Same Place The Fly Got Smashed is the 4th album my the Dayton, Ohio indie rock group Guided By Voices. It is often said to be a concept album about alcoholism. This album displays Robert Pollard's maturing songcraft and increasing interest in lo-fi soundscapes. Only 500 copies were pressed.

"I learned the origins of the title The Same Place the Fly Got Smashed....apparently somewhere in Bob's basement was a fly that was smashed against the wall...several weeks later he looked up and there was a dead spider in that spot but no fly...hence the spider was located in the Same Place the Fly Got Smashed."
