please be respectful of the space that we're all sharing here.
