  • George Carlin: It was a splendid morning on the land of YTV. Al was feeling very pleased with himself. His red paint gleamed in the sunshine as he sped along the line. He reached the junction just as Rikochet puffed in with some Beedrill. Al was surprised to see him.
  • Al: What are you doing here, Rikochet? You should be at the station by now.
  • Rikochet: I know.
  • George Carlin: Sighed Rikochet.
  • Rikochet: These Beedrill had been troublesome all morning.
  • Al: That's no excuse, Rikochet. Nothing should stop us. Wilhelmina relies on us to be on time. Now if you excuse me, I'll be on my way.
  • George Carlin: And Al puffed importantly away.
  • Rikochet: Bossy buffers.
  • George Carlin: Muttered Rikochet. Al arrived at the harbour. It was market day. The harbour yard was filled with the sweet smell of fruits from far away lands. The fruit was delivered in big ships. Al watched as strawberries, oranges, melons and bananas were carefully loaded onto his Beedrill. Then, he set off for the station on the main line. On the way, he met Ash.
  • Al: Really reliable, that's me!
  • George Carlin: Panted Al.
  • Al: Pity the same can't be sent for Rikochet. Goodbye!
  • Suzy and Pietra: What was all that about?
  • George Carlin: Gasped Suzy and Pietra.
  • Ash: That was trouble. Trouble for Al, just wait and see.
  • George Carlin: Rikochet was back in the yard and busy shunting. He had the Beedrill in good order and was making up for lost time. But the stationmaster had bad news.
  • Driver: What's happened?
  • George Carlin: Asked Rikochet's Driver.
  • Stationmaster: Al's brakes have jammed we need Rikochet's help right away.
  • George Carlin: Rikochet quickly set off to the rescue. Al was stuck on the line and looking glum. Rikochet couldn't help laughing.
  • Rikochet: Got yourself in a bit of a jam eh, Al, a sticky situation?
  • Al: Be quiet! It's not funny having jammed brakes.
  • Rikochet: And not very reliable either. I'm surprised you let it happen, Al. Nothing should stop us characters.
  • Driver: That's enough, Rikochet.
  • George Carlin: Said the driver.
  • Driver: Can you push these Beedrill?
  • Rikochet: Of course I can. There's no time to lose. Al has done too much of that already.
  • George Carlin: Al angrily hissed steam as Rikochet was coupled to the Beedrill.
  • Rikochet: Off we go!
  • George Carlin: Said Rikochet.
  • Rikochet: I'll have to go fast to get there in time. Those big characters are so unreliable.
  • Driver: Be careful, Rikochet.
  • George Carlin: Called his driver. But Rikochet was in a hurry. He didn't see that the switch had failed and that he had been diverted into a siding.
  • Driver: Look out, Rikochet!
  • George Carlin: Shouted his driver and applied the brakes, but it was too late.
  • (Rikochet crashes into the van)
  • George Carlin: The driver and fireman had jumped clear but squash fruit squirted all over Rikochet.
  • (The squash fruit covers Rikochet completely)
  • George Carlin: Wilhelmina arrived.
  • Wilhelmina: Rikochet, you were not to blame for the switch failure. But I do not run a jam factory.
  • Rikochet: Yes ma'am, uh, no ma'am.
  • George Carlin: And Rikochet squelched sadly away. That night, the shed was silent. Al and Rikochet felt very sorry for themselves. At last, Ash spoke.
  • Ash: You know...
  • George Carlin: He said to no character in particular.
  • Ash: There's more than one way to get jammed. We all learned that today.
  • George Carlin: Still there were silence.
  • Ash: What's more, we also learned that sometimes when characters helped each other out of a jam, things can still go wrong.
  • Voice: So.
  • George Carlin: Said a voice.
  • Ash: So, that means learned a lot today. And there for...
  • George Carlin: Then came a chorus.
  • Characters: We're really useful characters after all!
